I believe Harrison our coveted WR "commit" is. Our last shot to keep FSU at bay
Whoooooosh
I've heard sarcasm is lost on some...
I spoke with one of the Baseball Equipment Managers and he said much of the football equipment deal is hush-hush. Baseball has to buy their unis but I suspect that's different considering it's non-revenue generating. I think that Nike approached us about the Pro Combat jerseys, not the other way around. We may have approached them for the gray unis for Bama, but look at what we got out of that. Neat, but nothing exciting or special.
Black uniforms aren't going to change that.
They will if they look awesome, it's a night game, and we kick ass.
Then again, for it to be a night game it has to be somewhat relevant, so UVA would have to be pretty good for that to happen. So it won't happen.
It would be pretty awesome to get at least one contributor per sport. One article every two or three weeks would be enough to keep up to date on many of the programs. I would already have called dibs on that women's lacrosse team
Yea, we totally would have been undefeated all these years if we just picked the right uniforms to wear and not the ones that had bad mojo or whatever. Come on, I mean we are not Penn State with only 2 uniforms and no names (until recently) on the back.Spice it up every once in a while (not Maryland often), excite recruits, sell some jersey (and use said money on coaches). Yea #AllMaroonEverything is what I prefer, but do you just want one standard jersey for home games and one for away from here to eternity?
*Side note as a PSU fan growing up I absolutely do want this for PSU but that's their tradition, we don't have a tradition like that.
Impressive video and VERY impressive offer list. With his frame, I am surprised he is only a 3 star. What are his drawbacks?
Brady Taylor
As much as I love the classic look, if it gets us some big recruits down the road (see Oregon) I'm ok with this idea. At the end of the day it's about getting the players fired up and exciting the next generation of both recruits and fans.
With that being said, I totally understand the point you are trying to make.In my opinion, if we were to wear #allblackeverything and lose to UVA in 2014 they would begin to carry the same stigma as the Green Notre Dame jerseys: look really nice while you lose a big game.
But think- it's the perfect set up. All of the wa-boo-hoo's will start talking a bunch of smack because of proposed win over UCLA, and then we can crush their dreams for the 11th straight time.
End result: Time Robo Cop keeps job another year and no bowl game.
That's for helmets, I'd bet a good bit that it's different for jerseys. People are likely to go to the store and buy a cool Nike jersey that they saw on TV. People are not likely to go to the store and buy a cool football helmet that they saw on TV. While I could see there being limits to how many you get (causing us to have to auction some), I can't imagine that the schools had to pay for the Nike Pro Combat jerseys, for example.
I wonder if HokieJoe (the one working in athletics) has any insider info on this?
I hope this offer doesn't mean anything in relation to Nnadi and Javon Harrison and the Florida State speculation...
Is it too early to discuss moving him to TE??
I'm not sure you know what "fascist" means.
I didn't ask for an apology nor was my intent to make anyone feel sorry. I was just stating my opinion on the uniforms Tech should wear. Your reply seemed to imply people be should be allowed to do that.
Indeed, innovation is at the core of American culture, but so are checks and balances. Everyone in this thread has a different take on what uniforms we should wear and that's great.
"Every major sports league is trying to figure out how to create more interesting Unis for a reason, and that's because it makes things more interesting"
I think that's just part of a bottom-line driven strategy. Franchises and schools can now sell 2 or 3 types of jerseys instead of one.
And either I didn't do a good job of explaining why I would delete this thread, or you didn't understand what I was saying. There have been plenty of uniform debates on the website. If this topic was presented as a discussion over the merits of wearing the black uniforms against UVa I wouldn't have blinked twice. However, I don't want this place turning into a specialized Kickstarter or indiegogo.
2nd half was much, much better. We lost by 6.
There is some hope for next year.
1-We played without Emelogu and Adam Smith. They are averaging 11.5 and 11.0 points per game respectively. Emelogu will be a sophomore and Smith a junior next year. Emelogu, already a team captain as a true freshman, has a strong frame, a nice outside shot, and the athleticism to get to the hoop. Smith is a gunner with a scorers mentality.
