Who's going to bring it down? The NCAA? Like the brought down UNC, Miami, or the entire AAU sytem?
AAU *is* college basketball recruiting now.
Did the Hokies watch at game tape; or just envision who would look good in a Head-and-Shoulders commercial?

Scout is awful in their own right... but that said, ESPN partnered with Scout, but added in their own influences to the rankings...
This would be a huge get for VT. This kid's workout numbers are insane. Hopefully his old team mates can sway him and he doesn't get plucked by FSU or the SEC.
Got to see him in person and scout his team this year. Probably the one guy I am most excited to see if he can make it at Tech. In three films and game I watched in detail not once did I see him get knocked backwards. He always gave the hit before he went down getting those extra one to two yards.
But remember if he takes any tutoring from this girl he will most likely fail english comp 1 and loose.
From what I understand he has actually been playing a lot of linebacker in the past year. I definitely think he is the heir to Jarrett at Rover.

The system may be different but if you have talent, are a force, and are disruptive then the NFL scouts will want you.
Sure, but the impression I'm getting is that it's not just that "the system is different" it's that the skill set that you spend 4-5 years developing to play DL in the BF system is fundamentally different from the one that you would use to be successful in most NFL teams, it simply doesn't traslate well. He used Derrick Hopkins as an example: three year starter, talented, big, and very disruptive...Probably doesn't have an NFL future.
I don't think your GT WR analogy is a cromulent one because the GT system just doesn't utilize recievers, it doesn't actually teach them skills that don't translate to the NFL. A better analogy would be GT QBs or even (I would guess especially) GT OL. GT needs a specific type of OL to be successful in their system, they teach them a very specific set of skills...I don't know that said skillset translates well to the NFL. I don't have any actual numbers with me, but I imagine the number of GT OL under Johnson drafted and/or playing in the NFL is not very high. If you are a VHT OL with NFL aspirations, it doesn't make sense to go to GT and spend 4-5 years learning how to chop block in a tripe option offense.

While we would enjoy the recruits, I think the wise fan would have an issue with it and you touched on why that would be.
I think that when you start to peel back the layers on this you are going to see a money trail or some sort of kickbacks.
We don't want to be caught up in this mess when it all comes falling down. I hope that this article acted as an exposé for what's going on down there, but who knows what will happen. Where there's smoke, there's usually a fire. And if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck...well you know...

I love my Hokies but let's not pretend we have all high character guys. Marcus Vick was certainly not a saint, or even Michael Holmes for that matter.
The whole reason I posted it, is because just because guys are ranked high does not always mean they pan out. Harley comes to mind most recently and even Trip Carrol was one of most highly touted recruits we ever got but he never saw the field. It's the harsh reality.
Our coaches tend to do more with less.
He has AllMaroonEverything down pretty good.
Yeah it seemed really petty of them to do that. Makes you wonder if he did any of the same on any of his other recruiting trips.
Probably a good call - especially with our history of RB's and knee/ankle issues.

There are positives from getting a scholarship to UVA as far as education too; it just sucks that they have shut the door on VT and are trying to lock them out of a shot at recruits. I think that when you start to peel back the layers on this you are going to see a money trail or some sort of kickbacks. I don't think grown men get invovled with funnelling kids to schools in any sport without seeing financial gains. I don't think this is a black issue or a white issue either; its a green issue. Where there is money to be made off the physical gifts of others, 3rd parties will be there to 'help' those kids.
ahhh, the super storm i've been hearing about at work for a couple of days now. the guys here were saying it was gonna be this weekend but i guess it'll be a few days later. a mid-week snow storm, super.
I dont think the Whip is going away. We haven't had the required talent to play whip recently. It takes a very skilled player who can cover 1v1, tackle in space, take on blockers and blitz. Cody Grimm was the last guy we have had that could do the consistently. RVD was stepping into that role and was going to see a lot of time at whip this year until he got hurt which is why we went primarily to a nickel coverage(it didnt hurt having 2 fullers and a facyson for depth there) This year we don't have that great Nickel guy slated early on. We will run nickel a lot still against spread teams but the whip will stay around if Bud has a guy who can play it.
Its almost as if Coach JJ was the offensive guru while Seth Greenberg was in town, and took his offensive gameplanning and applied it to the defensive side of the ball as well.
In other words, we look completely clueless on offense and even worse on defense.
These are all perfectly cromulent words.
You know, it doesn't hurt to have hope. Georgia Tech still recruits quarterbacks just like Pitt still recruits running backs, just like Stanford recruits wide receivers, just like we should recruit linemen and linebackers. If we see a good guy like Settle, heck yeah we should go after him, regardless of the system. Because a lineman is still a lineman no matter how you slice it... he may be doing things a little differently, but he's still a lineman, and we need to recruit defense either way; the potential to play right away is always a draw.
