The orange jersey's are not at fault. The orange pants are.
I've never understood why they fired Groh.
Also, yeah. Yeah, I know a lot of those fans too. I went to highschool with a bunch of them. The weird part is I went to Blacksburg High.
Better play: Give the ball to Hopkins.
"in the same area of the field"
are you talking about the triangles? I thought that was supposed to make it harder to defend. If so, is it a coverage mismatch?
I didn't see Bruce play at Virginia Tech. So I can't include him.
When we wear all orange, we pull Clemsons.
I'm on board.
I remember our last loss to UVA.
It was 2003, and Matt Schaub's senior year. It was a one-score lead for them late in the game when Groh and his minons converted a fake field goal to seal the game. That's when I got a phone call from my best friend, a UVA grad, who called to rub it in. Real classy of him.
You don't want to see UVA beat Tech.
All the UVA closet football fans will come out from under their rocks and taunt, tease and tout like you wouldn't think possible. There are 100,000+ UVA fans in Virginia (mostly in hiding) and they will desend on Tech fans like a plague of vermin the second their football team ends this historic winning streak.
Case of locking the barn after the horses have already been horse-jacked...along with their treadmills.
I could've have told Frank this before the game. Too much orange upsets the balance.
no bruce smith?
While I think they've done a decent job making orange components look good the last few years, all orange should never happen & I'd still prefer maroon & white with orange highlights all the time.
I understand your confusion at my seemingly contradictory statements. Those lines, looking from the outside don't make sense together, but there is much more to it.
LT is our best chance to win because of his drive, physicality and leadership more so than his skill at the position. We've been recruiting 'athletes' as quarterbacks instead of 'quarterbacks' for some time.
I would argue that he is AN issue..not THE issue. Our offense is severely broken. There are a plethora of problems and LT3 is one of them. But he's what we've got as a QB and a leader at the moment and the coaches are starting him so they must think he's the best option. I think we'll be in better shape when we have Andrew Ford and a solid O-line to go along with some stud receivers and a stable of backs.
I agree with you that we can't know if badLT is better or worse than Leal (let's hope the latter). For argument's sake, lets assume that GoodLT > Leal > BadLT
The coaches have to start LT assuming GoodLT will show up instead of BadLT. They're putting themselves in a bit of a conundrum though by risking the appearance of BadLT. What would happen to LT's psyche if he's benched in favor of Leal during a game? Would that disrupt his confidence enough that we may not see GoodLT again for the rest of the season? Is it worth the risk?
Once you start asking yourself those questions, you realize that it might not be worth it to risk losing GoodLT indefinitely in favor of Leal for one game. If GoodLT > Leal > BadLT and you risk losing GoodLT for good then we're in worse shape theoretically. What would happen if BadLeal showed up?
I guess what I'm trying to say is that we can't afford to lose GoodLT, so we just have to stick with LT through thick and thin for the whole season and just hope that he shows up every game. I'd say with a 6-2 record, he shows up more often than not. I'll take that.
Is he our ONLY chance to win as I said before. Perhaps not. Is he the undisputed leader of this offense? I think so. And I want the leader of the team on the field as much as possible.
I think they would have every problem they have now, and you would lose the ability to pound Logan inside.
Brown-Price-Hopkins-Engleberger
Anderson-Hall-Adibi
Flowers-Williams
Willie Pile-Kieon Carpenter
Please don't be so ignorant. Trust me, he is not doing his absolute best to help the team win. I'm not going to shit on him because he is doing exactly what I would do in his situation (enjoy his college experience), but don't just assume he's doing the most to help us win strictly because he's a Hokie. And before you call me out, we have mutual friends so I do know a little more about him than most.
Who would be on your "all-time" VT defense?
How awful of an idea would it be to bench LT for Mark Leal?
Sounds like a magical, magical place.
I may have used too strong of a phrase when I said we stand no chance with LT off the field. You're right that we can't know for sure. I'm confident that when LT is on, he's a better option than Leal and that is why he starts. When LT is off, who really knows? Leal is hopefully better than LT was on Saturday, but the coaches don't count on LT being off like that very often. Risk/Reward.
Random thought, where the heck has chris mangus gone? is he injured? Definitely think he is more of a threat than most of our players on offense, atleast in big play capability.
First off, I appreciate the detailed, informative response Joe. Also, can you ask French to answer my question on the other thread about Jarrett. I think it was a good question. I digress....
I defer to the coaches. The reality is they watch practice, they're more invested, and they want to win more than any of us.
I agree with you on that. There's no way to deny that, but that wasn't really my point. My point when I said, "There's really no way of knowing that" wasn't to say that Logan doesn't give us the best chance or even to say that Leal should start moving forward. I'm just saying that after we saw what we saw Saturday, it's such a strong statement to say we have no chance if Leal plays. As French said, the line played well, Edmunds and the receivers were ok, but we couldn't get anything going because of our quarterback. So in hindsight, to say Leal gave us zero chance was just kind of extreme fanboy. Maybe I'm just making too much of the statement.
But while I'm here, here's my stance on Logan. I'm brutally honest about him (not a hater, at all) but I don't want to bench him right now and I haven't wanted him benched at all this season. I don't want Leal to start and I don't think that he would give us the best chance to win consistently. However, Logan is so inconsistent that I've never been more confused about a player in my life. Sometimes I love him, sometimes I can't stand him. And when I can't stand him, I really can't fucking stand him. Nonetheless I haven't wanted and don't want him benched, because I'm just as unsure about Leal as everyone else is. I want Logan to be our starter Saturday against bc but I want good Logan, not bad Logan, and definitely not horrendous Logan (all three exist). If bad Logan shows up in chestnut hill and doesn't get his shit together by halftime, then yes I want to see Leal. I think he's let us down enough times to justify that statement.
And lastly, my anti-LT comments (aka LT hate) don't come from a Mark Leal truther point of view. I'm usually just responding to something that I can't believe was said in defense of Logan. Not in a troll way, but in a lets-be-honest-here kind of way.
This! I hated O'Cain and Newsome far more than I hate Stiney. I was so glad when they were let go, I think a trained chimp would have been an improvement for both of them.
Chad Morris learned everything from Gus Malzanh and Art Briles, but yea, he's doing a pretty good job on his own.
What did happen to Allegretta? There hasn't been a single interview with him on HokieSports since the debacle of the leaked film in preseason. Anyone know?
Duke. I can't remember a great season since 1999 that VT has had without a terrible loss on it's schedule. VT now has that loss out of the way and it is time to win the ACC for the typical #goACC moment.
Maybe one day, VT will become elite and not have that let-down game. Until then, let's lose to Duke, it's no worse than UNC, NC State, JMU, BC, ECU, Pitt, Cincy, and the list goes on and on. Hell, the UVA loss 9 years ago was terrible. It's actually probably easier to name the bad teams VT hasn't lost to: UMD, WF.

He was in on a couple of snaps. I agree though. Everytime he came in all I could think was "Okay, sweet, some good shit is about to happen."
I rank our RBs like this: Edmunds, Mangus, Coleman, Caleb. I haven't seen anything out of Caleb that seems exceptional. To be fair, the same goes for Coleman, but he certainly seems to have a play your nuts off factor. Mangus is clearly super talented. Edmunds is super talented and plays his nuts off.
