Thompson has a ton of potential, but he doesn't have a great offensive game yet. He's fun to watch because he can dunk, but unless he's dunking his offensive game isn't pretty. He's only a freshman so that'll hopefully change as he gets older, but for this year he's very limited.
Raines is our best player, I want to see him get the ball more and instead of just clearing out for him have some guys cutting to the basket. I feel like he's shooting with 2 guys on him every play.

All they need to do is lose to UNC and for Tech to beat UVA. The Wake game is completely irrelevant.
Couldn't agree with you anymore. I feel as if we are Florida State's kryptonite much like Clemson is ours. Our team was much worse last year and managed to have a very competitive game against a #10 FSU team. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if we played them in the ACC championship and made it a very close game. But that is the problem with our team, we can play up to our competition and also play down to them. Elite teams put away the teams they're supposed to beat convincingly. Only game of the season I was convinced we were a good team was Miami and GT. I think our team needs a change of culture, god bless what Frank Beamer has done for this football program but what worked for him in the 90s and early 2000s isn't working anymore. We can't keep having average or above average recruiting classes to compete with the best. The lack of play consistent offensive play makers on field is very evident and unless we don't recruit some of those we won't be competing with Florida State and Clemson anymore. Wont be long before Miami and their #3 recruiting class in the country dominate the coastal and VT becomes a distant memory unless serious culture changes get made.
I'm not saying recruiting is the reason we're losing, but it's definitely part of it. You're right that we got straight-up outplayed yesterday, but when you've got players who do not have the skillsets that the current coaches want, due to the fact that there was no attempt by the previous coaches to recruit to complementary strengths, you're bound to get beaten eventually. Cutcliffe is succeeding because he's realizing his vision after several years of poor play. His players are coming together and buying into his system. If we continue on our current trajectory (decent recruiting of needed players in certain positions), we are bound to improve.
That was a tough fall back to reality after riding the high of beating OK State (being at that game was a ton of fun) in Cassell.
yeah it seemed like no facet of our team (offense, defense, ST) really did well this game. we went from one of our more complete games to an overall lackluster game on all parts

