I'm living in Charlottesville now. If there were a job that I could get in Blacksburg, I'd be there. The traffic in Cville is ridiculous, the drivers are crappy, etc. However, there are a lot more Hokies here that I thought moving to the area. The housing is ridiculous, too.
They had an article in the newspaper here a few months back that spoke of the median salary required to be able to afford a place here. The housing market here as far as pricing is concerned is on par with NoVA, but the COLA is matched at the rate of Harrisonburg.
This was my understanding as well. I have to say I like the fact that he doesn't care about fame and notoriety at all. He accepted the offer he wanted and he doesn't give a damn about anything other than that. That kind of attitude will do well in Blacksburg.

What makes a good college town?
Physical proximity of university to "town"? Adv BBG.
Collegiate "connection" of university to "town"? Huge Adv BBG
Restaurants? Huge adv CVL
Bars? College bars, BBG. Bar diversity, CVL.
Attractions not named football? Huge adv CVL.
Outdoorsy things to do? Push.
Proximity to bigger cities? Adv CVL.
I'd give Charlottesville a slight edge, but it can't be overstated how little Charlottesville cares about UVA sports. Part of that is at least 1/2 of CVL is full of non-UVA fans....probably 20% are VT fans and the other 30% are imports from other universities due to grad school or jobs in general. That doesn't happen in Blacksburg, nobody is there who isn't affiliated with VT. It's gotta be 95%.
But, damn, the restaurant situation in Charlottesville is good and is really, really awful in Blacksburg.
Yeah, what a dick. Also, in Blacksburg everything is possible. In the other town you are just a douche.

JMU has a prettier campus than UVA
I'm pretty sure he is a Michigan grad. Also if you look at the tweet he lived there when he was on the Hokies beat meaning he wasn't a college student. How you can evaluate the effectiveness of a college town by living there when you were NOT in fact IN said college, is beyond me.

Ive been to many campuses and both are at the top for similar reasons. My #1 will always be Blacksburg but Charlottesville is up there for the #2 spot ... but football changes everything and... well you get the picture....

Its because hes real, Harold said. When he comes to visit you, hes not going to show you the jersey, how many helmets we have and how many rings hes got (one from a 2008 FCS national championship with the University of Richmond). Hes not a flashy guy. He just keeps it real.
Umm, he doesn't HAVE anything to show. A 2008 FCS Championship ring to a FBS prospect might as well be a state HS championship ring. I hate London getting credit for things that he doesn't do in recruiting becausehe physically can't do them. Do you think any of the players consider that? Not a bold statement. I'd say fairly accurate. It was the mistakes that did us in, though. However, given the mistakes, it was almost an over-achievement just in the fight this team had all season. They never gave up.
The worst thing this season, in my mind, were just how many games we had one or two drives where everything clicked, but that was it. I hated seeing us drive down the field but not be able to get anything but field goals. I got to thinking how magical the team could have been when you see how WELL they played on certain drives, and then it's like they just forgot everything.
The other oddity, in my mind, is how little momentum seemed to matter with this team, either way, which can be good and bad. If the other team got momentum, they still fought. However, if we got momentum, we gave it up with stupid little mistakes that lead to big problems.

We did play our tails off (Saturday), Harold said. Im not going to point any fingers. Having a first-year freshman offensive tackle (Eric Smith) going against a fifth-year senior (Jimmy Gayle), its not easy.
Our T-Fr Offensive Tackle (Jonathan McLaughlin) has gone against multiple ends that are equal to or better than Gayle and it wasn't easy either. But you don't hear us making excuses...
Also, since when does James Gayle go by Jimmy in the media?
They keep telling me smart people go to UVA...
