One other observation that I will discuss more- Ohio State kept playing their cover 4, which was incredibly susceptible to rub routes in the flat (WR's running off the corners and the linebackers were too slow to get to the flat on running backs peeling out of the backfield) and deep in's and outs coming back to the football. Georgia Tech played cover 2, keeping a corner between the QB and the WR on those comeback routes and stuff in the flats- and bingo, suddenly VT didn't have an adjustment until against UVA where they started getting some action working vertically.
If Ohio State changes their MO and starts out in some cover 2, you can bet that Loeffler will run some four verts early to try and get something down field. The vertical passing game was an emphasis in the spring.

Have any offensive Watch Lists come out yet other than the interior linemen one? Because I think almost every defensive starter is on some sort of list and then Wyatt Teller.

Every year there is a team that is pre-season ranked in the 30-50 range that has that "magical season" where they flirt with the top 10 or actually get there. I'm looking at Texas (27), Florida (28), Miami (29) , OK St (30), Arizona (32) Wisconsin (34), K State (39), Louisville (44), and Washington (46) as those teams this year (ESPN Rankings).
Relying on the info in the magazines, a Virginia Tech team ending up in the top 10 would mean the following concerns/questions were answered very positively:
- have a top 40 offense (96th in total offense last year)
- Brewer had 8 TD's and 4 Int the last 6 games; needs to carry that over and improve the ratio
- Passing game generated 6.2 yards per attempt (105th), receiving corps needs to be productive
- RB's need to be healthy and more productive
_ keep all D linemen healthy (Maddy, Nicolas, Marshall, Ekanem, Williams)
- Motuapuaka has to play well at LB and Deon Clarke stays healthy
- Brandon Fayson return to form and allow Chuck Clark to play safety
- Have a + turnover margin
- Misc: be able to continue to apply pressure with aggressive blitz packages; limit explosive plays (gave up 79 EP's last year); team confidence and trust after suffering disappointment last year.
Nothing there that's not doable. There's a few guys who haven't played that need to play well. Injuries and balls bouncing the wrong way you can't account for. Even good teams can use some good luck. Confidence and team unity are great things to have, but hard to attain and maintain.
Regardless, it's going to be fun to watch this team answer those questions. I don't think they will be all answered Sept 7, but should be by November.
Interesting tidbit regarding the ID of the killer. I hadn't noticed this, but apparently the theme song changed ever so slightly from Episode 1 to Episode 2. They moved a couple of lines from the end of the song into the an earlier portion of the tune.
The key line in question is "I live among you, well disguised".
Leading to a lot of speculation that this is a hint that the killer is a main cast member (not necessarily one of the 3 detectives), but a person we met in the first 2 episodes and features prominently in the series.
Another little tidbit from checking out the blogs: the masks found in Caspere's home represent a group called the Hamatsa. This was a native American secret society that believed in a group of man eating monsters, which included Gwaxwgwakwalanuksiwe...who was a raven that pecked men's eyes out. Cool connection.

Reavis not enrolled at VT, appealing student conduct decision No, but for his corners that means they play left and right corner, so they get experience with both the boundary and field responsibilities. I'd be fairly surprised if Facyson has taken any reps at either safety spot since his first spring.
I really have no inkling as to the ID of the killer yet. My best theory is that the Vinci mayor is directly involved somehow, and had his city manager killed. I think the fact that the manager was also stealing from Frank may just in the end be a coincidence to mislead all of us, including the detectives.
Game was tied at 14 with 6 and a half mins left in the 3rd. Andre Davis single handedly turned it into a 34-14 rout by the start of the 4th.
Farrell is really the surprise of the show for me. I would not call myself a fan of his persay, but his character has really grown on me as the season progresses. For all his f-ing up, you see glimmers of good detective work in there more and more frequently.
I also like his interactions with McAdams. But I agree I think the writers havn't given her character or Taylor's enough meat to work with yet, but I could see that changing as we get more into some of the freaky deaky cult "club" stuff.
This has my vote. He had more time in the Clemson backfield than any of their running backs.
Weren't those three scores a TD reception, end around run, and a PR in under three minutes of game time. When I think of great performances that is what I think of.

Part of the mystique of Bud Foster is "sees how you lineup" doesn't equate to what happens after the snap.
On a not-directly-related note:
Re-watching last year's game this morning, two things stood out to me based on recent discussions had on this site:
1. Two pass interference calls on underthrown balls on like the very first series (a foreshadowing of ECU review, but already an issue in Columbus)
2. On the other hand, there was some success against the edge runs which shows some promise at keeping the backfield contained
Vaughn's acting seems a lot better to me when he's in mobster mode, not discussing land contracts. I think Farrell keeps getting better with every episode. I was amazed how "cop like" he was in the final scene, not what I really expected from his character.