2-Devin Wilson is improving rapidly. It is alot to ask to throw a true freshman in at PG in the ACC. He is getting to the rim and his outside shot is improving. He is a good athlete and I can see him being a good player down the road.
He is at 9.3 ppg and 4.8 assists. Not bad for an ACC PG, let alone a true freshman. Give him some time and he is going to develop into a good player. He has scored 14, 20, and 26 points over the last 3 games. (hit 3 of 4 from three point range last night) He is playing HEAVY minutes, night after night. He leads the team in minutes per game at 32.4. He is getting big time on the job training in the ACC...this will payoff big down the road. He is really stepping up right now and is improving rapidly.
3-Trevor Thompson showed some nice flashes last night. 10 points and 12 rebounds. Again, a true freshman. He is athletic and has length. Give him some time to bulk up and we have a good big man.
4-Joey Van Zegeren has hands of stone and no touch on his shot but the kid has NBA size and athleticism. He is blocking 2 shots per game and is only a sophomore. He will be one of the best shot blockers in the league within the next two years. If he can develop the ability to make his dunks and hit some layups, we have a guy who can make an impact. (he had 6 blocked shots against Notre Dame and 5 blocks against Boston College)
5-Barksdale will be a senior next year. He is averaging 8.6 ppg and 4.6 rebounds. He should at least be a serviceable power forward next year. He will need to step up his scoring and rebounding next year.
6-Marshall Wood has talent and some skills. He is only a sophomore also. We need him to step up and expand his game next year. Jarrell Eddie will be graduating, so Wood needs to fill some of that void at the small forward spot next year. He is hitting almost 40% from three point range this year. (only 38 attempts) He has good range for a 6'8" player.
7-Next season Malik Mueller will be joining the team. He has some international credentials and is a true point guard with size. 6'3", 210 pounds. Earned MVP honors at the Jordan Brand Classic international game in 2010 Has been a member of the German National Team since 2009. This will lift a big burden off of Devin Wilson, who leads the team in minutes. (since we have no other true point guard on the team) Mueller is allowed to practice with the team all year and will have 4 years of eligibility when he joins the team.
8-Maurice Kirby is redshirting this year but will give us more size up front next season. 6'9", 235 pounds. He has a much bigger frame than JVZ and Trevor Thompson.
9-Incoming freshman-TJ Lang is the 8th ranked player in Alabama. 6'6" forward who has some potential and Duke pedigree.
10-Justin Bibbs, 6'5" wing scorer. I have seen him compared to a "Baby James Harden"....wishful thinking but it would be nice if he was. He is the 14th ranked player in the state of Florida.
11-Jalen Hudson, another 6'5" wing scorer. He is the 4th ranked player in Ohio.
This guy is very athletic and can take it to the hoop. Check out this posterizing dunk. His head seems to be almost at rim level. We haven't had a guy that can do that for a few years now. (since Deron Washington)
So, all in all, there is some hope for the future. I do think JJ will get fired, but I think we should be better next year as the young guys develop. We really only lose Jarrell Eddie and Cadarian Raines. Raines is barely playing much anyway. (although he did play last night)
I am a little curious what has been keeping them from offering for this long though.
The way the LOLUVA athletic department works, he gets an extension and raise for going 5-7. I mean, it's more than double his win total for the previous year, so it definitely needs to be rewarded...
I'm actually speaking for the millions of people that won't be working that day. You could say what you just said about any day, including holidays. There are cops, firefighters, nurses, truckers, toll booth operators, hotel staff, gas station attendants, and power line workers that will be working on Christmas Day, but Santa ain't waiting for those guys to get off work.
I only see him once a year so it's bearable.
The jumps Bronson consistently gets off the ball in his highlights are ridiculous. The kid must have had an absurd number of tackles and TFL on the year. I hope we land him!
Please tell me that's from Ren & Stimpy?? I loved that show. Ahh the 90's...
anyone know who else is coming this weekend?
If he didn't get fired after last year....

I can respect that.
