Not necessarily - the difficulties Logan has been having is because he's really the only experienced skill player on offense (at least coming into the season). You can play well with a talented, inexperienced QB if the rest of the team around him is good. For example, Logan's first season as a starter.
The UVA game is not a toss up. They are bad, really bad. Like ten times worse than Maryland. Could Tech lose? Yes. But I think it would take a breakdown from the defense and the offense turning the ball over a ton (which they are capable of doing.)
Read second paragraph, ignored the rest. Don't mean to be a jerk, but I'm thinking you'd better be careful what you wish for. How many programs would kill to have 7+ wins during a rebuilding year? To have the worst season in 20 years include 7 wins and a bowl victory and STILL get most of the offensive staff fired? Again, be careful what you wish for. There's not a whole lot separating a 3-win team from an 8- or 10-win team. Beamer has his faults, and he'll be the first to admit that I'm sure. But still, having a clean program that wins games (not every game, but a very solid majority), is pretty darn good in this day and age of college football. We'll see where we are in a couple years, but I see no reason to start bailing on the guy now.
Is Loeffler going to magically become a decent play caller between seasons?

You're right, the coaches didn't have the players ready at the start of the season. Because half of them were new. And they were trying to install systems and concepts that haven't existed at all under previous coaches. Comparing this team to the ones you mentioned is a little ridiculous.
Things aren't going to be pretty when you make such major coaching changes. In fact, I think it's impressive we're sitting at 7-4 right now.
But even if Leal is the best QB on the roster next year I mean imagine how awful our season will be. It's been said all year if Leal was better than LT3 he'd be starting. The blame on Logan this year has been insane and he deserves some of it, now we're going to start someone worse than him? It'll be a long season.

Lol a good portion of those top 10 losses were to the best team in the nation, aka the title winner. USC, LSU, Bama, Auburn (didn't lose, finished 3rd), FSU, Miami, and Nebraska (1 game cost them the title). It would have been nice to win 1 of those games and probably should had won two of them..
I wish I could give you a million turkey legs for this. I agree 100%. I think the problem is that the coaches don't get pissed after a loss like this. It's happened quite a few times under Beamer. We have lost some games that we should have never lost. I understand you can't win them all but we have dropped the ball a few times. I actually was watching highlights from the National title game against fsu and the sugar bowl against auburn last night. Amazing talent on both those teams and we came up short. Not saying this years team is talented as them because its def no comparison. I think this falls directly on the coaches for not having our players ready since the start of the season and it's continued up to this point. When you don't have the talent you have to coach them up its that simple.
I believe that if the coaches would get as upset as us fans do after a loss like this, I believe things would change. Until we get more talent I fear it will be the same mediocrity as these last two years.

When you start 5 freshmen on offense, things won't go smoothly all the time. We all knew Maryland had the potential to be dangerous, we all knew Miami was overrated and we all knew there would be bumps in the road this year. Very little has (or should have) come as a shock so far this season.
*EDIT* Just to touch on the defense, lots and lots of teams struggle against mobile QBs and read-option stuff, which is why it is so prevalent in college football. If we tackle better today, the result is likely much different. Can't expect 18 to 20-something year old kids to execute perfectly all the time. Crap happens.
*sigh*.... The lack of a running game didn't kill us today. 3rd downs did. We were 4/16 on third downs. A good amount of the time, we were in 3rd and short-ish (2-5 yards). But when you can't pick up a 3rd down either with the running game or because your QB is getting smacked as soon as he drops back, your offense is going nowhere. For the most part, I thought Loeffler called a good game. For whatever reason, we just didn't get the job done. Life lesson for today: sometime stuff just doesn't work. Deal with it, learn from it and move on.

Every team except USC, even the most storied programs in college football history, have a losing record against top-10 teams. Sure, we stand at 15% or so, which is bad, but I stand by my original statement that most programs fail against top-10. There's a reason for that.
I'd rather have a clean program that has consistently decent (10 wins + BCS would be more than decent) seasons. Alabama sucked for a lot of years, then had a bunch of wins vacated by the NCAA, and then yea Saban came in and has had continued success. He's a great coach. But I think Beamer is a great coach for a lot more reasons.
Could be. I'm proud Frank Beamer is our coach, and he's about as classy as it gets.
If only every coach in college football was Saban or Carroll. Every team would be undefeated each year. Except for UVA. Because they have a cop.
VT going in this scenario would be the most ACC thing ever:
Georgia Tech (5-3) is next, followed by Virginia Tech (4-3) and North Carolina (4-3). A very plausible scenario exists where the Hokies could backdoor their way into the ACC title game.
If Duke beats Wake, North Carolina beats Duke and Virginia Tech beats Virginia, there'd be a four-way tie in the Coastal between Georgia Tech, Duke, North Carolina and Virginia Tech. The Hokies would win that tiebreaker by virtue of a 2-1 record against the other three teams (GT is 2-1, UNC and Duke 1-2 in that scenario). VT would then win a head-to-head tiebreaker with Georgia Tech.
Even if Miami (3-3) wins out and is thrown into the mix in a five-way tie, it only enhances the Hokies' position, since Tech beat the 'Canes last week.
If it beats Virginia, Virginia Tech wins a three-way tie with Georgia Tech and Duke at 5-3 (better divisional record, since all three teams would be 1-1 against each other).
Virginia Tech would also win a four-way tiebreaker with Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Miami, provided Duke loses twice.
The tiebreaker the Hokies wouldn't win is a four-way that includes Miami, Georgia Tech and Duke. That would require Duke to lose to Wake Forest but beat North Carolina. Both VT and Duke would be 2-1 against the other three teams. Duke would then advance based on the Blue Devils' head-to-head win against the Hokies.
