I must admit to having mixed feelings about Coach Mike London as well.
On the one hand, he is a terrible game-day coach with the clock-management skills of an epileptic timekeeper for roller-dirby on "DISCO!" night.
On the other, (shocker alert), he used to be a cop. One less cop = more doughnuts for me.
And everyone knows, one cannot make doughnut pie without doughnuts.
Don't you just hate that? It reminds me of the bullies when I was a kid. They find something that annoys you, and then do it all the time just to piss you off.
(Side note: I know it's all in good fun...doesn't mean it's not annoying.)

The article discussing the housing was stating the ideas that it's not just the jobs, it's the high turnover of it. The students of UVA, the UVA Healthcare System, UVA as a major employer, and then the Army as a huge employer on the northern end of town because of the NGIC, means that rent can be high since no one will be looking to own a home. Homes here tend to be made into apartments where they can bring in about 500 bucks per person per month in rent (on the lower end). It kind of forces those that live here long term into getting housing outside of Charlottesville, to actually work in Charlottesville.
As far as actual houses to buy, it's the history, prestige, and location of Albemarle that drives up the cost. A home in Waynesboro (just over the mountain) goes for about 300-500k less than a home here. If you don't mind a townhome (again, similar to NoVA), then you can get one for 250-400k, and they are pretty nice.
Concurring on that sentiment (as the team needs to win, not win 3-star recruits) and a turkey leg from the 404...

I don't think the above quote is the humor I'd like to see. It's not humor based on "bringing us together." It seems like it was intended to put someone down. I would argue that most "joking about our differences" is intended to make a joke about how someone else is different at that person's expense. The person you are joking about may very well not think it's funny.
Is it too much to ask for to ask someone to consider how they may make the person they're joking about feel if they tell the joke? I don't think it is, nor do I think considering someone else's feelings counts as "Political correctness" or "thought police".
Another example - and one that drives me nuts. I notice this all the time- people joke about things being "gay" and then they say, "Oh, not the homosexual gay". As if by saying that, it makes it okay? Gay has two definitions: either homosexuality, or lighthearted and carefree. By making those jokes you are saying this: there is a version of the word gay that is a bad thing. Either you think being lighthearted and carefree is a bad thing, or you think being homosexual is a bad thing. By joking around with the word gay, despite your repeated protests that it's not referring to the "homosexual gay", you are insisting over and over that being homosexual is a bad thing, or you are convinced that being lighthearted and carefree is a bad thing.
If you truly mean what you say, deep down, that you aren't referring to homosexuality being a bad thing when you use gay as a derogatory term, then why are you using the term gay as derogatory at all? There's nothing derogatory about it.
Your words have meaning. Think about them, before you say them. There is quite simply zero cost to you removing certain terms from your vocabulary. I assure you, you can still voice your displeasure over something you dislike without using the term "gay", and you will do so more accurately, and without offending another person or putting them down. You may want to defend your freedom to say whatever you want, and that's fine, you have that right. But if you can say whatever you want, would it really hurt you to say something that has a little more concern and consideration for those who may not feel the same way as you?
Just something to consider.
