All we have to do is keep winning. The diehards will always be there and the bandwagoners will come back.
it's not just the students. the fanbase at large has a ton of negativity in it, and has for years. a lot of people have a 'if you're not first you're last' mentality. i'm not a season ticket holder but i tend to go to 3 or 4 games a year. not being a season ticket holder means i sit all over the stadium for different games and some of the shit i hear people say makes me wonder why they're even there. i'm a huge nerd and vt football is my hobby so i dont really think much of it when folks who donate to the school know less about the team than i do, but some of the shit talking about beamer and pretty much every aspect of the program blows my mind sometimes.
we're coming off a bad year after several years of a plateau. there's not a ton of sizzle around the program right now. like somebody says above, start winning again and they'll pack back into lane. until then, i'd love to be offered free tickets so maybe people should stop complaining about that and control what they can, their own passion on gameday.

yeah, I guess never had any flex left because I always ate like an refugee on a carepackage, since A, the food was just so damn good, and I like food, and B, being on the crew team, I could never replace all of the calories we burned while working out and practicing. However if I eat like that now..... well big things will be afoot later on in the evening!
If you ever need a WTF-laugh, take a look at some of the town names in WV. Lego, Jolo, Hoohoo, Cinder Bottom, Jenkin Jones, Bozoo, Paw Paw, Jumbo, Sassafrass... can't make this up.

really appreciate your perspective and loyalty. I don't think you meant it that way, but I have heard the 1993 reference before about that first generation of Bowl Streak fans, and I would like to share my perspective on that briefly.
1993 happened to be my first year in college, prior to that I was not even a college football fan. But I grew-up with the program as it itself grew up in the college football ranks, and I quickly fell in love with it. In all honestly I feel roughly the same way about Hokie Football that I did about my childhood dog. It hurts to lose, and I would never abandon my team for a losing season.
I will not speak for recent additions to the fanbase, but what you said about last year's class might have merit. The Cincinnati post I made earlier, the stadium had only 35,000 in attendance that day.
It's not happening. Time to let it go.
Loved that place because they delivered... nothing cured a shitty Monday morning at work better than an office order of Tudor's
I'm a cat owner and I think this is one of the funniest commercials I've ever seen. The one with the BC Eagle and the Temple Owl running into the glass conference room window is hilarious, too.
watch what you wish for. i used to say the same type of stuff until my alma mater played in lane. . . jmu.
i learned a lot about my fandom that day. mainly that my sporting loyalties lie in the new river valley.
I upvoted this and I'll tell you why. Not because 'getting our asses kicked in the OB'. That statement is incorrect. Flat. Out. Wrong.
I see this in State College, too. There are a large number of students of Asian nationality (like, before college lived in China/Hong Kong/Korea, not just of Asian heritage). I've heard this is because the international rate charged for students is higher than even out of state students, and I've also heard foreign governments pay an extra amount to have a certain number of spaces available to their 'top' students, even before paying tuition. I can't confirm either of these claims.
However, PSU also has a large, large alumni base that is more than willing to travel. So the number of people that come back for games is very high, and this school is much more accessible to alumni than Blacksburg is to VT alums.
I do agree, however, that foreign students tend to care less about football at VT than even American students who didn't care about it beforehand. I wasn't a big college football fan before going to VT. Then I sat in the stands and saw Michael Vick. Boom. I was done.
I always had a lot because I would have about 70-100 bucks carry over from Fall Semester...and then add the 70-100 bucks that I didn't get through during Spring Semester. I then used the bags of food and soda to make it through the Summer without having to spend much of my summer job money on food.
Damn, now I'm getting reminiscent about college days...never having to eat a meal without friends...late night Ice Cream and Coffee at Deet's...Pizza and Chik-fil-a at Hokie Grill...WEST END! Oh man...I better stop.
This again... When we start winning consistently, this will no longer be an issue. And also, the argument that "well you can get drunk any other day of the year" is just dumb. Have you ever been to center street on gameday? Partying at that level comes around 5 times a year and then never again after you graduate. Just sayin.
From what I understand most of the north endzone is Greek. Explains the dressing up. (No offense to Greeks).
Marshall was 104th last year in rushing defense and gave up 203 yards a game on average and over 4 yards a run. That really kept them out of a bowl game.
And now, like you guys pointed out, they are 5th in rushing defense and allow 1.97 ypc. So the question becomes- are they really that good of a defense? Is it due to Heater? A stat truly based on the schedule? I think time will tell on Saturday.
If they're even running an option (it may just be a designed keeper disguised as an option, although I did see Logan keep at least 1), it's probably just to remind DC's that they do in fact have to account for the QB as a runner and it might help to open up play-action. I think once we get into ACC play, we'll see Logan keeping a lot more of them.
Like BYU did?
They are pretty cheap at the store and you can get them at Stop In as well for like 79 cent. Big iced coffee and some carol lee's for less than 3 bucks.
Yeah I would imagine that something to this extent is going on too because there were a few times last week where Logan should have kept it . If this is true, though, why even run the read option? The foundation for success on this play is indecision by the defensive players, which isn't happening if they don't have to respect the QB as a runner.
A little perspective -
People who became fans of Tech football in 1993 have never known a losing season. In my opinion, some of those Tech fans have been spoiled by success, particularly over the last eight years where we've posted 10+ wins every season. Students who were freshman last year don't know anything about Tech football except the 7-6 record last season - could they be the majority of student no-shows this year?
Since CFB took over the program twenty-six years ago, we've had a total of four losing seasons - 1987, 1988, 1991, and the 2-8-1 debacle of 1992. At the end of the 1992 season, CFB fired a number of assistant coaches and hired new guys, sparking the 20 year streak of winning records at Tech.
The 7-6 winning record last year was the worst winning record since 1997 when the team posted a 7-5 final tally. Once again, CFB has taken action to correct the problems on the offensive side of the ball, perhaps a couple of years too late, and has fired some assistants and hired new ones with fresh ideas. We may not see the results we want to see this year on the offensive side of the ball, but I'm betting we become VERY competitive over the next couple of years.
More perspective -
I first became a fan of Tech football in 1967. From 1967 until CFB arrived in 1987, Tech had a total of four head coaches - Claiborne, Coffey, Sharpe, and Dooley. Their combined W-L record over twenty years was 120-97-4, with a TOTAL of 12 winning seasons. Let me tell you, that was dismal stretch of Tech football, particularly the ten years between 1967 and 1977 (56-60-3).
Claiborne was let go because his offense was FAR worse than anything we've seen under CFB, even though he had this superb gunslinger sitting on the bench by the name of Don Strock. Coffey had one winning season when Strock was a senior, and he was fired, too. Sharpe had some off-the-field issues that resulted in his dismissal after a four-year stretch. Dooley was actually a good coach, compiling seven winning seasons out of nine, but the NCAA caught him with more scholarships on the roster than was allowed by the rules.
Everyone pretty much has a bike now. It seems the last couple times I've rode the bus, the driver had to turn people away because they only have slots for 2 bikes on the front of the BT. There are bigger lines at stop lights for bikes than there are cars half the time too.
what is this "left over flex dollars" of which you speak? I can remember ever not having to put money back on my flex account, and never had much left at all by the end of the semester.... and why would I with cinnabon and chik fil a right between my dorm and basically everywhere else I had to go? heresy I tell you!
Blue jeans and a hoodie/shirtless 4th quarters by god its a tradition for us and were gonna keep it thar way cold or not
