I have a suspicion that Beamer would piss on that fire if Pearl became a target.
I don't know how much influence Frank would exert in the hiring process, but I see him weighing in at some level.

Jets seems most logical, being that he already has an east coast presence and following. He will sell ALOT of jerseys in NY too, which I'm sure the NFL is very conscious of. (They are still wearing Teblow jerseys there) Besides them being a blah kinda franchise, the Jets have been the Bermuda Triangle for QBs the past couple years. Although, I'd rather see him in a big market on a so-so team, rather than somewhere like Tampa, St. Louis or KC. GO HOKIES!

He did set a bunch of tech freshman records, plus the tech record for assists in a season (at least according to hokie sports). 4.8 assists per game is pretty good for college, also his 5.5ish ppg is largely due to his lack of scoring early in the year. In person, he was by far my favorite player to watch, him and Joey started to have a good chemistry with the pick and roll too. I wouldn't be surprised if by the time its all said and done, he will leave tech as one of its best players of the past decade or so. Definitely better than Eric green was probably even when he was a sophomore.

The problems with having a cut off date for when LOIs can be received is that some recruits don't receive a lot of attention until their Senior Year and schools may have scholarships open up at the last moment. Kalvin Cline didn't play football until his Senior Year, so he didn't even recieve any attention for college football until a few months before signing day. He ended up commiting to the Hokies in late May, a couple months after signing day. Other situations might include students who aren't sure if they'll qualify until the end of high school and those who want to focus on finishing high school before they make a decision on college. There also could easily be instances where a school has a scholarship open up late because a recruit they're pursuing goes to another school, a comitted recruit is injured in a way that ends their athletic career, etc. If a school has a scholarship available they should be able to offer it to a freshman as late as they like.

49ers can't be an option, they have the wrong mascot. Teams Vick has played for:

Hokies (bird)
Falcons (bird)
Eagles (bird)

There's no way its a coincidence! So his only NFL options are the Ravens, Falcons, Eagles, Cardinals, Seahawks, and if he wants to stretch it a bit the Jets since planes are sometimes referred to as birds.

It might make a little dent into some of the dirtiness that goes in recruiting with some of the bigger programs.

How so?

I read there is something like 18 minutes of actual playing time in a baseball game. That's amazing, but even with that statistic baseball is not the worst. Cricket is the worst. Can you imagine a baseball speed game played over 3 and 5 days... Absolutely painful to watch..

But that being said, I like that football is not a continuous clock like soccer or rugby. I could do for less tv timeouts but what I like about the every down model is that it gives the fan time to enjoy the strategy of the game. Not saying soccer or rugby does not have strategy. Having played both I know they do, but as a fan I enjoy chatting with my friends in the stands or around a TV about what the team should do next. "man, why aren't they running up the middle?" "Another screen pass! WTF?!" "OMG, he just destroyed him!" "Kyle Fuller just high-fived that ref! haha"

The breaks make me enjoy the game more. I've been to a World Cup game and experienced the buzz. The stadium is really exciting, but honestly I have never ever felt anything like Lane Stadium. Even through TV, the Miami game where everyone "was losing their minds" was so electric. It happened that way because there was a pause, fans speculating on what to do, Enter the Sandman starts playing, people lose their shit, players get pumped and go out and kick ass. This is what make football special.

The Pat Tillmans of their generations!

The Welsh have a way with names. I guarantee, if he had brothers, there was a Hugh (or Huw) and probably an Owen there. And his mother's maiden name was either Jones, Price or Evans.

I agree that extreme brand loyalty to nike is absurd, and a this point they're not selling you a pair of shoes. They're selling you a logo.

It also made it much easier when they inevitably pushed the Hoo into the lake at the end of the hike.

OK... Here goes:

On June 1, 1918, Williams' command was sent (reluctantly) to support the UVA sports program at Belleau Wood. As the Marines arrived, they found The UVA sports program retreating through their lines. A UVA coach, (who announced he was an ex-cop), attempting to acquaint the Americans with the realities of the situation and not trusting his spoken English, scribbled a note to Williams, it read : "YOU!". The Marine officer looked at the UVA coach coldly and said, "Retreat, hell! We just got here." Williams reported the incident to his battalion commander, Icabod Jebadiah Beamer (Frank's great -grand uncle) with the following message: "UVA sports program drawing back through us. UVA coach ordered me to withdraw with him. Told him to 'go to Charlottesville'."

They got both of our alternate helmets that I actually liked and left out all of the ones that I disliked. (Asside from the tracks. Lord.)
