I know we are talking about single player performances but the most dominating performance between two players I ever saw was Ryan Williams and David Wilson against Marshall their freshman year.

I have zero inside knowledge, but according to available documentation about the process, expulsions meted out by the Student Conduct board are only overturned on technicalities or if significant new evidence comes to light. Winning an appeal is extremely unlikely. Everyone should accept the fact that he's gone. If somehow he's reinstated, we should take it as a miracle and hope that he keeps it together for the rest of his time at VT.

That was a great game, great bowl experience, and a great year for the Hokies...after the first two games. But in the Sugar Bowl, it was every bit as big a defensive performance in the second half as Druck and Still's that allowed us to pull ahead and win.

While its post-season rather than pre, Phil Steele has VT ranked 16th. So throw out the 16 and 35 as a wash and I agree with your ranking assessment.

Pro-tip: If Frank Beamer thinks they will be "pretty good", we could be looking at a truly magical season for the hokies. Usually he says something along the lines of "we've got a good group of kids down there, but we've got to keep improving and taking things one day at a time". And that's after winning 6 straight games into the season.

I looked at how various publications ranked VT going into 2015.

USA Today 21
Lindy's 24
ESPN 26
Athlon 35

Athlon seems to be the outlier. Most people have them around the top 20-25 and challenging for the Coastal. So, someone other than Coach Beamer thinks they are pretty good too.

Luckily our beast d-line will be rushing opposing qb's so much that they will not have time to throw so it is really a moot point who is in the secondary! On a serious note, with 3 all ACC caliber (one of them all NCAA) players back there I am sure Bud will figure out who to plug into the hole that was reaved through our D...

Still frustrated that Ore flamed out like he did.

Now just imagine if you had a few "MonstORE" t-shirts custom made right before he flamed out. Not saying it was me, but it wasn't not me.

As usual, French, a comprehensive and informed look at the options. The tenuous nature of our type of defense is exposed when we lose someone as important as Reavis, and while Bud's expertise can cover a lot of sins, it is disappointing to lose such an important cog. I do hope Reavis gets his situation sorted out in his/our favor, but it looks like we just have to move on. It's college ball, we don't have anyone but for so long anyway.

I don't know about you, but if I were an FSU fraternity, I wouldn't want the football team anywhere close. Fraternities are having enough issues with rape, etc. Then again, I'm near 30 and actually think these things through....

Nice write up to see what's possible. No Bud-Foster pun intended but in some strange way this could be a blessing in disguise.

So, assuming Reavis has been forced to leave school for some student-code violation, would it be possible for him to be readmitted at a later date, one year or so?

Nothing special, but I went fishing off the dock at Smith Mountain Lake and caught three average size carp and a catfish. Just kinda messing around catching little sunfish with my niece using bread and they came out of nowhere.
