Any one of those match ups would be interesting.
I'd prefer to see less mobile QB play and more traditional drop backs with an RB, though. It seems we are kind of susceptible to getting gashed with a mobile QB.
I'm happy we are in a bowl, but honestly it means a hill of beans. I'd love to kick #2 from ATM in his hind parts, though. I really do dislike Johnny Noseball.

VT is 5-2 against Louisville. I don't think you can consider it a trap game because Louisville would be the favorite to win. In the scenario for the top 3 non-BCS ACC bowl games I would see VT as the underdog to Texas A&M, Louisville, or UCLA.
He must be ideal for what Loeffler wants to do. Seems to have really good vision. And what about his receiving corp, those guys made some plays our guys didn't make this year.
He looks even better when the staff utilizes him correctly (ie NOT up the middle on 3rd & 1+).
I'd rather the Chic-fil-A because I think the Louisville is a trap game. What is the overall record against them anyways?

It looks like he's chopping his feet like Peyton Manning does. He evaded a rush pretty effectively using that technique. Little steps help you get your feet set correctly.

Despite the tough loses, I've really enjoyed VT football this year. Maybe my enjoyment is due to the changes in the offensive staff, which had me looking forward to how the offensive improved week-to-week. Overall, I still think this team underachieved, but I do think VT made great strides in 2013.
This is what I learned:
1) Logan is an amazing athlete but only an average QB but much better than what he showed in 2012. He'll never be elite and will always struggle making the correct reads. Essentially, he's not good enough to make everyone better, but he can be really good in a great system.
2) Trey Edmunds got a lot better throughout the year. He made some really good reads and cuts against UVA. I hope he recovers quickly and gets back in the gym to get faster and stronger for 2014.
3) The O-line will no longer be the greatest weakness of team. I think the O-line with Edmunds will be great in 2014.
4) Those freshmen DBs were great this year. Hopefully, the backfield will be healthier in 2014.
5) VT will really miss the depth and experience of the front 7 in 2014. I really think VT will struggle to stop the run in 2014, especially against big RBs like Andre Williams. From current weights, VT will lose approximately 86 lbs with 5 new projected starters. And without a reliable 2-deep, I expect the front 7 to be gassed by the 4th quarter. I hope Bud and Wiles do their magic and prove me wrong, but I'm not confident in 2014's D.
I see returns on field goals every weekend and very rarely are they returned for touchdowns. That was the first one I've seen in a couple years. Those guys should have been able to make a play on the returner, especially considering Auburn went all out for the block with the 10 guys at the line. He barely even got touched on the play.
Watching sportcenter coverage of this...since it's all they want to talk about. Just reminds me something I've come to realize since moving to Alabama.
There is NOTHING to do in Alabama other than watch football.

I'm guessing Rogers will become the H-back, and will likely play a major role in the offense next year and beyond. He's too athletic, has great hands, and a real good blocker. Loeffler should be designing plays all off-season to get Rogers more touches.
I'm hoping that when Loeffler came in he saw the talent/experience on offense and decided he had to ride LT to win games. Beamer has said he wants his offense to look like the Stanford of the east and think the pressure will definitely be on to develop the run game. I'm hoping for Edmunds to come back healthy by the fall and for a great spring competition between Caleb, DJ Reid, Marshawn Williams, and JC Coleman (it looks like to me JC is at best a change of pace back).
In all I agree that 8 regular season wins meets expectations for the team but there were a lot of squandered chances. I Before the season I wouldn't think that VT would get to being ranked as high as top 15 during the year.
There's still the bowl game to hopefully get to 9 wins and I'm hoping VT plays against Louisville in the Russell Athletic Bowl. I think the bowl game will do a lot to determine feelings on the team.
It shouldn't be a shock. Hokies had to throw the ball and play hurry up much more last season as they were trailing in games more often than not.
The Hokies only had to pick up the pace against Maryland, BC, and Marshall. Against Duke, the Hokies didn't really stray from the gameplan. Against everyone else, Beamer tried to shorten the game. The numbers reflect that. The offense was much more efficient (fewer three and outs) this season. Red zone has to be a critical focus area. You can't trick other teams in the red zone.
Can't agree anymore. We have talent at rb but it's not there on the line. There is consistent lack of a push on the line for even short yardage. I don't know if we just lack size or strength.
I would imagine Grimes will have an open competition to become a starter on that O-line in the Spring and into next fall. I don't think any starter is safe. My prediction for next year's O-line:
McLaughlin-Farris-Wang-Smith/Osterloh/Benedict-Teller
Chung, Conte, and Willenbrock will all be competing hard as well. If Gibson can get it all together, he could be the best lineman on the team. Furthermore, Grimes recruited 5 O-linemen. I imagine all the new recruits will redshirt, but they'll just push the competition and make the O-line that much deeper. The future of the O-line is bright, and I think you'll see huge improvements in 2014. 2015 and beyond, VT will be back to bruising ACC D-lines.
I counted at least 7 times that the HooVision told Scott Stadium to get on their feet, so yeah
it did seem to energize the defense. at least watford could run, lambert was a deer in the headlights out there.
