I'm not saying that every player we offer is the prototypical VT player. There will always be players that don't buy in. But UVA is clearly not profiting from the situation and that can't ALL be attributed to London being inept.
I think rule is you have to play everyone in your division. Another option would be rotating divisions. I did this with pods a couple of years ago where two pods are matched in one division for two years and matched with another division the next two years. They then rotate through the third pod across the four years so you play everyone in the conference home and away every four years and you try to place permanent rivals in pods together so they play each other every year. I've done this for 16 teams, but not for 14. Anyway, this is what it looked like then (you can tell it's old since Maryland is still there and Loserville is not):

I'm always excited with the players that choose to join our program and represent the University as citizens, students and athletes. I can't wait to hear about their first game experience in the Lane.
Regarding the recruits we did not get:
1. I am happy to not play in the 7-7 sandbox. I see no good coming from that. Developing good relationships with the HS coaches I believe is the right way to do it. Not sure why these 5 * sold on UVA vision think things will eventually change there, but that's their loss, not VT
2. If Javon Harrison wants to be close to home because of kids and family. Don't blame him. Good luck and God Bless. I probably would have done the same.
3. I would really love to know the real story why we lost Hand. Everything seemed gold, then out of nowhere, it seemed, VT was not on the final 3. I remember talk of him not hearing from Foster for awhile, the major was not a good fit, etc. It just seems very strange. If it turned out to be the "Foster Scheme" was a bad fit, fine. I just think there is more to it. Either way, Good Luck and God Bless.
I look forward to seeing all the recruits who went elsewhere to regret their decision when they meet VT on the field.

I like to believe (whether it is true or not) that we recruit a certain type of player that really wants to buy into the system and be a part of a team, not just a player that is biding their time to make it to the league. I want the type of player that is always going to be proud of being a Hokie, like Kam Chancellor or Eddie Royal, rather than the player that thinks the school did nothing for them, like Ryan Williams. If you look at the comments McCarron and Saban were making about the younger players at Alabama, it seems like they became too entitled and weren't buying into the program, which caused them to lose games. I want to ensure that the talent we recruit wants to be here because it is Virginia Tech, not because it can get them to the league.
I would have loved to have gotten Nnadi and Harrison...but oh well...Next man up!

Its a double edged sword however, since when you bring in 4 and 5 star recruits there is a sense of entitlement with them because they were the man. The lower ranked players come in with a chip on their shoulder and ready to prove themselves.
I don't think this is true at all. It's true for some players, but it's true for players at all ranking levels there are 2-3 star players who were "the man" wherever they are from. The insinuation that 4 and 5 star recruits didn't have to work very hard to get where they are and don't have good work ethics is beyond the pale, IMHO.

However, just like AAU basketball, these offseason program organizations are not at risk of answering to their school system about their job if impropriety is discovered. This has become a major problem in several areas (Memphis is notorious for it both with AAU and offseason football handers.)

I do agree that for our program to take the next step, we need to be able to grab higher ranked players. The more of them you have the better probability of success.
You should go read French's comments in the NSD Gut reactions article. He lays out very clearly why we are challenged in recruiting VHT DL recruits (and LBs, for that matter). It's not an issue of them coming to a website and reading why. They know why. Coaches recruting against us know why and tell them. Both our history of recruiting these players and our record of putting DL in the NFL kind of speak for themselves.

# | Read and React: "National Signing Day: Cavs' Mike London looks beyond high school coaches to cultivate Virginia Beach pipeline" I think the undertone of this, and it isn't being said without hard evidence, is that the kids/families are paying a nominal fee, so the real revenue for the program is coming from somewhere else. And then, all the kids go to UVA. You connect the dots. It won't win a case on Law and Order, but it the circumstantial evidence than somehow those programs are being funded by someone associated with UVA is strong enough to convene a grand jury.
The problem with proving it, as with the case of Oregon and the Texas "handler", is that the venture is likely being bridge financed. That is, a 3rd party who doesn't have a paper affiliation with UVA is footing the bill.
4th down QB needs to limber to be more involved in inadvertant fake punts.
If I had to guess... I'd say it was a case of Bama being Bama, and Saban showing him all his rings and the trophy case. There was probably also some talk about defensive schemes, and how they would be more likely to prepare him for the NFL than we would. There are a lot of factors that could play into it.
