So disapproving of the use of the word "gay" as a general insult is not okay? I've eliminated that from my list of insults because I think it's wrong that people use it as a generic insult. It implies that there is something inherently not-good about it. Imagine if people used an ethnicity that way. It would not be okay. Even if you just meant it as a "generic insult." This shouldn't either, and feeling that way does not make someone closed minded.

Sigh... people still want to argue this? Look, yes I agree with you that the word gay has definitely developed into a disparaging form. That was my whole point- was that it's used as an insult.

What you seem to be neglecting is that the word has also in conjunction with developing a pejorative context been developed to describe a certain lifestyle - and is most certainly used as an insult towards that lifestyle.

The simple fact of the matter is, if less people used that term as an insult, the happier everyone would be. It doesn't hurt you to stop, but it may hurt someone to use it. So why use it? Simply because you want to prove that you can say whatever you feel like?

the meaning of words is:

  1. totally dependent on the context in which they are used
  2. continually evolving

your definition of "gay" does not take either of those things into account. here is another definition of gay when used in the pejorative context:

When used with a derisive attitude (e.g. "that was so gay"), the word gay is pejorative. While retaining its other meanings, it has also acquired "a widespread current usage" amongst young people, as a general term of disparagement.[4][32] This pejorative usage has its origins in the late 1970s. Beginning in the 1980s and especially in the late 1990s, the usage as a generic insult became common among young people.[4]

maybe some people just aren't open-minded enough to appreciate alternate viewpoints ... such as the fact that the usage of the word gay has evolved over time. And don't even get me started on what has happened to the term for a small bundle of sticks!

Thanks for the share. I worked for Intramural Sports for 3 years and saw people knocked out from sports injuries but never from actual fighting/assault. Yeah I bet Pritchard was a whole other monster all together.

Basically it's where complete asshats going around punching random, unsuspecting people in the head in an attempt to knock them unconscious.

Can we by chance get a GIF of Josh Stanford waving his fingers "bring it on" style to Tim Harris after one of his boneheaded late hits? Was probably my favorite moment on Saturday.

I made a quick modification to your already excellent work:

Rogers' head on Jefferson Statue, holding Lunch Pail

I know Rogers isn't on the defense, but when I noticed that the scroll was shaped a little like a lunch pail, I couldn't resist.

Yes, I meant in any sport. Forgot about the bass fishing...well done.

No sweat. 1995 - 2000. Numerous. I worked at Wilco (progress and Main) and saw a girl knockout another girl straight up in front of the store. I had to call BPD and give a statement, even though I only saw the one punch and nothing else. Like what may have happened prior to that. The employees referred to that as Tyson vs Blood Green for a year.

Another time a friend of mine kept getting hard fouled in War Memorial. He told the guy, if you undercut me again, I'm gonna punch you in the face. The guy undercut him, and he punched him in the face, breaking his jaw. He got charged with malicious wounding and served three months of weekends in the Christiansburg Jail.

I saw a lot in my five years. And I stayed in Pritchard my freshman year when it was all male. I got even more stories from there.

I'm old enough to remember people saying we were sunk when Sharpless left. A lot of people were wondering if Bud could handle it on his own. Obviously he answered the bell nicely. I'm optimistic that a guy like Torrian Gray could step in fairly smoothly as he should be able to keep the db talent similar to what we've enjoyed for years and he's worked under Bud long enough to get the job done. The only way I see the ship sinking is Beamer leaving and the entire staff being overhauled. There are too many guys with the same mindset working towards the same goals for that.

Not that it means much, but all of the coaches are out recruiting this week, as stand up as our staff has been I doubt that is the case.

Guys I really really hope this doesn't mean that a coach is about to leave. How many times do you see something happen like this, then like a week later, a coach takes a job somehwhere else, I really hope this doesn't mean Bud or Torian is leaving.....If not why else would he be doing this.

2 things. First of all, he still might end up a Hokie. It's so long until signing day that we'll have plenty of time to recruit him again. Secondly, I don't worry about our DB recruiting. We always end up getting studs anyways. Whether that is Lewis or someone else, only time will tell.

yea but the one thing that's hard to replace is his size and physicality. They say he will have over 30 offers when is all said and done
