I was glad all of the negative Nancys left early, they were just bringing us down. I was in the NEZ and these football experts were sitting behind us just talking about how much we suck, not yelling or cheering. The second half was much better. Everyone was loud and we were all high fiving and hugging even though we were all complete strangers. Best game I've been to in awhile.
I wonder if any of the DLine recruits have been paying attention to VT's line play this year? All the sacks and Forced fumbles and almost TDs?
Unfortunately for us, Skip Hopkins' blur was not blurrier than the Marshall guy's blur.
Thanks for the link man, and thanks to VTPhreak in case you're reading this. Your work is much appreciated!
yup, they just kept playing ball. both teams won and lost that game several times. our guys just made one more play in the end. marshall fans should be proud.
ha, was gonna post something giving those folks props. i was in the east yelling HOKIES! back at all the freezing shirtless bros yelling LETS GO! in the north. it's like burnop said on the radio show afterwards, the fans who stayed are the die hards and lane was louder with the 40 to 50 thousand who stayed than its been in a long time.
its like hokiev says, i'm done being mad at people for leaving early. it was miserable out there and the team looked like shit. to each their own. hell i considered it when i looked over at mrs bch who's flip flopped feet were turning a little purple. but marshall could never get that two score cushion so we persevered, and i'm so glad we did. i've been to a lot of games in lane but i will never forget the 13 marshall game. fuck yeah. go hokies.
that being said, we're gonna lose some games this year.

Can someone please upload the game online? I unfortunately had other commitments so I missed it :(
Oops- sorry, fat- fingered an unintentional down vote. A W is definitely a W and I was cheering as the Marshall receiver failed to make the play on fourth down!
So wait...we added defensive starters to special teams again and now Beamerball is back? Hmm...
Shockingly, it appears Marcus Davis is in the background, not blocking
Pretty sure the reference is to Stinespring, not Loeffler.
Hey, I think I MAYBE heard somewhere that Cato and shuler went to high school together. Not 100% on that, I'll dig some more.
Now that I've sobered up I wanted to make a few more comments.
1. Everyone that stayed and screamed their asses off are soldiers. The noise was apparent on television - shit, the announcers said so during the First Overtime. The effort given by the truly dedicated fans (which was clearly a strong collection of TKPers) will resonate with the team.
2. The sellout streak coming to an end is sad. What I didn't expect to happen - and this was surely exacerbated by the weather conditions - was that some of the people who actually did show up would become less engaged. We are moving in a dangerous direction, and I'm not quite sure how we right the ship. I'm not pointing any fingers, because there is obviously a collection of various fan "types", but this needs to change ASAP. The reason why we make fun of UVA fans and Miami fans isn't just because their stadiums are rarely full. It has to do with the perception of an apathetic fan base. Do I think any of us here are apathetic? Of course not. Nor do I think the hundreds of thousands of Hokie alumni across the world are apathetic. We all bleed maroon and orange and are proud to do so. My fear is rooted in the possibility that at the end of this season, or maybe a few seasons down the road, our once nationally-recognized rabid fanbase will have an altered perception amongst national audiences. Whether it be because we aren't regularly filling our stadium, or because fans are leaving at halftime during a close game. This perception of apathy affects recruiting, television scheduling, our current players, and the overall respect of the program on a national level. This is what we, as fans, have a role in. The players' job is to win the game. Our job is to show up, fill the stands, scream incessantly until we pass out from lack of oxygen, and repeat the next week. I don't know how this changes. Is it guerrilla marketing, as someone else suggested on another thread? Who knows, but it needs to start with the student body.
The students set the standard; as alumni, when we see the young people go crazy, we all get nostalgic and it makes us proud. A lot of us who have graduated in the last 20 years feel like we have played a part in the rise of Hokie football, and we don't want to see things change for the worse. Remember: "For Those Who Have Passed, For Those To Come." Lets make sure this doesn't happen, and we continue to show up in droves for all 60 minutes for the next 20 years and beyond.
I was in the stands screaming "FAT MAN TOUCHDOWN! FAT MAN TOUCHDOWN! FAT MAN TOUCHDOWN! Aww..."
that and the blocked punt/TD in first quarter are tied for my two favorite moments of the game.
My favorite computer science professor, Dr. James Arthur, had that phrase on his office door.
During overtime, we were about 40,000 strong and sounded like a sold-out Thursday night crowd.
The contingent in the lower-right of NEZ straight-up represented and I would take that over what I saw from NEZ during the WCU game any day. I was there with my 7 year-old until the glorious end and anyone within 200 feet of section 29 knew we weren't giving up. All he could say after the final pass was dropped was "That was AWESOME". Yes indeed son, yes indeed.
Also, a big shout out to the shirtless group behind us (in the nosebleed section of the nosebleeds). They made me proud.
Hopkins would have just handed the ball to the official and then strolled to the sidelines LIKE A BOSS, Barry Sandera style.
Not that they're made public, but on Beamer's website they have post-game locker room videos. After the ECU game Loeffler told the team to remember what was said in August, something along the lines of they had 4 weeks of spring football, and they had another next week (meaning after Marshall), to prepare for conference play. Each week we've seen something different out of the offense, and I think we'll see more wrinkles against Georgia Tech.
It's never lupus
Oh god.
So...I'm a Filly-bian?! A les-mare?!?
I just realized this about myself. My world has changed.
Good research, HokieFish. Time to fulfill my destiny!
Every time I get sick I think it's lupus

I was highly disappointed that College Football Final didn't give us any helmet stickers at all... People were tweeting that A.J. Hughes should get one, perhaps even Hopkins.
