It is VERY easy to second guess, but I would have come back to it. I think that Loeffler wanted to run the inverted veer/jet sweep/QB keep/play action package much more often, but when Leal came in the game, he lost the running threat at quarterback. When you couple that with the lack of separation at receiver, it becomes easier to defend so he only used it as a change up the rest of the game.

Also, I think it is worth noting that they probably don't trust Parker as a pass catcher yet, hence Knowles was in instead of Parker when they tried the pass.

and interestingly, two have VT connections, Grimes and Todd Washington, an assistant OL coach for the Ravens & former Tech player.

I'll be happy if the Hokies are able to find a kicker that can stay on the team and not miss 30 yd FG's against Duke.

Loeffler did a terrific job of taking advantage of match ups and getting his receivers on linebackers or safeties, and to his credit, Logan did a terrific job most of the time of identifying that match up and exploiting it. UCLA countered by running man to man most of the game and kept their linebackers away from those matchups. Other than Stanford, the Hokie receivers really didn't get much separation the entire game.

Here, here on ditching cross division rivals. If there are teams that absolutely must play each other every year, stick them in the same division (VT-UVA?)

And this is why I need to find some stupidly rich chick to marry so I can live everyday like Saturday and Sunday.

This man.... this man's on to something.
Shoot, would that mean there'd be football on every day too?!

I think, like French pointed out, it was more the failure of the receivers to get separation. They likely weren't going to get a much better look from the defense than what they got, and the receivers still couldn't beat man coverage. It's less a knock on Leal and more a lack of playmakers on the outside. Also, I highly doubt Loeffler wasn't ready for Leal to come in. The offense was understandably simplified a bit, as you could see Leal just wasn't comfortable running a lot of the stuff from the shotgun (see the runners colliding in the backfield on one of those sweeps).

i don't disagree that Motley and Ford are going to be in the mix or even the ones to beat, but Leal is a MUCH better QB than Juju was. I was not impressed with the Sun Bowl but I think Leal has a legitimate chance. The same could not have been said for Juju.

I like those odds.

Maybe we can do this, as a consolation, we keep grimes. You hire whomever. We will meet in the playoffs.

Your fans. Our fans. We line the streets and have a death match. Again.

We are both 1 and 1 as far as I'm concerned.

Get a bunch of different air fresheners and swap them out with a different scent every couple weeks. That way they never get a chance to associate Mountain Meadows with the office because you swapped it out for Ocean Breeze.

And players past, present , and future.

Handicapped match, Bud is only allowed a stellar defense, an eh offense...

Wait are we talking about the game in September?

I agree. We could have won all of those games just as easily as we lost. We treaded the line all season. I have a lot more hope for this upcoming season then a lot of people. We do lose Logan but that is only a huge loss if the offense was going to be run the exact same way. I expect to see a relatively different scheme that takes advantage of some things that the team may not have been ready to do yet. Yes we will have a new quarterback but if the straight ahead running game can take the next step forward that will take a lot of pressure off of the quarterback.

It appears LSU has interviewed 4 candidates, including Grimes. So in theory we've got about a 75% chance of keeping him.

Hey LSU,
Piss Off
