Can we all just hug and remember that we will come back from this stronger like Beamer always has. If you think that there is anyone on this earth that Virginia Tech could currently hire that would do a better job than Beamer is I would like to hear the list. I mean realistically give me names of who you would replace him with. Im listening.
It is personal reasons. He has gone through a lot and just isn't ready to play right now. Anyone saying anything different doesn't know the issue.
After his kicks in today's game I though the same thing about his follow through. He looked to me like he sort of scooped the ball into the air on his foot and I would think a strong follow through would give it more power and and the look of a good kick. He looks good though and seemed to be able to consistently kick a ball straight for chip shots in at least, disregarding the missed field goal which was from a hash.
The simple fact you wouldn't line up and run the ball from the 1 on second down tells you all you need about the faith in the backs and oline. We still scored but that does nothing more than gloss over simple flaws with this team it's been that way all year.
Is Loeffler going to magically become a decent play caller between seasons?
So hypothetically how would you have called plays differently? I'll hang up and listen.

That said, that gif is absolutely hilarious and perfect for so many things. Such as Gene Chizik as a HC or our offense last year.
Nor is that talent evenly spread throughout the team. Right now, it seems to be more concentrated on the defensive side of the ball. The difference between this year and 2011, is there were talented players that could consistently make plays on both sides and the sum of their efforts offset the shortcomings that there were.

So what is your point? While those teams are traditionally (for the most part) not that great, they are pretty decent this year. You can't just go by name alone. If we had lost to Wake or NC State, then we have a huge problem. These teams will most likely finish with a winning record. Btw, 2 of the 3 have something we don't have: a National Championship.
Don't worry about the name on the front of the jersey, worry about how our team plays and the future.

I agree whole heartedly. If we make it to the ACCCG, we'd be lucky to get there, and then get curbed stomped my FSU. Just look how we've done against mediocre teams so far. Dook being the exception here because they've been playing better than anyone in the coastal for the most part IMO. We just cannot hang with FSU. They've been putting up Oregon type numbers against all of the ACC teams. Just have to accept the fact of how we are right now and hope to improve next year with the OC in charge. In Bud We Trust.
You're watching a mediocre football team with really high expectations of that team. So when they don't win every game, you think they're tanking. They just aren't that good. I'm sorry, I don't know what else to tell you.
A team that lost to duke Maryland and Boston college. Duke maybe a respectable win if they continue this run they are on. We show up against Miami and then lose to Maryland. I'm watching a team that doesn't want to win it seems like. Been seeing this team for the past two seasons.
I rather enjoyed the assertion that we'd be the ones to keep the SEC from falling.
I thought we did a good job of getting Edmunds touches, but those 3rd down conversions (or lack thereof) were killer. Him getting 5-8 yards doesn't do us any good if we can't get those last few to convert. If we do convert those, then we end up having a drive like we did at the end of the Miami game, with one running back chewing up 50+ yards. Just watching live, there were very few decisions today that left me scratching my head. I think we just didn't execute, for whatever reason. I'm definitely interested to see the film review(s) this week to see just where things went wrong.
Interesting: I think we are talking apples and oranges here. If I am understanding the OP correctly, he was talking about having more a commitment to the run game with Edmunds (using more of a power set I assume). With a RB appearing to be averaging around 4 yards a carry this game, leveraging Edmunds' skills sets to wear down the UMD D could have been pretty useful. They had little depth with injuries and it appeared we stepped away from something that was working with the run game. I will reserve judgement around how "effective" the OC is until next year or the following, but there were quite a few calls today that were "headscratch" calls which makes me wonder are we really leveraging our skill players to their greatest potential?
Yes, blocking kicks is huge. It swings momentum and can even win a game instantly (or keep one alive, as against Marshall). But no coach in his right mind would ever go into a situation thinking, "It's alright. If they kick a field goal we'll just block it." It can have as much to do with luck as with skill (blown assignments, a DT putting his hand in the right spot at the right time, etc).
I agree. And no one can really point a finger at inconsistency, because you don't know what happens at practice, in the locker room, in the players' minds, the coaches' minds, etc. I just think these coaches should know how to deal with inconsistency more effectively than what we've seen as Hokie fans in the last 12 or so years.
Did you forget that in 2008 when we had to win the ACCCG and the Orange Bowl to get to 10 wins? It's not like we were 10-2 every single one of those seasons in addition to the ACCCG and bowl games.

What, like blocking the kick during the Marshall game doesn't matter? Again, this is a result of poor recruiting in prior years. The lack of talent in the starters means the special teams players and backups are even less talented.

I agree, it's not impossible, but it certainly isn't simple. It's going to be hard enough for VT to rebuild and yet from some of the comments it seems like we're supposed to be a top team right now. It will be a couple more years before we develop enough talent in a coherent system.

Just being a devils advocate but the Boston Red Sox went from worst to first this past year. Hell look at Auburn for something a little closer. I agree with you but saying it can't be done isn't true either.
I'm not trying to be a pessimist, but a realist we just do not match up with FSU, and to help with the stigma that the ACC has in football. I just personally see that FSU is too talented for us to match up.

Those guys work their asses off for us, the fan, to sit, watch, and hopefully have a great year. Frank Beamer had his first day off a few weeks ago and Shane tweeted a pic of the two of them going on a recruiting trip. These coaches and players work so hard, day in and day out. I would not doubt their effort.
