Of course, but where is Bud going to move that has the same level of job security and the inside track to being a head coach? It'd be even better if he got a 100% raise and the same of everything else.
We can make up scenarios all day, but obviously if ever single factor is the same or better then you move. My point is simply that it isn't as cut and dry as being paid 67% of your "value".
Royal plays for the Chargers. He's not an everydown guy for them but often comes up with a big play/
I have no insight into practice squads at all. Teams normally post their practice squad roster once it's set then never update it until the following summer.
He's better there than at FS in my opinion...
Does Bonner excel at nickel?
Again, you can't discount Motley from winning the job. If one of the freshmen finish #2 in the QB derby, I expect them to play if the starter is hurt or has a sustained period of awful play. If the starter plays well, they will dress the freshman every game, but Beamer will try to keep the redshirt on them and play the upperclassman in mop up duty. That was the plan with Randall, Glennon, and Taylor until the LSU debacle.
Thanks, French. Agreed that it seems like Knowles plateaued this year, not sure how much more improvement we can expect from him. Perhaps a Dyrell Roberts type where he excites as a Freshman, but turns out that's about all there is to it.
Someone else said it, but it seems like Stanford has the potential to be a very good receiver if he keeps working and Byrn can be the dependable underneath guy, supplemented by the new guys coming in. Very curious to see who is going to be throwing them the ball next year.
agree with this, but the one time I saw Magnum (lol) in the backfield and Parker came across on the jet sweep they ran into e/o and it looked like a train wreck. After that the Jet Sweep plays became vanilla and we lost all confidence.
They're talking about Bud, not Grimes. Bud is only going to leave if he finds a pretty decent head coaching spot, at this point, and I don't see it happening.

My thoughts on Trey are well documented. He is heads and shoulders above every back on the roster this season.
I will reserve judgement on Williams and McKenzie until I can see them against the speed of the DI game. Everyone looks great on a highlight reel. I think both can be 1000 yard backs at VT but that doesn't take into account touches, surrounding cast, and health. I do like both better than I did Coleman and Mangus on their HS films.
He wants an O-Line that can grind down Alabama; its all about Saben for him. Also, he hasn't had a QB he could legitimely trust, so he wants to keep it on the ground.
On a positive note, Monday's are just plain awesome because they bring FLBP on theCHIVE.

I watched some film on Fisher when I wrote the post, and he was playing exclusively at middle linebacker and a strong side SAM in a 4-3. He definitely looked like a guy who could play backer. But, little did I realize that the film was all from 2012, not 2013.
According to this, Coach Shuman had him at free safety this season. I would imagine that he could be a free safety or a rover if he plays in the secondary. At 220, he would be much bigger than Devin Vandyke at mike linebacker.

Legend'ness, security and a path to be a HC don't only happen in Blacksburg. Grimes has got a ring, he'd probably like to have a second one. This job would pay him much. He's not thinking about failing and holding onto his job in Blacksburg in shame. He's assuming he will succeed wherever he is.
Agreed that it's not ideal for VT to compete in that type of market, and maybe assistant coaching salaries are on a "bubble." The disparity in compensation certainly stands out to me as some assistants rake in around a $1 million/year while other assistants on staff make closer to $250k/year. Factor in that as the $$ continue to roll in and coaches make more and more, players are going to be even more inclined to want a piece of the pie. It will be interesting to see where this all goes.

67% of your value to live in Blacksburg where you are a legend, have the most amount of job security that you could ever have, and have an inside track to be the next head coach in the near future? That's not a bad deal at all to me. There is more to look at then just money. Don't get me wrong, the money is important, but you'd be hard pressed to find someone with roots deeper than Foster's are in the Burg.
Position changes this spring? A few suggestions: Caleb possibly to Rover? The guy is an incredible athlete and we need to get our athletes on the field, I just don't see him seeing the field as a RB due to the huge crowd at the position. Also, with all of the talk about doing away with 'whip' position should the coaches think about (this may sound crazy) sliding RVD to backer due to the lack of depth/experience/maturity (Deon Clark) at LB? He's a sure tackler with good speed and doesn't lack toughness; but is he big enough and would it be too big of a task for him to learn the position? If they were to do that and go to a full out 4-2-5 nickel defense wouldn't it be smart to switch Bonner to nickel (which is where he excels the best) and let one of the younger guys fight it out for the free safety spot (Greene, Clark, Shegog, Fisher)?
I think there are easier remedies to that without abandoning division winners - that cure is just all kinds of messy and is probably worse than the disease
You know what would get us playing more Atlantic teams more often? Bringing back the 9-game schedule that they implemented and then cancelled. Honestly, I think we could deal with not having a I-AA team on the slate, especially since we have UVA every year.
Regarding the divisional champions playing in the ACCCG, leave it as it is. There's plenty of precedent for that sort of thing in college football as well as all of the Big 4 leagues.
