Shanker is their resident FSU guy (meaning he covers the FSU beat more than the ACC as a whole, which should tell you something) and sometimes it feels like he only watches FSU and their future opponents. That's my only real issue with him. This crew, especially Hale, is much better than when Dinich was running things.
There are two beliefs that all ESPN reporters must have and they even test for this during the interview process: #sources
1. Understanding the Transitive Property - If VT beat OSU and OSU won the national championship, then VT is better than the national champion.
2. Last year's records project this year's outcome - Team A was 7-6 and Team B was 9-3 last year. Therefore, Team B will undoubtedly be better than Team A this year.

I loved LT3 as much as anyone, but I always thought he was lacking in that attribute, and I suspect it affected the team's success on the field.
Also, can someone enlighten me on the relationship between the NCAA regs on how much time student athletes can spend at practice and how much time they can commit on their own to this sort of practice?
I think Maryland usually goes by UMD, although yours could still work as Unwise Monetary Decisions or something like that

They made it to the ACC Championship two years ago and beat us in Lane. I'd say they were ahead of us.

I am so with you on this statement. Sometimes I feel like people bitching about the PC Police are worse than the actual PC Police. We are not getting weaker as a country. It is just that people who previously felt like they couldn't speak up, now feel empowered to do so. Add in social media and opinions on polar opposite sides seem magnified, even though they are not representative of most people.
Too PC, not PC enough. Shit ebbs and flows. Eventually we will reach a happy medium when people learn to not overreact. I'm not holding my breath.
Like any sport besides Football and Men's basketball and bass fishing really matters...
It's easily one of my favs and doesn't break the wallet. Smooth as Makers.

# | Hokies Ponder How to Best the Buckeyes Again, as Excitement Builds for "Most Anticipated Game Ever" I hate to be that guy, but I seem to remember OSU fans saying VT wouldn't be able to handle the stadium, fans, night game, history, tradition, record, home opener, etc........
The fact is, a couple of tough punches to the mouth can level the home field advantage quickly.
Edit: With that said, Lane is pretty consistently loud. OSU should be in for a bit of a treat with anything short of the Miami game last year.
Yeah, I don't see Duke being quite as productive this year as they have been for the past two. They lost a lot.

It's just the difference between the cultures of the two programs. You guys have a long, storied history, with NC's and such. All of you grew up with great football histories and traditions. It's like a religion for many of you.
We don't have that history. We're rabid about being the underdog, the spoiler. It's all still new for us and instead of a religion, it's more like a fever for us. We ALL Enter Sandman, even old ppl jump (as much as physically possible). Nobody sits in Lane.
I went to the Horseshoe last year. It's just different and it doesn't have a lot of press outside our region. At least not in other conferences. So, you guys are in for a bit of a shock and I hope a bit of a treat. The fans were great in Columbus & I hope you're treated well in Blacksburg.

# | Hokies Ponder How to Best the Buckeyes Again, as Excitement Builds for "Most Anticipated Game Ever" As for playing at night, we've played a few big games at night in the Horseshoe so we're used to big games in a loud and challenging environment
With all due respect, I have to caution you here.
One. Playing a few big games at night in your home stadium doesn't adequately prepare your team for a hostile environment.
Two. I was in the Horseshoe when we played there last year and, first of all, I was really impressed with the shear size of the stadium and the coordination of the fans (about 98% wore red...well done!!) but the noise level just isn't the same as Lane. Lane is a smaller stadium, but it is designed to contain noise. In many ways, the Horseshoe reminded me of Clemson's Death Valley. It's big, and the fans are well coordinated but it only gets kind of loud occasionally (and even then, the noise just doesn't get trapped like it does in Lane). This is where Lane sets itself apart. The level of noise is high incessantly. There are no breaks for the opposing offense in Lane. Whether we are ahead or behind, whether you just broke a big play or we made a huge sack, whether it's the 1st quarter or the 4th quarter, whether it's 1st down or 3rd down, the fans are always yelling and screaming at the top of their lungs. I have been to big imposing stadiums but I have never been to another place that is consistently loud regardless of down, distance or score. I hope you're able to make the trip and I promise you will not be disappointed. It will be like nothing you've experienced before.
I don't have time to check myself here, but I believe Lane is one of only 2 stadiums to ever be recorded on a Richter Scale. Lane is easily the loudest stadium fan for fan in this country. Partly due to it's design, and partly due to the crazy fans yelling and screaming for every single defensive snap. The only games that are 'quiet' in Lane are the noon games against unranked opponents. And even those games are pretty loud.
So be careful thinking that your big night home games in the shoe have prepared your team for Lane. It. Just. Is. Not. The. Same.
