I want the one with the most upside. And that's Lawson, hand's down.
When your stated goal for this year is getting one player ready to start it seems like you aren't exactly playing to win. I have 0 problem with Lawson working his way into playing, and I expect to see him at least a couple series vs Furman, but he still needs to learn the offense before we can expect much more than a handful of snaps.. if he's a fast learner great, but the goal still has to be to win this year, and I don't think we should sacrifice a couple of games this year to prepare for next year

While I understand that, would you want one that doesn't give 100% in practice while competing for playing time? And it wasn't just Searels after the second time Lawson just stopped playing in a live scrimmage.
Like I said, love Lawson for his talent but it is not all there yet.

Motley knows the system; starts.
Durkin goes in for tempo changes, goal-line.
Lawson is tied to Loeffler's hip, so to speak, and gets a truncated package to get him reps that is expanded as able.
Brewer gets time to fully heal and starts the ACC championship game.
And, equally important, Shai returns next week, and our backs run it down the throat of our next few opponents while whomever the QB is, practices handing off the ball. A lot.
Lane Stadium is amazing.
I cannot figure out how VT is 3-7 in their last 10 home games with this crowd behind them. Especially since it seems like over the last couple of years, they've been better away from home than they have been at home.

Devil's advocate, even by NFL "down by contact" rules, you aren't down on top of another player. Are you sure you aren't meaning ruled down by loss of forward momentum?
Also Devil's advocate, we've had several touchdowns that would be taken off the board by your recommendation, including Shai's TD vs OSU last year.

They had a package for him vs OSU but didn't put him in, I would imagine we'll see him vs Furman, the only question is how much he'll be in there
I dunno, Ford was already behind Motley. When Lawson signed, he probably saw the writing on the wall.
I just hope we are up enough to let the backups play in the second quarter. I do think we will be able to get teh offense going though. It looked pretty good with Brewer in against OSU, so with a week of practice with Motley, I think we will get back up to speed. I remain optimistic that the season can still be great.
We were in section 13.
During the entrance but also a few other times, it was so loud, I started just hearing white noise.
I did not realize until watching these videos that there were fireworks behind the scoreboard.

Who is giving up?
You need stated objectives, and as far as the QB objectives go, I think the number one objective is to groom Lawson into a starter this year. That doesn't mean you don't play to win, it means that when Scot Loeffler is being a QB coach, he needs to craft everything around developing Lawson. Motley has been in this system four years. He's as developed as he's gonna get. So use Motley as his strengths allow, but put Lawson in learning situations. If Lawson costs a couple games from mistakes, that experience will pay dividends in the future. That's better than dropping a completely green Lawson into a starting role in 2016.
Where did he end up going again?
He is probably kicking himself right now. But he might have just not been as good as the current guys and knew it.

Let Motley start. Have Lawson compete with Durkin all week to decide who gets to run with the 1's in the second quarter and the 2's in the third quarter. Loser of that battle runs with the 2's in the 4th.
Based on everything I've heard about Searels, I don't necessarily think having a player who shrugs off one of his tirades is the worst character trait to have. I'd rather have a QB who will look into the face of a frothing-at-the-mouth OL coach and shrug than one who shrinks like a wilting violet.
If that's the plan, we better go balls to the wall with it and play him a lot, if not start him this week. I know Motley was playing against a great team in aOSU, but he was just not accurate throwing the ball, taking bad sacks, making bad decisions, etc... It should never be an excuse that he was not ready to handle all the snaps because that's what his job was as a backup QB. Is Lawson better at this point than Motley? Or will he be within a couple weeks? If the coaches think the answer to that is yes, then Lawson needs to be take the majority of the snaps this Saturday. If not, I don't know why they would waste a redshirt.
I honestly don't know what the right move is here. But I do agree that whatever direction you want to head, it needs to be within the next week or so with the way the schedule sets up. Interesting breakdown though Austin.
crowd noise is great, an offensive line and running game is more effective at winning games. Keeps the defense off the field, wears down their D. Had been missing that lately.
