I am happy to report that Tennessee still beat Alabama, overcoming Bediako's 13 points, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals to win 79-73. Hopefully Bama keeps stacking those L's. He was 5/6 from floor and 3/4 from the line as Alabama's third highest scorer.

Felt dirty cheering for the Volunteers

in NEFL so not equipped for ice/snow. when we replaced our HVAC, got a variable speed that draws A LOT LESS to get going so we can run it off our generator (8750/7000 inverter) when the wind knocks out the power. have an interlock switch on the panel and an inlet. runs central air, fridge and lights. to recharge the hot water, can switch it out for the A/C for an hour or 2. have a gas stove (and outdoor grills/burners) so we can cook.

Central VA had 3-4 inches of heavy (meaning weight) snow before turning to freezing rain this morning. Shoveled all of the snow off to hopefully not have extra ice to get rid of before my wife likely has to get to work tomorrow.

Luckily it seems like the snow didnt come down enough to sit in the trees. Freezing rain doesn't have much to get caught in to add additional weight before the wind comes tomorrow. Hoping no power outages now.

Reporting from christiansburg.
Its 12 degrees, was 10 when I got up. Those cold temps have been a blessing. It sleeted all nite, which knocked all the snow off trees and power lines. No freezing rain, so far. Today will tell the tale. Hope it stays cold. I've got my work cut out for me today, but we are feeling pretty blessed so far.
Take care Hokie Nation!

That is part of the reason why Dabo naming names is going to force the NCAA to do something. He wants sanctions for tampering and has provided blatant proof. Now, how much screaming does Ole Miss do when hid with 5 scholarships (nothing in NIL days) but a bowl ban as well.

Woke up to about 4 inches of snow here in Manassas. It's supposed to turn to freezing rain after 9am and continue until around 8pm.

I'm as prepped as can be, plenty of food and activities for my boys, plenty of towels to wipe down our newfoundland. No generator, but we rarely lose power or for long. This is likely the worst storm we'll experience since moving to this house as far as potential power loss, so we will see.

My snowblower started right up when I test ran it Thursday, then my wife commented on Friday when I got home she could smell gas in the garage. Turns out it's weeping gas from somewhere around the carburetor. It's been a pain in the ass with various issues since I bought it. So much for buying a new one to avoid problems

Yeah it's a pass on the neutral site games for me as well. I was excited for USCe to be a home and home and... nope. Can't have nice things because of TV now. Also playing in NFL stadiums is just an excuse to 1) bilk the crap out of fans and 2) it degrades the identity and brand of both schools over time. NFL stadiums are so antiseptic and bland and they don't allow for a sense of place and legend building. One less chance for an Earthquake game, etc.

Coaches are paid to win and leashes are shorter than ever for them.

When a door opens up to help themselves win, they are going to take advantage of it.

Yes, they could "take the high road," but ultimately the high road is one that is much more likely to lead to unemployment. Besides, a number of the "high road" Coaches have left the game in recent years---Krzyzewski Roy Williams, Dave Clawson, Bennett, and even Saban. They weren't perfect but they stood for something. And now they are being replaced by guys like Nate Oats, Will Wade, Coach Prime, Lane Kiffin, and now Pete Golding.

You either take advantage of all the opportunities that present themselves or others will. You can see this in the case of Dabo who has failed to get ahead of the Transfer Portal and Clemson has gone from Championship contenders to mid-pack in the ACC.

I think the bigger point here is that we all need to come to a realization:

College sports NEEDS THE NCCA

-We need a centralized power to set reasonable rules and standards and be able to enforce them. Otherwise, we are left to use Temporary Restraining Orders by a Legal System that is clearly not unbiased
-Yes, the NCAA sat on their hands which played a huge role in how things have transpired, but at some point we need to move beyond that because the "no rules at all" Era is (already has?) turned into a chaotic disaster.

How about this:
1. Standard rules for Transfers and Eligibility
2.Clear standards for NIL contracts and penalties for breaking them
3.Penalties for blatant tampering, including scholarship losses

Some common sense rules could go a long way to help get the 27 year-old semi-pro but not really good enough to actually be a Pro guys out of college sports, which would be globally beneficial

Maybe I was thinking of their offense? SZD did a scheme school episode on Indiana/Miami.

Regardless, I don't think IU did anything super innovative on either side of the ball. It's not like Cig invented Match Quarters, or the Blur, or Air Raide, or the Coastal Carolina triple, or the Pavia/Kill misdirection...

What frustrates me is coaches like this will complain about the "system being broken" and then go sign a G-Leaguer. There's just no shame. Nate Oats has all the agency in the world not to do this and he does it anyway.

Same thing with tampering. Coaches choose to tamper with other team's players. They choose to circumvent the salary cap and not report deals. They choose not to follow the rules. No one forces them to do it.

Hard to reform a system that is fundamentally run by self-interested narcissists.

I've had a lot of luck on countdown rapalas, but only for trout. Should work for whites as well, though. They're pretty heavy so they cast well, and they're killers if you have the right color. Gold and silver are the standards, but rainbow trout color works well also.

What's unique about Cig's scheme? Their defense is pretty vanilla, they just play well.

I've heard the opposite, that the defensive scheme is very complicated. That's why it played so well with the JMU transfers who knew the system. Can't recall who said it.

So there are a couple things I took for this, but overall something we've known for a long time is that seniors play better than freshman at the macro level. With NIL you can shape the roster a bit differently. What I really want to know/see is if teams can keep it up every year based on not wanting a lot of sophomores and junior, because right now you have VT getting players to make a run in 2-3 years. So while OSU ands the U shape everyyear, programs like VT would be estates to have a real championship shot ever 3 years. There are more programs like that than need to win every year to keep fans happy

My bad in the 17 fouls. They had 17 assists. My eyes crossed on the team fouls of 17.

Our defensively rebounding is painful too many games. 2nd effort points and sometimes 3 effort points are brutal.

Our offensive rebounding is what it is under CMY.

The missed layups, TO's, Neo's play was atrocious. It was amazing (not) to watch while asking oneself, "what is this bullshit". We shot ourselves in the foot in the 2H of the 1st and that put us 15 behind = depth knell.