this is why i like this community so much. i am actually cancelling my subscription on 247 because the amount of people who instantly want to blame someone (bench LT, fire coaches, etc.)
immediately after the game about 4-5 topics showed up about wanting to have Beamer move on and that we need a new coach to get back to being "big time"
maybe i am a bit more realistic but i knew we would probably be around 8-4 and anything would be icing on the cake. i also feel that we arent a "big time" program yet but we have the potential to be better than just a team who won 10+ games for a while
Valid point. Like I said, I didn't look much into it. I really do like your "big picture" mindset though for this season.
Please stop using recruiting as the reason were losing. Because teams that don't even have what we have are doing better than us. Let's just say we lost again to a better team yesterday.
I have so many thoughts. Yeah, I wrote an article about it at that other site, but here I also feel safe enough I can share my thoughts with the good folks at TKP.
Bud Foster was completely outcoached. That does not happen very often, but when it does, people will notice. As Andy said in his 5 thoughts blog today, mobile quarterbacks have given his defense fits all season long, and I'm sure that Bud was chewing through his gums when he watched the game film. I also think he made the adjustments too late in the game, roughly midway in 3rd quarter, when the defense began to peel back when C.J. Brown was about to break contain, and had two tacklers at ready to bring him down. But, in honesty, it was the most piss poor effort I have seen from the defense in a good while. Lack of sense of urgency was so plain on some plays.
One play that will stick in my mind the most is the C.J. Brown's first rushing touchdown. I don't have the film to back my assertion, but to see J.R. Collins taking a stroll back to the LOS, just in time to see Brown snap the ball and plow his way into the end zone was maddening.
The offense had an up and down day. Logan played it safe...maybe a bit tooooooo safe, but when the line collapses that fast, not even Tom Brady would have had time to get rid of the ball. That 3rd and 24 play was absolutely the most gutsiest call I have seen from Loeffler and that was a ballsy play by Thomas to deliver the ball to Knowles, who still makes me nervous every time the ball comes his way.
Special team is going to give us headaches for a while. A.J. Hughes should lock up All-ACC honors by the end of the season, but that's about as far as special team goes. Yeah, Knowles had that monstrous return (WHERE HAVE THAT BEEN ALL SEASON LONG!?) but outside of that, special team has been abysmal. But, I have to give ton of credit to Kristensen for playing. He deserves a pat on the back and an "Attaboy" from all of us. That's a tough situation to walk into, but he nailed that field goal attempt in overtime. That takes balls to do that.
I look forward to French's salty film review (his words, not mine) and Mason's film review. I'm not gonna like it, but it's good for the soul.
I'm just reading this post and it has a good point and so do you as well, but has Boise State had a top 25 class? I think the answer is no to that question. I think so many people make so much to do about talent and recruit rankings, when in reality its really about coaching up the players we have. So I'm not buying the we don't have talent to win consistently speech. I think we can accept that the coastal division has caught up with us were no longer winning push over games like Duke and BC. Now since the argument for talent is being used so much neither one of those teams recruit better than us so how did we lose to them? That's why i don't buy into the .''we don't have enough talent on offense or defense for that matter to win''. So i will say at the end of the day tip your hat to Maryland and others for beating us yesterday
After reading each post in this thread, how has everyone forgotten the season of payback? Odds may not be in our favor, but how great would it be to finally redeem ourselves for the 1999 National Championship Game and crush the championship hopes and dreams of FSU fans everywhere?
pretty sure we need duke to lose to UNC regardless of what they do against wake. We need to beat lolluva no matter what...if not for the potential opportunity of going to charlotte..we need to beat LOLUVA because as long as we beat LOLUVA our season will not be an utter failure...
Or if Duke were to some how completely not show up against Wake Forest... Highly improbable but still another ACCCG yielding scenario.
I want to play FSU because I want to play the best. Even if you assume that we would lose against them, then at the very least we would get to play the two best teams in college football this season, which definitely would help the team improve.
Also, we are far from out of it as long as we beat UVA. Yes this team is inconsistent, but our losses are against teams much better than UVA. Duke has to play away their next two games against teams that are decent and are hugely motivated to beat them. Duke is good, and could definitely run the table. But it won't be easy for them to.
yeah - good point. after the game Saturday, I concluded that our O line can't hang with a decent front 7 (UofM does NOT qualify) and that FSU would mop us. however, we can't have that attitude. with our defense, we can stay with anyone if the other facets of the game are hitting on all cylinders. that's how we knock off top 10 teams.

No, the fact of the matter is the owners allowed the league to have an uncapped year. Meaning there was no salary cap. The Redskins spent according to those rules.
A year after the fact, the rest of the league got together and decided they didn't like that, so they penalized them for breaking rules that did not exist. In the real world outside of the secluded fraternity of NFL owners, that's called collusion, and is against the law.
So yes, the Redskins in the past have been terrible with the cap. But I can still be upset for being penalized for not breaking any rules, in what should have been an illegal decision.
Everyone is talking like Bud will come in and get a national championship right off the bat. There is ZERO guarantee that he will even be able to match the success that CFB has had. I know he's a great coordinator, but that doesn't always promise success as a head coach.
Remember, plenty of teams have thought about Bud as a HC. Yet he's not one.

Come on. If half the league abused the uncapped year like the Skins and Cowbys did then, I can see how you would feel singled out. The fact of the matter is that the Skins and the Cowboys are the only teams that did so. Both teams poorly manage their cap, so it's not surprising. As long as Snyder and Jones are running their front offices, each team will never win anything special because they are to hands on.
How the hell are you guys talking about beating FSU? Has anyone watched our actual season? We are still discounting Duke even though they are better than us this year.
