As much as I want to believe you...I know about that random fucking day in end of April/beginning of May that just wants to be "different" and be cold for no good reason. So I'll hold out.
This is a hot-button issue, so I'll simply say this: some people do equate animals and children because they are largely helpless against the will of a grown adult human, especially one with weapons. People need to stop downvoting the opinion expressed above; it's merely an observation of what some people believe. It may be the minority opinion around here (and probably overall), but there's nothing offensive about it.

Exactly, we don't know what happened but we know there was more than what we're hearing. In terms of getting chewed out, yeah it'll happen in practice and games and probably some meetings, my point was it would be a bit excessive for Buzz to go Bob Knight on TT if he left his phone on accidentally and apologized, especially in the first meeting. He may have tried to set the tone and showed his displeasure that the phone was on and TT didn't appreciate it, but it seems to me he was going to leave anyway whether this had happened or not.
Guys, guys......it's not about the phone.
It's about setting the tone and managing a team.

To reiterate, the only public statements made were by Thompson's father, who relied on what his son told him. Third hand knowlege, with ZERO followup questions asked by Mark Berman of the Roanoke Times. Berman's article included no followup such as - 'did Trevor answer his phone? Cut it off & apologize? Cut it off & say nothing? Did he not think it necessary to cut off his phone? Did he forget? What exactly did Buzz say? Exactly?...'
Even the 'soft' comment is from two years or more ago, and was supposedly told to Thompson's father by someone else. One side of the story from someone who was rumored to be leaving before the meeting was even held.
Every single player for Buzz will be chewed out in front of the rest of the team at some point during practice this year. Every... single... player... Guaranteed. The weak ones? They can leave, or they can adapt.

See, I told ya it would work out! On the serious side, Buzz might like Johnston's work ethic and give him another year's scholarship. It's not likely, but it is possible. Johnston might willingly return to walk-on status. One of the three Johnson recruits might decide that Buzz is not his kind of guy. Kirby might not work out, or anyone else might not work out. One of the new possibilities might not come. There are loads of options. This stuff has a way of working itself out, usually without all the private details becoming public.
If we do indeed get Harris & Cohen & Atwood in addition to our current group of recruits, it will be interesting to see where that places us in terms of class ranking. Especially since Buzz is highly regarded as a recruiter, we should get a favorable bump.
That was kind of my first thought when I read that his phone going off became the deciding factor. It's not uncommon to forget to silence your phone but if it goes off you immediately apologize, and you don't "chew out" a 19 year old, you tell him to turn it off and show in your face/tone that you're not pleased. If he answered it or Buzz had asked everyone to turn their phones off he had a right to chew him out. I think TT probably had an attitude when it went off because otherwise yelling at one of the players might have alienated the rest of the team which he obviously didn't.
Full disclosure: I myself didn't downvote him.
And there are huge ramifications at play if animals suddenly gain equal status to people. Probably not a TKP discussion, though.
