Easily! They competed against Alabama, murdered Miami on the road, and have one of the best defenses in the country.
You seem to equate "unranked team" with "total crap." That's misguided. After watching Duke dismantle Miami today, I began to wonder if they've been severely underappreciated in the polls. Top-25 talent only forms a top-25 team when all elements of coaching are working well and when the players have been recruited to complement one another. Our offensive assistants were insufficient for years, so changes were made. That falls on Beamer in part, but not totally.

Let's take a moment to appreciate that 2 "down" years still include 7 (and hopefully more) wins. Each. Not total. That's not a bad deal. Let's give the man time to right the offensive ship with the new blood, both coaches and players, he's brought in.
Want to know what a down year REALLY looks like? Stanford, '06. 1 win (over a winless Washington team in the pillow fight of the century).
All of those games were winnable too. We only got blown out against lsu if I remember correctly.
can you show me the top 25 recruiting classes that we've pulled in over the last decade? I would be interested to see those players. Which ones are still here?

I also don't think Beamer can take us to the highest level, though. He got us to this level to compete, sure, but he can't take us higher.
I'm with you in your frustration, but I think it's partly because we just don't have an Evans, Suggs, Humes, etc.
I know Loeffler and Co. know a bit more about it than I do, and if we can't line it up and get 2 yards with any consistency, then we didn't earn the win.

And if you talked to those coaches, they would ask you for patience. These things don't happen that quickly. I know all everyone wants anymore is simply instant gratification, but you can't have it.
Frank Beamer's been around, though. No excuse for losing to 3 unranked teams in a season in your 27th season of coaching when you have top 25 talent.
I didn't compare this years team to those teams, I even said it in my post. It doesn't matter how new the players are, it's up to the coaches to get them ready. I dont care how you slice it.
We don't have the talent on offense to win every game and mask mistakes, its that simple. Looking back at how excited everyone was with the running game after beating Miami and putting up decent numbers; we now know that it wasn't offensive improvement, it was just one if the worst defenses in football. Duke piled up 358 total rushing yards on Miami today..so the coaches are not actually trying to lose nor are they trying to make the offense look bad. They are just young, not very deep, and lacking the talent to be more successful.
This is actually more of what I expected coming into this year with a new coach and a new system being implemented. Growing pains.
Unless you're tOSU.. (not to discredit what they're doing, but with the kind of recruits that they're pulling, coupled with their S.O.S... it shouldn't be much of a surprise at the success that they're having)

There are some plays that we'll throw out there that should never involve Coleman. We saw a few of them today.
Because if they convert those third downs, especially around their own 40 or so, we're in a whole world of trouble. If we had gotten a stop earlier, I bet Frank would have called them.
This is Frank Beamer we're talking about. He built this program from nothing into a national power. He's set the bar so high that we get upset after losses like this.
I'm as frustrated as anyone today, and during most of the losses you described over the years... but how many teams don't experience losses like that? It's football, that stuff happens. Should fsu have fired Jimbo Fisher, a much less proven coach, after losses to wake and nc state? If the higher ranked team always won there would be no point in playing the games.
Actually... There is one person who is much more frustrated than me... Frank beamer... and as long as we have a coach who wins a lot of games and I can trust is trying everything he possibly can to make our team better, I'm more than happy. Not to mention that, as many others have pointed out, our rebuilding years are better than what Alabama, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and now Florida are going through.
We haven't had our last great season with Beamer at the helm, that I'm sure of.
Beamer is the man, I'm grateful we have him.

# | Losing to Duke, BC, Maryland and maybe UVA in one season, changes ahead. How about using them on defensive stops with over a minute to go.
And 18 seconds with a freshman kicker? No question in the world that was the right call. SO much more can go wrong than right at that point. This isn't Xbox football, prevent defenses are actually fairly hard to beat.
In fairness, both did take a redshirt year as freshmen
Cut a massive check, convince your friends to do the same, and you will be part of the solution. As of right now, I have about $43 in my bank account, my my ability to help financially is limited. I'll just have to stick to supporting my team by wearing full body paint and a ridiculous (and ridiculously awesome) kilt to home games for now.
Miami's best win is over a Florida team with a losing record... I hate (and somewhat love) to say it, but once again Miami was ridiculously overrated. You're right about Alabama, but I also have to say that Alabama has played significantly better since the opener.
This is a good team. Not a great team.
