I thought the finale was very good because it stayed true to the show. I also liked the Breaking Bad finale because it too stayed true to the show. Both were completely different endings. Vince Gilligan packaged everything neatly and tied it together with a bow on top, because throughout the series Walt and Jesse always fell ass backwards on ways to escape dire straits. For me, True Detective was never about Rust and Marty bringing the curtain down. It was about their relationship, and to a lesser extent the time is flat narrative.
Over 8 episodes Nic Pizzolato did an excellent job telling the 17-year story of Cohle and Hart. Additionally, events repeat in 2012 when the detectives blast away Errol, like they did Reggie Ledoux in 1995. In both cases, most of the mystery remains, and a lot of evil people are still at large.
If these characters had a second season, a big twist like Marty being involved with the cult (there were, seemingly, red herrings about Marty's daughter being abused) would have made for a wild story. Hart and Cohle chasing down and exposing the Tuttle family would have been very compelling. However, I think there's a fine line to balance between letting a story linger to its detriment, and finishing it early to ensure peak entertainment and excitement. I think Pizzolato did a good job of walking that tightrope. However, I'd watch 5 seasons of Marty and Rust writing out parking tickets because the acting by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson was so damn good.

It gets old..."I want to enjoy the recruiting process"...its a bunch of BS.
I wouldn't call this BS, recruits get to visit a bunch of unique college towns, party with football players (and their girls), meet famous coaches/players, eat at nice restaurants, etc. A lot of recruits take advantage of all these things, why not? I sure as hell would.

I honestly don't really follow next years recruiting commits, because of this very reason. Sometimes kids commit to look cool or show that they are d1 talent to other players. Its all an image of SWAG or popularity for some of these kids. In a weeks time they could get offered by another school and that's their flavor of the week.
Rarely do we see a kid commit and stay committed unless its to Bama or other National Championship teams.. other than that its pointless to get excited.
I'm sure he's still considering us, but his decommit casts strong doubts on whether he will recommit. No one who has decommitted from us in the past has ever recommitted. The decommit essentially says, "I've changed my mind."
The day I left Tech for the last time after seven years and two degrees and realized a mile down the road that I was leaving home. My best Hokie moment and the worst.
A bittersweet moment, to be sure.

One additional point - there's a reason Saban wanted Fisher very badly, and it wasn't just to steal another recruit from Tech. Saban's a defensive-minded coach and Fisher has all of the attributes he seeks in defensive players.
Correct. I am saying allow offers to go out start of Junior year, and let kids commit via LOI whenever they want.

When the enemy succeeded in completely surrounding First Lieutenant Monteith and his unit and while leading the fight out of the situation, First Lieutenant Monteith was killed by enemy fire. The courage, gallantry, and intrepid leadership displayed by First Lieutenant Monteith is worthy of emulation.

Never said the NCAA cares, and actually not talking about the NCAA. What I am saying is that in its current state, recruits give verbals as an indication of where they will sign. And as you pointed out some change their mind a lot. The trouble is that everyone, including the schools recruiting them, use the verbal as some form of indication and will judge whether to give another kid a scholarship or not based on that. If recruits can give an LOI at any time then schools can have a contractual commitment from that kid immediately, and don't need to play the guessing game that he may get stolen or choose another program. Meaning any time a kid says to a coach "I'm going to X school" they can say "great, hand me the LOI". If they don't then they know he is not serious yet and can react accordingly.

Schools can't actually offer a scholarship IN WRITING until something like halfway through the Fall Semester of the recruit's senior year. We hear all the time about a scholarship being offered to a kid who is a sophomore, freshman, or even a kindergartener, but those are just them saying "hey, we want you to come to our school and we will give you a scholarship in time to do so." They don't actually have a scholarship offer until it is in writing from the university. Which is why there often is some sort of drama as a recuit that committed early under the notion that he would receive a scholarship didn't receive a letter saying that they have a scholarship for him.

I must be missing something. In what way does the NCAA care about verbals? I understand them to be a non-binding statement of intent. Much like I can say I'm committed to going to McDonald's for lunch, but then decide to go to Souvlaki's instead without any repercussion.

definitely the place to be for my work. You must be quite good with languages though, or have a lot of time on your hands. Usually people can't pick it up that fast. I can only read a little.
Regarding women, I think you've had some bad experiences or you're going to the wrong places. I don't want to be crude so I'll just say if this is what you're looking for then Full Metal Jacket fantasies don't even come close to reality here in China. And it's get far, far crazier in most other Asian countries.
for me, I am happily married with a beautiful daughter. Those days are pleasantly behind me but damn were they fun.
