If you want to get excited about Trey, go back and watch his high-school highlight tape. The dude is a natural runner, and he has the racehorse head-bob when he builds up steam (like a poor man's Adrian Peterson - which is a compliment). My only knock on Trey is that he has heavy feet, and he is not very smooth in his cuts and he can be herky-jerky at times.

I think Shai will end up playing a bigger role by week 3-4, but I hope that Trey gets the workload over JC against OSU particularly with the needs to control time of possession, grind-out first downs, and DEBO fools.

I'm guessing blanking Wisky 59-0 in the B1G championship game carried a good bit of weight in the committee's eyes. It's not like they eked out a win there. I don't think they would have been left out even if Baylor had beaten TCU again in a Big 12 championship game unless it was equally as dominating.

So I guess I agree with your point (worst looking champ left out).

It is definitely a gamble. If he escapes and gets a full head of steam he is going to truck a couple defensive backs. That being said, I would still blitz the heck out of him. Mentally, he just doesn't have the same level of football intelligence as JT. He is still learning to go through his progressions properly. If you bring the heat though you better get to him because he is the one QB on our roster that can put the ball anywhere on a rope.

I like Kendall and all, but I can also see Jones standing in the pocket and delivering the ball to where Kendall isn't in coverage anymore even while Kendall is in the process of taking him down. I mean, think how many times Logan got throws off just by virtue of being able to keep his feet a little longer than your average mortal.

I hope this situation just results in whatever safety is covering for Fuller getting a pick

It took some time but his concoction turned out better than what good 'ole stiney could make.

Stiney vs. Loeffer, The Data:

Stinespring (OC from 2002 to 2012)
Scoring: average of 41.72, best year 12th (2003), worst year 90th (2008)
Yards per game: average of 66.63, best year 35th (2011), worst year 103 (2008)

Loeffler (OC from 2011 to 2014)
Scoring: average of 92.5, best year 39th (2011, Temple), worst year 122nd (2012 Auburn)
Yards per game: average of 97.25, best year 68th (2011, Temple), worst year 122nd (2012 Auburn)

Loeffler's best years are Stiney's average years.

I will say this though: If cardale wins the QB job all bets are off. To me he is still a wild card. I could see Bud Foster absolutely having a field day with his inexperience. I could also see cardale completing a few long passes early with his cannon and opening up the lanes for Zeke. My whole take on this situation is predicated on JT winning the job (which I'm 80% certain he will).

OSU had some of the fewest quality wins last year before the playoffs started. In the end, osu only got in because the big12 didn't have a championship game (and kept changing who they said was "champion").

The playoffs I think will continue to pick primarily the p5 conference champs with the worst looking one being kept out. That's why winning convincingly will be important from here on out, especially with us being in what is perceived still as a weak conference.

I do believe that VT has Ohio State figured out, which is why VT will probably win. They have Ohio State figured out, but they also have the personnel to do what no other team will do to Ohio State this year. I don't think VT had the better football team last year though. Its just a nightmare matchup. Sort of like how Stanford is usually the only team in the Pac 12 that can ever figure out Oregon. I think Ohio State matches up well against pretty much every team in the country except for one: VT. The combo of Bud Foster's genius, Fuller/Facyson in secondary, and that nasty D line is the perfect recipe for making the Ohio State offense inept. So if VT does win again this year I do think people will remember last year and pause a second before overreacting. I think voters want to believe in Beamer/Foster, but they are taking a longer than normal wait and see approach.

Like it or not, this will be the reaction should we lose on Labor Day. Our win last year will be dismissed as a fluke, and an OSU win would be perceived by some as restoring cosmic balance to college football. It fits the narrative that a national champion isn't supposed to lose to a 7-6 also ran.

yeah, I don't think they could have left out the only undefeated P5 team from the playoffs, but given the nature of some of their wins, I think a single loss would have pushed them out of the top 4. So yes, if you win them all, the W is all that counts, but in a popularity contest between one loss schools, your wins better look good.

That said, one could argue that another team could have provided a better game against Oregon even if they had fewer wins than FSU. I think that game could be used as evidence to increase emphasis on strength of schedule and quality of wins from here on out.

Exactly, some people are just meant to be coordinators. A good modern example is Kiffin, spectacular failure in multiple head coaching gigs but a great Offensive coordinator...
