I'm not exactly sure what "history" he had with him...he allegedly called him soft a couple years ago and TT didn't like that...I wouldn't classify that as "having history" with someone

Thought I recognized a name on ND. Cavan and Conor Biggio are the sons of former Astros player Craig Biggio.

There is a bumper sticker down here Alabama, it reads..."If deer aren't supposed to be eaten, then why are they made of meat?" Friggin classic. Would love to sneak up on a PETA car and plant that beauty.

As a season ticket holder and frequent visitor to practice, I saw the potential of Thompson. I was a walk-on for Charlie Moir and have the best interest of the basketball program at heart.

Buzz had a history with Thompson; therefore, it shows maturity, not macho testosterone. Obviously you have never been in a leadership position. Put the program ahead of ego.

If you do it right you could check off eating a "peta member" and "tuna" at the same time...

Team ERA is slightly lower right now at 5.51 with the last three games calculated in that NCAA.org hasn't loaded yet. That still only moves them from 253rd in Div I to around 239th. It still is a definite weak link in this roster. The bigger problem on this team is their defensive efficiency and ability to prevent unearned runs. They have given up 23 unearned runs so far this season in 21 games. More than a run a game that isn't showing up in their team ERA.

Some stats: now, with Buzz pulling in over 2 million, that statement doesn't hold water.

Mark Gottfried, N.C. State -- $1,950,000
Jim Boeheim, Syracuse -- $1,905,576
Mark Turgeon, Maryland -- $1,900,000
Jamie Dixon, Pittsburgh -- $1,830,176
Roy Williams, North Carolina -- $1,773,938
Tony Bennett, Virginia -- $1,700,000
James Johnson, Virginia Tech -- $680,000
Mike Brey, Notre Dame -- $616,843

The phone is a red herring. Coaches and players build a relationships through recruiting and it is clear this wasn't a positive relationship from either side. Thompson probably considered this the worst possible hire for him because of this negative relationship. Coupled with Thompson already thinking there were high majors interested in his transfer and this was a pretty easy result to project.

Guys, guys......it's not about the phone.
It's about setting the tone and managing a team.
I have nothing against TT, but I guarantee that Buzz knew all about each and every kid on the team before he made a decision. Whether his opinion of TT is fair or not, we can debate, but also remember Buzz is a proven winner and knows what is expected at VT.
TT just provided Buzz with an early, impactful and authoritative opportunity to start the change in culture.
And remember, Buzz made it TT's decision....and he made it.
Buzz is going to work, and that's what Whit/VT hired him for.

Common theme with these people is that they have complete disregard for people/children/humans, but treat animals with some kind of irrational reverence....ironic and pathetic.

I seem to rember excellent run production from many of those seniors last year. But I don't see a big difference there in the stats. A quick look shows 6.4 runs per game last year and only a slight drop to 6.3 so far this year, however ERA is 5.88 (near the bottom if Div 1) while it was 4.14 last year (middle of the pack). That's quite a difference when your hitting has to make up almost one and a half runs a game. Didn't look at the trending or other underlying data to see if we are trending up, but in a bit of good news we did take the series against Notre Dame this weekend, so now a winning record in conference!

Yeah. It had a cover story about the history of defensive backs at Virginia Tech. It included profiles of Frank Beamer, 75% of all Fullers, as well as several current professional Virginia Tech defensive backs. The best part though was the centerfold of Torrian Gray.

I am glad if he jumped on the guy for having his phone on during a meeting. Imagine you have a new manager come on at work, and the first meeting you have with him, your phone goes off? This is not going to make a good impression - and in a team situation it isn't about "YOU".

I am sure Coach K, or Roy Williams has yelled at an player for the same thing in their time. It just show that He was already wanting to bolt VT even before this coaching change.

But I am glad that some of the players are ecstatic about the change.. And top any player that *may* be reading this. Give the guy the benefit of the doubt, show respect it will take you a long way as a team and in life.

I just assumed it was the same as "Blacksburg, born and raised." I'm not inherently a folk from Blacksburg (I usually go with Blacksburgicite). There is no "Blacksburg" gene running through my blood. But, yet, that's how my entire life has been lived. Even when I didn't live in Blacksburg, I was still Blacksburg, born and raised.
