Yea, it looked to me like they were out there having fun in overtime. And that's how they have to play. I honestly do think hearing some of the booing hurts them a little bit and makes them push a little too hard. When all of those people left it seemed like the players were having a genuinely fun time.
We stayed for a couple hours after the game as did a lot of people. It was probably the worst I've ever felt after a game. No one wanted to talk or anything. We kinda just stood their drinking til someone fell asleep in the car.
on top of the false starts, i think the team really appreciated and fed off the energy of the crowd.
I posted my thoughts in the game thread, not here, so I suppose they all got lost for the most part.
I was sitting in row FFF at the 40, and from that distance the orange and maroon blended together into a gross shade of crimson.
I was doing the same, only from my couch. I wasn't quite shouting it out, though, because my wife was asleep after an overnight shift in the emergency clinic. The thought of Hopkins rumbling into the end zone made me incredibly happy.

I think the part of people leaving by halftime I didn't get was the fact that at that point they're already drenched. It wasn't terribly cold and you're already drenched, why not just stay? It can't get any worse.
Lend him your treadmill?
I was afraid I was the only one.
Yep it was '09 Miami when we manhandled them. IIRC the rain was so much worse because it sustained heavy rain for a long long looong time.
TO used to pull out cell phones and sharpies for celebrations. I think Hopkins woulda whipped out an oxygen tank.
Buy your son a turkey leg next game.
The old wive's tale is that the disease is caused by the cold, which is, of course, wrong. We're not 100% clear on the exact causes of why cold weather promotes illness, but there are even statements in your cited article that indicate temperature and humidity affect pathogen transmittance, which is precisely what I was arguing for. Moreover, the first Google result for "does cold affect the immune system" is this:
http://www.everydayhealth.com/cold-and-flu/colds-and-the-weather.aspx
Note the section on vasoconstriction. If your blood vessels constrict, not only does it lead to dryness and affect mucus production, but it also impedes the ability of white blood cells to arrive at target tissues to combat illness. True hypothermia (actual lowering of the body's core temperature, which is very hard to do) has been found to depress immune response because organ systems (including the endocrine system) begin to fail. Not likely to happen at a football game (despite how anyone may feel), but that's absolute proof that cold (though extreme) does negatively influence the immune system. Unfortunately, that's not something I can provide a link for as it is published scientific literature that requires a subscription to access.
Gahh my first accidental downvote, someone pick a horse up for me...
My dad and I had two extra tickets, so we left at halftime to pound some beers at the car, and then got back.
100% can confirm the stadium was louder after all the fairweathers left.
There's no doubt in my mind we wouldnt have won that game had we not been there screaming in OT. There was a few false start penalties on Marshall that were definitely caused by crowd noise.
It could be a tumor.
I think the most probable end zone celebration for Hopkins would have been him passing out
Dude you're wrong, this is an old wive's tale. I spent about thirty minutes searching and could not find a single link to empirical evidence that shows a correlation to temp/moisture affecting the immune
response.http://www.medhelp.org/user_journals/show/687582/Mythbusters-Does-cold-w...
This is one of about thirty I found that says otherwise. I feel like I'm beating a dead horse here, but this is a serious point of contention between my wife and I. Which is probably why I am fighting so hard here on the board. Point is, if you are healthy you have nothing to fear from the wet/cold exposure. If you get sick soon afterwards it was going to happen anyway, you had already been exposed.
The rain was worse for the A&M game, the Miami game was great, but for me yesterday was the best. I was with buddies at the other games, but with my son yesterday. He loved it and refused to pull up his raincoat hood! He told me he was glad it went into OT because it meant we got to stay in the rain longer. That makes this game my new all time favorite!
Yeah, I had a similar experience. A couple of guys behind me were awful. They bitched and moaned the entire time, and clearly had no idea what they were talking about. Only time they yelled was to yell obscenities at our own players. When Marshall scored their last TD to go up by 7 one of them said he was going to sell his season tickets and I sincerely hope that he followed through on that. I was glad they left.
I agree with a good amount of this, but a few other things to consider:
-No one knows how good Leal can be. That's the point. We know how good Logan can be, which is VERY average. He has shown that time and time again and anyone who truly believes that he can replicate the end of the 2011 season for a sustained period of time is naive. You can call me a pessimist for believing that, but trust me, I am in the decided majority. This is the worst period of offensive performance that tech has gone through in a long time and at least Leal offers a chance of putting an end to that.
-While loyalty is something that I'm sure recruits appreciate, that loyalty is a double edged sword as it also means that the coach is sticking with a player that has proven that he really just can't get it done (for the record I'm playing devil's advocate with this statement; I would value loyalty way more). Given what Logan has done for the team, it would definitely be a slap in the face to bench him. At this point, though, I think Beamer's unwillingness to screw Logan over is the only reason that Leal doesn't get a chance.
-If we are focusing on the big picture, we would stat Leal because he offers something in the future. Unless Logan just magically remembers how to be good, we are going to end up with about an 8 win season. If you bring Leal in and he is worse than Logan, we will probably end up with a 6-7 win season. If he comes in and is better than Logan, we could win the ACC. The fact that playing Leal is a low risk/medium reward move that also helps us next season is the reason that people want him to play.
again...whether you like Logan Thomas or not,the coaches put the ball in the hands of the one young man that had the experience, been through this gauntlet before, and could win the game .and the after game interview showed how humble he is...For the mess that he was in,and all he's come through,I think he did an admirable job !

Hey, SEZ represented too.
