Yup. And then once they were freed they dispersed through the Caribbean, but mainly to Trinidad and Tobago. I do have to wonder why they would choose Indian slaves though. We are hands down the least athletic race in the world.

Dang TFF, you had to go and do it. You had to mention the 1940 National Championship. We have a long standing tradition not to discuss NCAA football national championships in the Hokiediver household, which goes back to 1985 and date #1 with the to be MRS HD.
Mrs. HD: So where did you go to college?
Me: Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (or as we called it back then, The University of New Jersey - Southern Extension
Mrs. HD: Where's that?
Me: Blacksburg, VA
Mrs HD: Like I said, where's that?
Thinking I should refocus the conversation I asked: So where did you go to school?
Mrs HD: I'm a University of Minnesota Golden Gopher
Me (with a snicker): So what the hell is a golden gopher?
Mrs HD: It's a cute furry critter that's won 7 football National championship's including 1940 when those fake maroon and gold BC Beagles think they won it. And anyway, what's your mascot and how many national championships has VP whatever won?
Me: We're the Fighting Gobblers! And, uh, none.
Mrs HD simply laughed and me being a smart graduate of VPI&SU seeing that Mrs HD was a smoking hot golden gopher did the calculation in my head and decided to shut-up!
So we don't ever bring up 1940, or the other 6 football championships, or the other 20 non football championships they have won. Of course there is Bass Fishing..... Nope, I think I'll just keep my mouth shut!
There is a postscript to the story. Date #2 (see shutting up was smart) started out like this:
Mrs HD; So I went home last night and booted up my new Hewitt Packard 8086 dual floppy drive personal computer and using my high speed, 1200-baud Hayes Smartmodem 1200A connected to the ARPANET Computer Science Network and did some research.
Me: And.....
Mrs HD: So do "they" do the "snip snip" thing to ALL Fighting Gobblers to turn them into Hokies.....
So remembering back to freshman year and the detailed engineering drawings in the bathroom stalls of West Pitchard about a long cylinder, a slot, and a general thrust equation (i think it was F = (m dot * V)e - (m dot * V)0 + (pe - p0) * Ae ), I of course responded there is only one way to be truly sure......
So, win, lose, or draw, it's always a great day to be a Hokie (especially when you score...a lot)

Even if Beamer retires from active coaching, Bud sticks around (oh for the love of all that is good and holy, please) and Beamer assumes his role as special assistant to the AD (which is in his contract now) and continues his legacy, albeit from a bit of a distance.
My family and I (6 of us) stay off of 72 near MooresMille just east of Huntsville. I know where Cullman is. North Huntsville has a VT alumni association (https://www.facebook.com/VirginiaTechAlumniNorthAlabamaChapter) check it out.

Bingo. We may not have a decent offensive line until 2015, and Ford will be a R-Fr at that point in time. I'm personally not in favor of getting our prize QB recruit dinged up in his true freshman year just because some folks want him to play right away.
Yes, Ford is a very good QB as a senior in high school, but he needs a year to get used to the speed of the college game, especially playing against college seniors who may be much bigger, faster, and stronger than anything he's seen at the high school level.

I feel like they're recruiting was going to legitimize them regardless, based on location alone. If anything I feel like this exposure will keep us relevant in the 757.
That's why I was saying people need to self moderate. I wasn't defending him using the phrase, but I just didn't think Chachi was condoning it either. People are always going to get offended about something, which is why I don't see why him telling the original commenter to cool it was such a bad thing. Some people are just more thick skinned than others which is what the "tough old bird" phrasing was used for. I think this site is the most welcoming site around that I know of, which is why I felt compelled to say something. I would say delete the original comment since you have the authority rather than having this guy potentially getting banned (because he is going to get downvoted for sure) for posting a dumb comment that could be an outlier compared to his regular post.
Not wanting to start a war over which segment of the population everyone feels the most ok using as a derogation, but you would never refer to GT as "Georgia Black." So expand your sphere of empathy a bit and don't use "uvgay."
We'll need a good O-line for Ford to succeed. Otherwise a more athletic qb will win out.
Well by then, ODU will be FBS. So if you're going to play a cupcake, play an FBS cupcake that is in state and all of a sudden you have a huge recruiting push. Florida makes a living doing it. Texas schools do too, so why not? Better than an FCS team so I say go for it.
I expect a matchup similar to Pitt - a hard-nosed battle in overcast weather. Nothing flashy.
