Its night and day. Coach Fondue, while a laughing stock to us, doesn't have a record or history of leaving jobs after making commitments, abandoning a team, cheating on his wife, lying to his employer, etc. I think London is a good guy and, all joking aside, probably does a good job of teaching these kids how to be men. If it came down to London or Petrino, I wouldn't even blink before sending my son to learn under London.
could have been more complex vs need to be more complex?? Our whole Offense had to learn a playbook on the fly pretty much, why throw more at them then what they can handle. Also I remember hearing in an interview with Bud that they didn't have as much time to practice early in the year due to their schedule.

Al Golden, while he does coach for Miami and can seem off-putting, he seems like a stand-up guy. He took over a Temple team that was terrible on the field and terrible in the classroom. Temple was losing scholarships because of their terrible APR rate(or whatever that is) and totally changed the culture and improved the APR and graduation rates tremendously. Yes he does wear a suit and tie on the field and some arrogance that comes from coaching Miami, but everything I've heard about him is he's a class act.
Pretty simple valuation model I suspect. They basically took bottom line earnings from a program and gave it a multiple. That means that its basically tied to stadium ticket sales, tv revenue and alumni donations. Obviously huge alumini associations, big stadiums and the big SEC ESPN contracts are going to crowd the top.
What it doesn't seem to take into account are the intangible values - i.e., brand value of a program. I believe if you look at brand recognition that schools like Oregon, FSU and Miami (to name a few), they would be much higher on the list given the exposure, brand recognition, recruiting results and following those teams generate from the average fan.
Just a thought based upon how corporate valuations are approached. I suspect if this was done for basketball the ACC would be much better represented, especially if they looked at the brand of those schools.

Its a whole lot easier realizing every year isn't gonna be a national championship year when you're a skins fan like myself...... fact of the matter is being one of the new age fans who started paying attention to hokie football at the beginning of the Glennon era and it absolutely kills me to listen to some people who boo the team and demand anarchy and chaos thinking it will bring results. Patience my friends well be back. Learn from the redskins mistakes you can't build a champion overnight.
Also if these are really our down years I think that's as much of a sign as any that were a pretty damn good football team. Think how happy Florida fans would have been with 8 wins this year! You wanna talk a down year go find a Georgia or Florida fan. We'll be fine and we'll be back I'm glad to see that there are still sane VT fans out there
I agree that we do have the talent to beat UNCG and USC Upstate, but that's not saying really saying anything.
As far as JJ goes, I think he's out after next year. Barring a massive turn of events, even with a few decent recruits coming in next year, the team still has the look of a bottom-feeder in the league. I don't blame JJ for most of the problems as he was dealt a pretty poor hand. Coach K couldn't coach this team to more than a .500 season.
My biggest problem with JJ is him never playing his "brand" of basketball. I understand that the numbers are low and people have left, but how you can expect players to buy-in to you and your coaches as a staff when you repeatedly sit in front of the media and tell them that you just don't have a good enough team to play basketball how you would like to play it. How can you expect athletic, long, quick players that have great defensive potential to come to Virginia Tech when all they see is an average tempo game after game. I get that we can't press Syracuse, but why can't we press USC Upstate? Why can't we press teams that we are clearly better than, even if only to show our current players and future recruits that we actually mean it when we say we want to play an up-tempo, pressing, exciting brand of basketball?
Well, Atlanta is where we recruit (see Facyson) and for some reason, we've got a couple pipelines in Florida even though they break the 6 hour rule. Point still stands: we cover a lot of area and a lot of people within that 6 hours _ Florida. We haven't so much relaxed the recruiting rules as shifted the focus. We're going North (still within 6 hours) a whole lot more than we're going South.
He did finally put down a $2k bet on FSU at roughly even odds, so he still came away with extra cash.
