Call me a 'hater' all you want, but let's be real here, he's a 5th year senior playing like a true freshman... inaccurate throws, throwing into coverage... 0 touchdowns, 4 interceptions
after witnessing what I just watched all I can ask for is win against UVA...that would be nice
You are 100% right...this season is far from over...there is no doubt we are the better team. However, the only statistics that matter to me are wins and losses and we lost. My point is Logan is not a reliable Quarterback throwing picks like he does. With the way the defense played (as always) we should have had no problem with this game. Blame Logan, blame Loeffler, blame Beamer for all I care. This was a LET DOWN. And now that I think about it maybe we should blame ourselves for thinking we were more than we actually are.
I FREAKING knew the first thing Beamer was going to say was, "Gotta give them credit
Wtf. I'm tired of hearing that. I'm DONE with hearing that.
Rusty?
Really? That's the explanation we are going with here?
No. He was awful. 100 yards of rushing? That's nice and all. I'd have preferred half that and a read option game that doesn't rely on a mental coin-flip by the QB that got at least half his yards after contact close to the LOS.
Maybe the film breakdown will prove me wrong, but his choices left a lot of yards on the field, where the RB had room to run.
I hear what you're saying and I'm on board.
But some minor setbacks should never happen. Ever.
As badly as it stings, we weren't in the MNC picture anyway. Win out, take the Coastal, and SMASH BUTTHOLES IN THE ACCCG
Why on earth did we abandon running plays like the zone stretch once we cut the lead to 6 with all that time left? Trey had the Duke defense's number for a bit. Where were the spread formations with designed LT runs or at least a run/pass option? I saw HUGE holes for Logan to take off on many passing plays throughout the game. Logan's timing, precision, touch, and vision are still lacking quite a bit if he is to play quarterback at the next level. I mean I give Duke some credit here, but LT was awful against the BLUE DEVIL secondary (and yes I know they have an All ACC corner). The guy forces it in to coverage, struggles to quickly go through progressions, and locate his open reads. Tough loss to swallow considering the strength of the defensive performance and the overall dominance in TOP and yardage. You HAVE to think if we have a qb who doesn't turn the ball over and/or a decent kicker in this one we come out on top. Yikes.
For all the LT 3 haters out there he still had 300 Yards of offense 214 yards throwing and 101 yards rushing. He was rusty and made bad throws and reads the four ints show this but he was still our leading rusher and he completed 21 out of 38 attempts.
Dukes QB Boone for comparison had only 151 yards of offense 107 yards throwing and 44 yards rushing. He was his teams leading rusher and also threw four ints and only completed 7 out of 26 throws.
Statistically the better team lost today. I know that means nothing but it is a long season and we can still make it to the ACCG if we win out.
D played well, some of the offense played well. I do wonder if the hype got to these guys. I don't think Lefty called a bad game, as some of those plays would have been a TD or big play rather than int. lesson learned and hopefully humbled. We carry on, we still have an ACC champ game to get to.
Three of his four interceptions were just awful decisions. He missed a lot of other plays as well, not just on those interceptions. Regardless, his play today lost them the game, despite the missed FG. He needs to take responsibility for that, and work to not let it happen again.
I lost faith in Cody long ago. Now it's down right inexcusable for him to start.
logan sucked, but journell....what has he done to jump in beamers pocket and be protected by this coaching staff. honestly this and bc are both trap games which i think we all felt coming.
we're a horrific offense and great d. the d played its ass off and the offense did nothing to help.
there are so many question marks in this offense, shane and his "rb coach" postion, logans true skill set, receivers and their catches, the offensive line and pass protection/run blocking....kicking situation for field goals (cause yes thats offensive)
we have so much to work on, and realistically were not a 14th ranked team. we need to get back to old school vt football
I'm SO happy that people aren't on here making excuses. There aren't any. Has Beamer spoke on the radio yet?
Minor setback.
Major comeback.
Won every single category. And still lost.
FGs:
VT: 1/3
Duke: 2/2
Not every category.
I'm not comparing our team to Auburn I'm over that entire debate to be honest. Loeffler can't pass for us and he can't run for us and he can't block for us. Our O-line hasn't won the battle upfront since before last season. That is a work in progress and so is the team. I think we as fans got comfortable after winning 6 games after the Bama loss and we thought we were contenders, but in reality this is a rebuilding stage for a team that can make a run a bowl game, but certainly not out of the question for a ACC championship game either. I don't know too many Offensive Coordinators who's had success starting out with a new team. We knew our offense had problems before the staff shakeup happened. So this shouldn't be a surprise to us that these are growing pains.

Can we bring back Danny Coale under an assumed alias, as our star kicker?
I haven't been this upset since Michigan. This sucks. Poor defense...
Kicking game is not helping. But LT consistently missed wide open receivers and Beamer should have benched him after his 3rd interception! When a QB is having a bad day it's ok to bench him. I'm not a LT hater... He is what he is... Incosistent! But he needed to be taken out... He was having a bad day!
so i guess duke owns the state of virginia?
BTW I would like to add that I really think both the coaches and the team looked past this game, but I do not think they were the only parties to do this. Most of the people on this website, and Hokie Nation in general (including myself) did as well. WE CANNOT KEEP DOING THIS. This is the difference between a top tier program, and quite frankly, a pretender.
THESE UNIFORMS, NEVER AGAIN!!!!

Sorry, yards mean squat if you don't win the game. I honestly don't care how many yards you have if you throw interceptions, make bad decisions, and lose the game. In the end, ugly or not, a win is most important thing to get.
We need a team leader who wins games. Who can make the right decisions and do so quickly.
