Lets not forget the contingent of VT fans who were GLAD that we didn't have to face FSU. That is a joke; Duke winning an outright Coastal title is not.
If you are counting: Duke has 1 coastal title, Miami has ZERO, and hasn't finished higher than 3rd. THAT is a joke.
One more Sam observation. On the successful onside kick attempt, Sam was lined up right next to the kicker in the middle of the field - - This is not his normal position on the kickoff coverage unit.
When the ball was kicked, Sam flew downfield and didn't even try to recover the ball - - his only job was to detonate on the closest Hoo. He slightly whiffed, but if he got the Hoo squared up I swear he would have broken him - - the look in Sam's eyes was pure madness (as shown by the several replays) and I loved it.
Who is Mark Smith? Is he a well-known UVA alum or just someone who donates a lot?
The stress would kill me. If anyone has seen me watch the game, I am a surly nitpicking jerk while watching.
One more observation: When Lambert was in the game, our blitzing linebackers anticipated the snap count every single play. Trimble - - and to a lesser degree, Edwards - - were aggressively moving forward into the Guard / Center gaps before the snap.
It's the little things like this that make Bud and his defensive staff so good. Bud and Co obviously noticed on film that Lambert only had one snap cadence, and they sent the dogs out accordingly.
The only defense of Fairchild is that perhaps he knows that Watford doesn't have the instinct or the will to take the pounding he would need to take as a runner, but those runs were there.
Here is an example. After the deflected Logan Thomas INT, UVA had some momentum after getting a couple of first downs coming off their own goal line. Watford dropped back on a 3rd and 3 from mid field. The Hokies didn't keep a linebacker in the middle of the field (Tyler was covering crossing routes) and Dadi Nicolas got too far up field from his right end spot.
Watford had a clear running lane with his receivers in position to block if he chooses to go. He doesn't appear to have a receiver open. Instead, he throws a low percentage deep crossing route into triple coverage. Ultimately, your quarterback has to get the ball into the hands of playmakers, or be a playmaker. Perhaps Fairchild didn't think Watford could do either one, but it was clear quickly that his running ability made him more dangerous than Lambert. Foster certainly thought so, as he rarely blitzed Watford.
Guys...if UVA fires #HeadBallCop, it's obvious who will fall upwards to that coveted spot...

A VT grad would have examined the trajectory and such of the latest missed FG, placed the uprights 10 yards or so forward of their previous position. Then, they would expect an improved result.
What happens on field doesn't matter to UVA, its all about practice and off field. We talk'n bout Practice? Practice? Thankful that I'm not a Wahoo!
They would have to be interested in him as well. They could probably get him for cheap, and might be an upgrade, with his recruiting prowess.
