I think my favorite was the B2 Stealth Bomber....I was standing near the top of East and I just remember the whole stadium falling eerily quiet as it flew over silently. Then an explosion of cheering after it passed over. It was awesome!!!

I'm an eternal optimist, and generally trust in coach Beamer to put our best chance to win out on the field: players, scheme, flow of the game. There's been few times I've disagreed (Danny Coale fake punt), but I'm definitely in the minority when it comes to not constantly talking down our offensive scheme.

The NFL and CFB have been trending towards more passing and spread schemes, which goes against my Nebraska-raised core and grates tons of VT fans who want our team to do the same (Oregon, Baylor, etc). That said, I don't know quite enough football to make them think Frank and co. actually do know how football works.

1. What are the keys to beating a spread offense? I don't have a field's view instant replay to distinguish open receivers due to scheme or teleportation, or why it might fail.

2. What kind of long term changes (not player scheme fit) would adopting a spread offense cause? I've always figured we'd have to take more offensive and less defensive recruits, and I wouldn't accept sacrificing our defense for offense, but would it be that bad either? I also figure it puts a higher strain on needing dynamite QB recruits and avoiding QB injuries at all costs, but maybe I'm over thinking it.

3. Why should I drink the kool-aid that the spread is inevitable and all other attempts at offense are simply wasted efficiency?

That's great and all; but we really need a flux capacitor for this makeshift DeLorean. There's no other way to travel back in time and convince Mr. and Mrs. Fuller to have more kids.

Still not enough recognition. This family needs to be on the front cover of ESPN's and Sports Illustrated's magazines. Someone make that happen.

Yeah, sometimes I wonder if they realize how many fans wish their teams worst season in two decades was a bowl win and sweeping changes to address the problems that led to it.

I would feel confident with a guess of 1.

How do you remember that after all these years?! I could barely remember all those combos when I was playing it frequently.

Free for anyone to use as they like. I'm honored. Enjoy!

Look at the class act CFB is.
He turns a situation where another coach would be pissing up a storm into a comment like this

Beamer said he was going to try to get clarification from ACC coordinator of football officiating Doug Rhoads about the Duke punt that was originally ruled a touchback, then changed to be down at the 1-yard line.
I dont understand how a guy out of bounds could affect the play inbounds, Beamer said. But they seemed very sure that that was the rule. But that was a new one on me. They taught me something and Ive been around it a long time. But they taught me something there.

I hope you don't mind, but my phone has a new wallpaper now.

I would rather have Loeffler tell it as he see it than to hear, "We were one catch away from winning the game...we were one block away from winning the game...dur, I don't second guess myself...Um, I can't answer that because that's too big for my mind to understand...what is Y stick route? I have never heard of it...oooh, pretty crayons..."

One thing about Loeffler that endeared me to him is his obsession to details. Know who else is like that on the staff? Oh let me count the way. Bud Foster. Torrian Gray. Charley Wiles. Aaron Moorehead (his ripping of the wide receivers during the August 16th public scrimmage ring any bell?). Jeff Grimes.

I'm not sure if Shane Beamer is like that, but I'm willing to wait for a bit longer to evaluate. Ditto for Stiney as the tight end coach.

If you have not paid attention during the season, Loeffler wasn't shy about letting the media know he had gotten into Logan's ears about missing checkdowns or not looking hard enough to find an open receiver. In fact, I distinctly remember Loeffler marching up to Mark Leal during a scrimmage and pointed out he missed a wide open Perez-Means, I believe, and Leal isn't safe from Loeffler's criticism. That's the mark of a good teacher.

Something we did not have for a good while, on the offensive side of the ball, that is.

IDK, but I saw a kid today with a Duke hat on in Walmart here in Alabama, so I smoked him with a trident.

Well said.

I think that some of us have gotten spoiled with the 10-wins season, forgiving the ugly offense under Stinespring because we won more games than we lost. But, to a degree, there's a bit of panic in the fan base, which is understandable because we are not used to seeing this type of loss to school that is known more for it's gigantic basketball program. I give Cutcliffe ton of credit for the job he has done at Duke and not bending the academic requirements to get the players to fit the system there. He is truly a class act, and he was, to be quite honest, due for a major signature win, even if it was at our expense.

However, during the span of 10-wins season, we have seen slip up against teams (which was documented here), and found a way to bounce back. Am I saying that the Hokies will repeat the formula of the past? Honestly, I don't know. That's one reason I have repeatedly said on Twitter that every game is a test and I have kept my expectation low.

Does the loss hurt? Absolutely. Is it time to mash the panic button? Unless you are one of those fickle bandwagon fan, no. Does that mean we just gloss over the loss to Duke? Heck no. Otherwise, we wouldn't be the obsessed fans of Hokies Nation without that. :)
