Duke....is not JJs problem.
My risk/reward scenario would have better returns than the normal, I think. If we're talking about making a change.
The major problems when a long-term, successful coach leaves isn't the HC part. It's the entire staff being replaced. Making Bud the head coach would lessen that shock wave, unless other coaches in the staff couldn't bear the idea of working for him. The hard part would be the actual stepping down for HCFB - if he's not completely ready to go, it's a disaster. (See: State, Penn AND Florida)
Yeah, Iowa State didn't have a chance agianst OKst a few years ago. Neither did Utah against Stanford this year. Not sure how you can say this after we hung with Bama in the first game of the year. With a healthy defense we have a chance against anyone IMO.
It's cool. I knew going in that comment wouldn't play well with some people. I'm really new to this site, but it strikes me there are lots of 'my Hokies, right or wrong' types here that just don't want to hear the negative side of things, no matter how it's presented, or even if the 'negative' is pretty light. I didn't go after the team itself, I don't feel, but I just can't abide with using 'our loses are to bowl eligible teams' like it's some kind of badge of honor.
Our bowl streak is impressive - in fact, if Florida doesn't make one, we'd be the second-longest active streak now. But for ANY school with a pulse, putting together a decent streak just isn't as hard as it used to be. My freshman year, when dinosaurs walked the Earth (well, hair bands did, anyway), we went 9-2 and stayed home for the holidays. I think there were maybe 15-18 bowl games then.
I think we all can recognize that this change needs to be made ASAP
I think you're on to something there.
Tech's the first team to lose to Maryland, Boston College, and Duke in the same season since a 4-8 UVA team did it in 2010. What's funny is, that's also the year they beat #22 Miami and Mike London started to cry. Tech beat Miami this season as well, but Beamer didn't cry, thank goodness.
Either way, that's not the best company to be in.
Y'all are missing the big issue. I've noticed when Lefty is in the booth he often doesn't have a straw in his drink. This means that to get liquid refreshment he has to take his eye of the game for a split second. This causes him to miss important details. If he had a beer hat we would probably be undefeated.
Sadly, it's been a tough weekend for football for me. Even my son's pee wee football team lost in the semi's. Rough times, bro.
That reminds me of the time they hired a cop to be their football coach.
Regardless of previous years, it's hard to improve a team when you're being penalized for breaking rules that didn't exist.
Blame the Giants all you want, but your
cap miss handlings for the past 15 years under Snyder have killed your team.

The team's biggest problem right now is having to try and over-hull a completely terrible roster with 36 million dollars less than every other team because the Giants didn't like them.
haha yeah, i got some memorable voicemails after 03, and i would just say we werent offsides on the blocked kick.
if it happens this year i'll just have to tell them to savor the flavor, because its gonna be even longer till they taste it again.
You have to be kidding me? Your QB came back from a brutal knee injury way to soon and your defense has been suspect since last season. I mean you give up 3 first round draft picks to get your QB and then play him on a already hurt knee and then rush him back to the field. Way to protect your investment.
The Skins problems are an always will be Dan Snyder. He trades away all your picks and tries to supplement them with over paid FAs. The key to winning in the NFL is consistent good drafting and cutting bait with old vets at the right time. Washington has not been good at doing either in a very longtime. I can't even remember when the last time they had a full draft was.
The fact that UVA fans constantly try to defer to Olympic sports when trash talking football makes this that much sweeter
Can't hand out turkey legs to these kinds of posts.
+1
I'd like VT to get there, however they can.
Sure, we may get beat up by FSU, but what the hey.
Team/coaches/players get more experience, etc.
yup, from 7-0 to 12-19. it was a magical ride.
It ain't over til it's over....
1.We beat UVA, Duke loses, as said above, we're going to Charlotte.
2. Don't be quite so quick to dismiss our chances against FSU. Yes, they're pretty darn good. However, if we do indeed play to the level of our competition, then we should acquit ourselves very nicely.
3. We don't yet know the results of the whole Winston assault investigation. If he's charged with a felony, he's automatically suspended.
4. As a closing thought, I'd direct you to last year's FSU-VT game. One that we should have won, allowing a last minute TD pass to win it.

Honestly, after yesterday I really want Duke to go the the ACCCG. The Fighting Cutcliffe's deserve it after these past two seasons.
That hatred is called love.

If we choose to take the approach mentioned in the title of this thread we do not deserve to EVER win a national championship.
I don't care if this team has 0 losses or 4 losses. At the end of the day, any opportunity to play one of the best teams in America, any opportunity to hang up a championship banner of any kind is an opportunity I would refuse to turn down.
Better to have tried and failed than to never have tried at all.
