some of this could be true.. it seems some charges have been dropped to misdemeanor but we will never know for what reason.

While I realize that innocence almost always begins with the girl, I have to wonder if she and the girl directly involved with Shai were luring older guys under false pretenses and when adults found out, the father figure came in with the swift hand of justice to protect daddy's little girl. Again, I'm not accusing the girls of any wrong-doing but if there were enough evidence, I would see some punishment for the girls as well. Maybe dad just grounded them for a year or something. It just seems to me that they way its presented, only the guys are the ones breaking the law, which may not be entirely true.

McKenzie's accomplice, Gavion, was facing a felony charge of carnal knowledge as well as one misdemeanor contributing charge. He also appeared in court on Thursday. Manor amended the felony charge to a class 1 misdemeanor, and dropped the other contributing charge. He will serve 20 days in jail and also be required to serve 50 hours of community service.

Manor explained the slight variance in time served between the two men is because Gavion was facing a more serious charge before it was amended.

In court, Gavion's attorney John Robertson said the former Virginia Tech student has decided to take a year off school and attend community college.

Both McKenzie and Gavion will report to jail in Montgomery County on July 17 at 5 p.m.

A former Salem football player also appeared in court on Thursday after he was charged with carnal knowledge just days after McKenzie and Gavion.

Devante Payne, who most recently played for Emory and Henry in the 2014-2015 season, will similarly serve 20 days in jail and be required to complete 50 hours of community service. The same girl involved in Gavion's case was also involved in Payne's charge. Her and her family were present in court for the hearings.

Growing up, black was acceptable, african american was prefered, but "colored" would get you in trouble.

Colored refers too many people back to separate but equal times. White only vs colored water fountains and such. It makes one think that having a dark hue is bad. African American was a progressive first step, but with so many people from the Caribbean and Africa migrating in, it doesn't carry the same connotation. Same principle with using colors. Using colors to describe people's heritage is quite simple minded. Example: Calling people "colored" and/or "black" when Black is devoid of hue. Counter intuitive.

I'll throw my 2 worthless cents in - having lived in both states. I'm originally from Kentucky. From there, going south, the summers are stifling (although mountainous areas south of there are a little better). This summer has been weird up here in NE Ohio with heat/humidity, some cold spells, and tons of rain (8" in June). I live in Holmes County, Ohio (Amish Country), and typically I have summer days of near 80 with low humidity - and I just find that delightful. I grew up with 90+ degrees and high humidity where you can't breathe and you start sweating the second you step out of a cold shower. The weather is a mixed bag in April and May. It can be hot or snowing. June, July, and August are warm and comfortable to do anything outside. Sept and Oct are my favorite months: 60's and 70's for highs and 40s to 50's for lows. Now, at some point in Nov or Dec you start asking: why in the heck do I live here? The cold and snow is no joke, and it lasts through March. You get really sick of blowing and shoveling snow. That's the tough part, but if I have the choice of Ohio summers with the downside of the winter, or southern summers with the upside of winter, I'm taking where I am at. But that's a personal preference. If you have winter like we do, you need a 4WD truck and a few toys to have fun in the snow, and just make the best of it.

I live on a township road about 1/2 mile long. All of my immediate neighbors are Amish. We have no crime. I haven't locked my doors or taken my keys out of the ignition in decades. We have no slums. Everyone is employed. It's a great, great place to live. The tourists just about drive us out of our minds, mainly for driving 30 MPH in 55 MPH zones, and for stopping in the middle of a state highway to snap a picture of a cow or the like. But we know the back roads to avoid them. The Amish have some wonderful principles that would be applicable to every person and family, and they do some things that are real head-scratchers. But they are the best neighbors I have ever had. You couldn't move me out of here with an Abram's tank.

But I have nothing negative to say about central Va. If I could wake up every morning and see those mountains, you would never hear any complaints from me. It's a little too hot in the summer, but the winters are more tolerable. Neither one is better than the other, just different.

Sex with a minor seems like a major deal? There has to be something, some detail, some explanation we are all not privy to? But then why 15 days in Jail? And what happened to the other student, both academically and criminally? So many questions...

Not being privy to the entire situation (I mean, I've heard the age and everything, but I have no idea how it happened/what was said), I agree with you, but hope that perhaps the situation is not as bad as it sounds.

15 days in jail is steep for a first misdemeanor. Glad he can finally move on with his academics & athletic career.
