I can understand why they have 'VA TECH' at the bottom to show the score since VA is the abbreviation for Virginia, but saying VT takes less time and rolls off the tongue better. Whit just needs to go to Bristol and unleash his inner Rogers on someone.
Ok, we already know that SAM ROGERS is legendary, but is anyone here getting a similar vibe with Dev Carter?? Thoughts?

>cough< Kevin McAdam >cough<. Btw, did you know that traitor is in his 4th year on staff @ wvu!?
Good points. In addition, the media need to make an effort to use correct terminology. VT Athletics puts out a brand identity guide and it is given to all broadcasters and journalists. They are specifically told how to refer to us and how not to refer to us. Yet, you still get these chuckleheads from E$PN calling us "Vah Tech," or "Virginia Tech University," and if the Worldwide Leader in $ports doesn't get it right, then no one else is going to be expected to. They're helping to erroneously define who we are. It's a small thing, but it's important, and it happens every damn year over multiple games.
Great point, Beamer is the God of VT Football.
If the issue is identity, they can look to the bottom of the screen and see 'VT' or 'VA TECH' and us winning. As long as maroon or orange is the primary, people are going to recognize us. People should know us by watching our awesome defense, lunch pail attitude, and a resurgence of BeamerBall, and note our uniforms if they want. I liked the Hokie Stone and Fighting Gobbler helmets. They weren't randomly chosen and meaningless like if we chose a Pokemon, they represent our ideals and past, so quit calling out a lack of brand identity by bringing in irrelevant stuff and sarcastically calling us Virginia Tech University.
I hate all of the cute little variations we come up with. Maroon brain buckets only please.
This is why there should be no verbals. It's useless. When you "commit" you should have to sign your LOI.
OK- The weekend can end now. That made my day-
The problem with the multiple helmet designs is that it undermines the effort to create an identity. We could put cool transformers and pokemon on the helmets too, but the casual observer is going to wonder "is that the same school as VT?"
Way to go Virginia Tech University!
There was also a point when a Hokie was wrestling a terp and the crowd was chanting turn the turtle!!!!
I think losing Kyle Fuller to injury was a big part of that. He made so many plays in the open field for us. When he went down, it changed the makeup of what we were doing. I don't have a lot of X's and O's reasons for that, just sort of a gut feeling. When Kyle was 100%, we handled mobile guys fine (Marshall, GT, UNC) but then struggled in games that he missed (UMD, UCLA).
My point was that Bud doesn't just have some problem with mobile QBs. He's dealt with them quite successfully in the past. Even this season, we did a good job against most of the mobile QBs we faced, like Cato of Marshall and Marquis Williams of UNC. I'd say without question our struggles at times this year were execution-based. Like Bud said (and I witnessed), there were times we'd have guys converge on the QB, only to hit each other and have the QB pop out to scramble. He said we'd have guys on spy responsibility drifting to cover receivers. I wouldn't say no to a few more live tackling drills, but other than that, I'm not sure what else we can expect of Foster. The flaw is not in the gameplan.
Congratulations to the Virginia Tech wrestling team! ACC CHAMPIONS!!!— Bud Foster (@coachfostervt) March 9, 2014
First off, I edited the OP to correct a couple inaccuracies and to include Gustafson's beastliness.
The crowd was awesome. Even when one MD fan (who was wearing a MD cape that woulda been pretty cool if he wasn't so obnoxious with it) tried to get a Maryland cheer going, we all just responded HOKIES. And HokieFish is right, for the most part our guys wrestled at or above their seeds. Even the two 2-seeds who didn't make it to the finals at least claimed third.
Also, Gustafson is a beast. I love what Carter said about him and that he called Gustafson up to take pictures with him after Carter won outstanding wrestler.
not worried.
And he's just a freshman
I think it's important to note that we only had one wrestler seeded #1 (Devin Carter). They did a great job wrestling above their seedings.
I have no desire to have a 'white' guy in the defensive backfield anyways.
Watched all the matches today Gustafson and Carter were amazing in there wrestling with Gurtafson being a bit of a surprise with how well he handled the technical parts of wrestling but of course mad props have to go to Carter it takes a special guy to come back 3 moths after surgery and win the ACC title. Great job to all of VT wrestling and I hope we have more success in Oklahoma City!!!!
The Gobbler was the best.
I wonder if Ty Walz can play defensive line...

Yep, to be clear, I couldn't care less about "VA TECH" being on the screen - my brain translates "VA" to "Virginia" because it's a known abbreviation. I just hate people they enunciate it like "Vah," because when I was in school, I was told that "Vah Tech" originated as a jab from our not-so-successful neighbors to the northeast, said with a comically thick Southern accent, to try to make us sound like a bunch of dumb yokels. That's the main reason I hate when E$PN tries to legitimize it as a way to refer to us.
Maybe as payback, we should start simply saying "UVA" the way it looks. In Spanish, "uva" means "grape." Grapes make wine, and basically everyone up there would rather be having a wine and cheese party than going to a football game...
