This hurts Fosters bid to replace Beamer. However Whit didn't handle it very well either saying that its discontinued when it never even was implemented.

Mike Greenberg just displayed some of the most irresponsible reporting I've ever heard from him. Said Bud, the highest paid coordinator in the country, wants to fine players and that he must have already done it because Whit has stated that they will cease immediately. That entire story is flipped upside down and inside out.

I'm so tired of hearing how the schools are riding the backs of these athletes. Without the school name on the Jersey, college football would have a following similar to arena football, and if you compare those salaries with the cost and benefit of a scholarship, there isn't much if any gap. The passion is for the school not the athlete. Both sides benefit.

Well, ESPN has already picked up on this. Mike and Mike just lambasted Bud, and even opined with Whit's statement that "it has been discontinued" that the fines were already in place and happening. So here we go, sports media speculation has begun. I'm sure we'll have some hot takes on it later this morning in their programming.

I watched the Mic'd up with Loeffler.
There is a lot of complexity there.
I realized while listening to it that I would have problems understanding him as he talked.
There is a lot of information there that's coded and I would have problems decoding fast enough to actually get coached.

Is cost of attendance even implemented yet, and we're already overreacting (the Internet in general) to some speculation from one assistant coach?

One thing we haven't discussed (directly), is I hope Whit hasn't overreacted and he and Bud have a good discussion that doesn't lead to tension in the staff - that the damage control is just for the public and they're trading laughs over coffee right now while they reminisce about that one time Deadspin sensationalized something.

Fine people for breaking rules? Oh no...QUICK! DAMAGE CONTROL! I can't believe he said that! We're going to have to speed up production on those participation trophies!

So when the Hokies win again, it may come down to who has more depth after all.

(life is too short - let's hope for no more injuries on either side, so these young men can experience the opportunities they've earned to perform on such a big stage; and it's hard enough getting through college without having to rehab and limp to classes on crutches)

How can you discontinue something that was never started?

I'm glad Whit had the sense to shut this idea down immediately. It's unfortunate that it was discussed with the media before he was aware of it.

Potentially a pre-season distraction, so it's good that it got eliminated so quickly. Now at least any honest reporting will have to say "They considered it, but it was a non-starter".

Yep, it hurts but OSU isn't going to roll over either. We have Zeke, Samuel, Thomas, and the two best quarterbacks in the country. Oh, and the best offensive line.

Exactly. I wouldn't make the mistake of underestimating Ohio State. Wounded bears are very dangerous.

More and more, the media these days seem to be content with creating clicks rather than reporting news. We see this all the time in politics, where the game is baiting the candidate into saying something that can be taken out of context. Now I know Deadspin isn't real news, but it's a bad trend.

Any time Bud spends on this is time taken away from his REAL job: getting this defense ready to beat Ohio State.

This is definitely a big loss for Ohio State. Make no bones about it. Right now, the receiving corp is looking downright scary....

OUT
Jalin Marshall - suspension
Dontre Wilson - suspension
Corey Smith - suspension
Noah Brown - broken leg
? Torrence Gibson - in a walking boot with sprained ankle

Those 4 would be starting on 90% of the teams in the country, so it's a huge loss of talent and production. It is what it is, so there's no point in sugar coating it. Gibson has ELITE (like future 1st round pick) tools as a receiver and might be able to play, but he's raw and missing camp with a minor ankle sprain obviously derails his ability to be up to speed in week 1..

H-Back (hybrid WR/RB)
Curtis Samuel - kid has the making of a star. All the talk is about Braxton, but Curtis is one of the best offensive threats on the team and is ready to contribute. He had a good frosh season last year and is going to be VERY good.
Braxton Miller - immense talent, but completely unproven and has had some hamstring issues late in camp.

WR
Michael Thomas - kid is as good as anyone in the country. Legit WR talent.
Johnnie Dixon - finally semi-healthy from a leg issue. Was poised to be a contributor last year before going down. He has the looks of a future stud if he can stay healthy.
James Clark - Started as a true frosh and was poised to be a good player for us, but suffered a nasty ankle fracture early in his frosh season and missed the past 2 years. Was crazy fast before the injury. Most felt that he would never bounce back, but he's had a good camp. Not sure what we have in him.
Terry McLaurin - speedster, but hasn't played. Not sure what he brings to the table.
Jeff Greene - transfer from GaTech. Started at GT, but hasn't been a factor at OSU. His only action last year he made a nice catch only to fumble the ball and was never be seen from again.

Then there's a couple frosh receivers, but I don't think any of them have made a real impact thus far. One of the pure WRs is gonna have to step up outside of Thomas. A 4/5-wide set is looking pretty shaky at this point.

At the time, the Redskins had been attempting to run a "flea-flicker" play. The Giants' defense, however, was not fooled, and they tried to blitz Theismann. As Taylor pulled Theismann down, Taylor's knee came down and drove straight into Theismann's lower right leg, fracturing both the tibia and the fibula.

As a Buckeye, I think the vast majority of us feel more comfortable with JT Barrett. The JT you saw in that game is not the same JT by the end of the year.

After that VT loss, over the next 9 1/2 games up to his injury, he racked up 3300 yards and 41 touchdowns while setting Ohio State and Big Ten records and was #2 in the nation in efficiency. He was playing crazy good football.

I don't even think we should take a wipe the slate clean, it's a new season stance...only because I want to keep pointing our fans back to this game last year and telling them, we were supposed to win last year and we saw what they are capable of. Upsets happen for a reason and this is a prime team to worry about if you didn't last year! I fully expect a good game.

I hate to hear this. As someone mentioned above, it is pretty tough to put all the hard work in during the off season to get better, and then get hurt RIGHT before you get a chance to have that work pay off. Been there.
