Seems more like a freshmen All American list than a sleeper list. I don't think anyone in the ACC is sleeping Kendall.
Where can I get some of that monster cheese? Sounds scary.
Eric's D lacked last year because he was gassed from being the entire offense. Even if they gave up more points, they still would have been competitive with a more up tempo offense. JJ has started to lean on the Greenberg stall ball 'offense' in order to keep games close. At this point it's all semantics anyway, just like arguing this years team would have a couple more wins with Malik or Rankin in the rotation.
The problem with the basketball program right now isn't a lack of heart, effort, or dedication. The problem is talent.
I agree there is a lack of talent, but even with the roster that is being fielded, you should never lose to UNCG, USC Upstate, and even this year Seton Hall should have been a win. Just watch a practice right now and you can tell the team has pretty much packed it in. Raines locker was cleaned out, Wood has a lackadaisical effort in practices, players are starting to bicker at each other and there really doesn't appear to be a clear leader most of the time. Barksdale is the best all around player and he is a "contributor" player, not a "star" player.
In order to start bringing higher quality players JJ is going to have to win with a scrappy team first, which he is having a difficult time doing right now. This was always going to be a barely scratch out 10 win season. Next year with this group of freshmen maturing and getting some depth at the guard spot, we should start to see some turn a round. If we don't then it may be time for the new AD to start looking at someone that can guide this program. We are never really going to land 5* recruits, so whoever the coach is, is going to have to learn how to win with fringe players in one of the better conferences.

Exactly. I actually remember reports saying a big reason he was fired was animosity towards Shapiro.
youll be happy to know that lee has been remodeled and is now actually nice (at least compared to the other traditional style dorms)
Not even saying who it is and then linking an ESPN article?
Y u do dis
Go Hokies! Ball-hawk U Baby!
Oh good. Also I see you're from Glen Allen. I'm right down the road in Hanover, aka Sam Rogers country.
I cant stay mad at you. Have a leg!
If Erick Green and Adam Smith had played together in our backcourt last year, we would have given up 100 points a game (I'll give you we may have won one or two more games, but I don't see it). The problem with the basketball program right now isn't a lack of heart, effort, or dedication. The problem is talent.
People can bring up that clearly something is off with the effort in offseason work/practice effort/chemistry, and they're probably right. Barksdale being suspended, Raines being in the doghouse, and Rankin leaving the team all point towards a problem in one or more of those areas. BUT, even if you have all 3 of those players playing full time, Virginia Tech still has a bottom-feeder in the ACC. Rankin and Devin Wilson (currently) aren't ACC caliber points guards. With time, and a lot of work on his jump shot, Wilson potentially could be. Barksdale is a decent contributor for an ACC-level team and Raines has been wildly inconsistent in his time here and while he has shown signs of hope, he has never proven himself to be anything more than a big body. With all of the attrition that has hit the program, regardless of effort or dedication to the team, there's just not enough talent in Blacksburg.
Ok I still lol'd at this one. Turkey Leg, sir!
Lets take away the football element out of all of this. In general how does your college selection process go? I'll be honest for me, I thought I wanted to go into Engineering, but didn't want to stay in state (SC). So i visited GT, NC State, and VT. From my visits I decided I didnt want to live in Atl (1st visit). 2nd visit was NC State, liked it, but didnt feel perfect. Got to VT , stepped out of the car and knew I was where I wanted to be. How is what this young man doing any different? Checking out schools, making sure he likes them and the people that will be around him. No, I don't fault him, I commend him. VT was my love, but we can't all feel the same about it.
Playing with a guy like Eric Green it absolutely would have been. Right now, there is no one on the roster with that much talent or dedication. Having a guy like Adam would have free'd up Green from triple teams and Will Johnston wouldn't have played nearly as much as he did last year. This team suffers a lot from tiny heart syndrome, which is the biggest reason I was more excited for women's basketball this year than men's. They have a shot at post season play, which is something the men's team is far from.
Still weird finger positioning...
THIS. Very well said.
If I were a recruit, damn straight I'd take my visits and what not, even if my mind was made up.
I feel like a hater when I think Logan should be/should have been a tight end. The guy gave it everything he had for Virginia Tech. He had offers to any school, and he chose Tech. The only way I would feel right about supporting Logan as a tight end in the NFL is if he decided to go for it. At this moment, he is mentally and physically preparing to be a QB. He deserves all of Hokie Nation's support.
It's too bad that Niko Thorpe kid is undersized. He looks like a hell of a player. Whip maybe? Or Sam Mills type MLB?
Hey at least we aren't Pennsylvania
I could be wrong but my understanding of his 'involvement' with the scandal was that he didn't want his players to interact with Shapiro...
I'm not supporting your bashing of NJ but... It's 'hear hear' ***
I kind of always saw Shannon as a pretty stand-up dude. I know he was involved in the Miami booster scandal but he always seemed to be about the right stuff. So it's surprising he would come together with such a lowlife as Petrino.

Only half of Georgia (Atlanta is practically right at 6 hours), and Florida's nowhere close. Only rural areas in northeast Bama, too, closest town with over ~10k population is Gadsden, a 6.5 hour drive from Blacksburg. Source: I've made the drive from Blacksburg to gulf coast Mississippi more times than I'd like to admit....
I think we've been relaxing our recruiting rules over the last couple years.
