I would be excited to potentially play UCLA who has been pretty good this year.
I would like to see mangus and coleman running back kicks and punts. They both have the elite speed to do so, much like roberts did.
With running backs reid, edmunds, caleb, williams and possibly mackenzie we can afford to have them running back kicks and contributing on special teams as well as inserting them for specific plays within the offense.
jmu grad here. you're absolutely right. its more about apartment parties in hburg than the bar scene. staunton has a better bar scene than harrisonburg does. 81 and the railroad never bothered me as much as the dog food smell when its cloudy.

Why does everyone think that Kiffin would "work" at LOLUVa? Given past history, he wouldn't be there long, and might actually somehow find a way to win a few games. Why would we as Hokie fans wish that upon them? I'm content giving my $5 donation to keep whatever coach they currently have that we repeatedly beat. Remeber: "Losing, it Grohs on you!" Now, "ML=More Losses." I don't want any parts of Kiffin there, just in case it does work.

While the line was by no means great, I feel we really suffered from our running backs being young and difficulty finding holes. I watched one play against uva where the hole was right next coleman, on the inside shoulder of the tackle and he flat missed the hole and ran into the tackle instead. I am hoping experience will greatly benefit our backs moving forward.

QB "offers" are weird, too. Take for instance Grayson Lambert. UVA will tell you he had an "Alabama offer." Well, maybe he did. Last summer while we were recruiting Jacob Parks and David Cornwell, both had "Bama offers" and both had to come to camp with three other QB's for Bama to select which one had a "committable offer." Cornwell got the nod and he went there. Parks then went to UGA's camp and got a "committable offer" and went there.
So we've seen Grayson Lambert. That doesn't look like a kid with a committable offer from Alabama. For Ford, I think he had an "offer" from VT but was told he was third on our list. When the other two guys went elsewhere, his offer became "committable" and he took it.
I agree I hope he stays there for ever.
We had the opportunity to add 30 more points this year on makeable FG.
I think that would have made a significant difference there.
Duke is a 13-10 loss on misses of 40 and 46. Their kicker makes 2 of over 50yds.
MD is a tie in regulation. VT missed FG of 34 yds.
Eric deserves incredible props for stepping in like he did.
Otherwise the score of that last game might have been 7-6, all other things being equal.

Two thoughts:
1. I'm going to take your word on Wilson. From what I saw of him in Brooklyn, he's in over his head. He's careless with the ball and overpenetrated multiple times. He lacks floor awareness in the transition game and is easily exposed when on defense. But, I did see a pass first guy. He reminded me of Erick Green as a freshman, when he sucked and we didn't have to play him because we had more experienced players on the court. But, instead of those 10 TO filled minutes EG gave us that year per game, Wilson is forced to give us 30+ minutes of turnover action. It's not his fault and I think he'll improve, but I'd really expect to see more Smith at PG in ACC play....even if it isn't his natural position. Wilson just looks too vulnerable against like-competition.
2. I'm frustrated with VT hoops for years that we let players get out of line such that they need disciplining. If you have to bench a player, you should't get lauded for that. That's a failure of the system if someone acts up to the point where you can't play them.
Possibly the younger guys are getting worn down because they're not used to the physicality of the college game?
Another class of hoo's leaves without knowing what its like to win. Another class of hokies leaves without tasting defeat.
Obviously they are bringing him back next year, but when his team ends up next season with a similar record, what happens then? And if they can him, what how many players transfer? I think it's only a matter of time before these kids start to see the light and realize he is taking that program right where it belongs, at the bottom.
I've only been to 'Hooville for a handful of Hokie beat downs, a wedding and a few concerts. The restaurant scene (and music scene, I would have to say) are certainly nicer. I've always told people it would be a very nice town if it was stripped of its douchiness. Upvoted for unnecessary down votes.
Not only is Ben not playing tonight, but neither is Adam Smith (strained calf) and from what I saw in practice, it looked like Eddie may have sprained an ankle, but I didn't watch the end of practice so he could be fine. This is definitely a game I would consider giving Wood some looks at the three just so don't have to overuse Will. Considering Rankin hasn't been at practice since before the season started and he wasn't even on the bench during the Thanksgiving week games, I think it's possible he doesn't play at all this year. Hopefully Ben and Smith get healthy, otherwise I don't know why JJ is going to do.
Also, I can definitely see JJ using Raines and JVZ at the same time and using Thompson and Barksdale to spell them. He used them together against some big teams last year. At the same time, with Thompson's inexperience, I could see him using Thompson with Raines and JVZ with Barksdale/Wood.
Charlottesville is a better town that Harrisonburg - and UVA's "grounds" are better than JMU. I-81 splits JMU's campus - PLUS there is a railroad track that cuts through the middle of campus. Brother and sis both went to JMU. Even they'll admit UVA "grounds" > JMU campus.
I'm still kicking myself for not getting to see VT play MSU. I need to do a better job of monitoring the schedule.
MSU has a severe little brother complex in this state. They whine when the football team is "slighted" (see: 2011 Sugar Bowl and their current rankings in the BCS), and have a Miami/ND/Alabama mentality when it comes to their basketball team (birthright to play in Final Four every year). Izzo is a great coach, but I can't stand a lot of their fans, including the sidewalk alumni.
Side note: I'm glad my wife doesn't read this as she's an MSU grad.
that's a good point, hadn't thought of that...I've always been pretty high on Grimes but when you look at it, O-line's worst 2 games came at the end of the year. Any intelligent thoughts as to why? I'm hoping for an answer other than the O-line simply regressed. I know UVA has a strong D-front but UMD doesn't.
Completely agree- Brother and Sister both went to JMU. Harrisonburg is an awful college town. JMU's campus is split by I-81. Downtown is practically non-existent- JMU students have house/block parties - there is not downtown option for them.
Jobs is a big part of it. More of them in Charlottesville, thus housing is more expensive. Also not as much available land in Albemarle, and the zoning is stricter than Montgomery.
Maybe so. But Blacksburg could try harder. It's basically chains and college bars and The Cellar.
I would like to think his arms are CG'd. It would make me feel more comfortable. Able to rest easy knowing that arms like that are not really out there. But then I remind myself those are Hokie arms, and Sam Rogers is their teammate. Then I smile, and laugh.....maniacally.
