You're really just trying to put the perception in the minds of the recruits you care about that there is reason to hope that this is going to turn out well in short order. Everyone else will be telling them something different behind the scenes. Go read their tweets and tell me if a PUBLIC face of reassurance and confidence out of the AD or even the coaches wouldn't hurt. Beamer calling them behind the scenes I hope and the AD or even another coach publicly committing as little as possible but making it seem like this won't be the sh** show that the last hiring process was, that we believe we're tracking on a solution well before signing day, yada yada yada. Then hopefully we've got a few guys who will at least be attractive and last til the end of the process that we can dangle in front of these kids. Everyone seems to think these kids don't have offers and I get that. But these kids have an endorsement from Grimes the new LSU OL coach and now that they're in play there is likely to be some renewed interest. I'm would guess 20 programs have probably called these kids pitching against us and for them and they'll be reminding them that despite what they're hearing from the coaches the interim AD seemed to have no clue where this was headed or if there was enough money to hire someone. You gotta counter the FUD.
5 OL, 1 or 2 WR, 1 DT that seem to be on the fence... hope there are no more, but you never know
There is the demand drummed up by FSU and the demand drummed up by VT. I hate that the gap is as big as it is, but when you even have to talk about stuff like this... then there is probably a systemic reason why you can't pull recruits. You F up the little stuff (which is actually pretty hard... good PR people are worth their salaries and then some), thinking you are a big time program that doesn't need to worry about things like public (recruit) perception.

Recruiting 101
Scrapp, here's my thoughts.
A person doesn't coach for a school. He coaches for people. Grimes is really good at what he does, but in the hierarchy of people he's coaching for, I think Frank Beamer and the kids come below Jeff Grimes and his family.
We can't match the offer LSU gave and "win one for the Beamer" isn't going to inspire a Jeff Grimes to stay. Now we know.
Just need to take a breath and go find the guy we NEED. We can't do what SEC schools do. What we need is a guy who will coach for the sake of Virginia Tech and Frank Beamer. Someone who wants that crystal trophy for HIS SCHOOL.
Now go fucking get Todd Washington!

Doubt we lose anyone else. Taylor is almost definitely gone, but the other 4 have offer lists where Tech is by far the best program.
Smith, Gallo, and Pettit are staying more than likely. Mitchell is probably around 50-50 and Taylor is probably gone (he would probably leave even if Grimes stayed.)

That's a good idea. Although I imagine it would be a challenge for all the drunks (me) who unintentionally enter the wrong line.

That was a shot at the NCAA, not Hop. I fully support and respect all Entrepreneurs, no matter age, business, or NCAA restrictions.
Doesn't surprice me one bit. Anyone that would have to do the rebuilding that he would need to here would want to be paid for it. Work twice as hard to get less capable recruites than LSU for half the money. He doesn't have ties to VT. Why would he stay?
That was what I called it when Coach Grimes got another O-line recruite during that period of time when he was pulling them out of NY PA and OH. Now that he is leaving he will not be pulling in O-line recruits for us any longer. Just trying to make a play on the coaches name really.
And I bet we loose at least 3 OL recruits. 1 for sure to OSU, whose next?
