As many others had done, I pegged the BC game as our trap game. After this Duke game, I have high hopes for some signs of life on offense again BC. I too am getting excited. A win against BC and we can start to forget what happened this passed weekend.

I'm tickled you consider me a coach, but I'll take it. And yes, the recruiting class of offensive skill players we currently have, plus a couple more of our final targets, if they'll pull the trigger for the good guys, will help immensely. Add to that the Fab 5 (and possibly Sexy 6, yes I just made that up), and you see 2 things. 1, as I believe Joe has pointed out, there ain't a whole lotta talent for the coaches to work with in Blacksburg and 2, they're trying like you wouldn't believe to get said talent into Blacksburg. I'm excited to see where this team can go once the cupboard's restocked.

I note that Kendall is now tied for the lead nationally for INT.
Fascyon was earlier with 4 IIRC.

How many different guys has VT had hold the national lead for INT in 1 season?

I'm so thankful for thekeyplay. I have read articles on here for years, but never thought of joining. Being down in South Cacalacky now, I am a long way from the VT fanbase. When I lived in Virginia, every workday was filled with hokie talk. This site has become my home away from home and I appreciate how intelligent the posts are. Like others have said, I watch Hokie Football in a whole new way since joining. I look forward to sharing many more wins and crying with you all in (hopefully fewer) losses. So happy to be here.

Well, the defense is doing the job of forcing the turnovers. As for the kickoff and punt returns, one of the problems we have with using a TV feed for film, it is difficult to identify where the blocking weaknesses are. However, the players aligned on the gunners on punt returns have done a terrible job of holding those guys up, and on kick returns the deep returner who does not catch the kick has been pretty feeble lead blocking for his partner.

I have no idea why Thomas called a timeout, but it was startling to see him mouth off at Knowles like that. I guess that's the meaner version of Thomas we have heard about in the offseason. I do remember Tyrod calling a timeout one game and he was screaming at the offensive line, pointing to his ears, and Beamer had the "Wut? What's the matter?" look on his face as Tyrod was approaching the sideline.

Again, I may be just blowing things out of proportion here, but it was startling since he is such an easy-going, laid-back guy.

So, what's everyone's favorite flyover?

The B-1B is mine

also having defenses scared of david wilson didnt hurt the passing game either

Thanks for your years of dedication and over-the-top fandom. I always love seeing the people that go all-out on game day in whatever costume, body paint, hair dye, etc. that they come up with. Hopefully you've got many great memories of being The Hokie Joker to take with you forever.

I find myself writing comments and then deciding not to post them usually based on these topics. You have to look big picture here. I am a redskins fan and this season is rough...but what do you expect when you are 36 million short because of the NFL, half the team are backups at best in another franchise, and the star QB rehabbed the entire offseason and had no chance to continue learning progressions, learning correct mechanics and learning an ever evolving offensive system. Everyone is calling for the staff to be fired, but guess what..this year they should have about 40 million to spend, and I am excited for next season.

As many have said, if we are still struggling in 4 years when Loeffler has had the opportunity to recruit his own players, coach them and install his system, then fine--go ahead. But this is literally the 8th game of his first season with a group of players that only have a few players with experience.

Everyone wants the past seasons' success (redskins fans were spoiled last year, and surprised) but there are factors every year that have to be taken into account. Patience here.

I think we're lucky in that no one thought to use Duke's defensive strategy before now. One of the goals of any defensive strategy is 'make the opponent's offense one-dimensional.' Well, we ARE one-dimensional already and that dimension is the short to midrange passing game. When Duke took that away early on, it not only challenged Logan to adjust his reads, it challenged Loeffler to lean on the running game. Duke made the right call.

Just some insight as to Kicker practiceThe kickers at VT spend about 30 minutes at Lane kicking (not sur show much but i digress since I am usually on the practice fields). After that they sit around in the middle of the practice fields unless the team is doing pride and joy (obviously special teams) most of this time is spent with the punting unit and kick return unit. The only time I've seen Journell attempt a kick on the practice field is during the two minute drill. Other then that Journell and the rest of the kickers don't get too much practice time compared to the rest of the team (about 2.5 hours). Most of the time as I've said they sit in the middle of the practice field drinking gatorade after they practice for about 30 minutes.

Point of correction if I must:
Lanier was a TE at Dorman High School, just up the road from me. He was 6'4" and a skinny 230ish lbs as a senior in high school.
