Someone who well versed in these things, please help me out. What does that mean for his eligibility moving forward? Would he be eligible to come back to VT after some period? If yes, how many years of eligibility would he have left?
Yep. And, he was aligned deep as a safety. In that alignment, Bud wants the QB to not see the blitz from the corner. If the QB sees it, then the safety has to play inside-out and deeper than the receiver. If he catches a quick curl, you make the tackle and live to fight another day. Riley instead tried to jump the route, and Thomas lofted the ball right behind him. At the very least, it should have been a contested throw. Busts happen, but you have to have consistent guys at the safety spot in Bud's defense.

I was the 4th biggest player on varsity my senior yr of hs at 185 and 5'10" so yeah. Small school
Yeah but if he's the only true play-maker on the team and the others are new he can only take some much pounding in a year. We play them late so he'll have plenty of wear on him from being hit and add with the combination of Ekan-ibal and Dadi coming down on him I believe we can contain him. Contain him and I think we lock them up, especially if the offense plays to their potential this year.
After a year at JUCO he will have 3 years to play 2 at an NCAA school.
Once your eligibility clock starts, it counts down regardless of where you are enrolled.
