I hope Clemson and/or FSU (please be Clemson!) experiences a rude surprise in Charlotte.
Neither is Alabama, but when you can execute what your offense can do at will, then it's hard to stop without an elite defense. Of course, having elite recruits in your roster helps...
I hope the coaching staff is able to dial up an approach that keeps our defense playing at a high level, and provides a springboard for our upper class men to be drafted to the pros. Obviously, this will entail protecting those returning from injuries.
With Exum coming back, we're essentially going to have four 1st-string CBs.
I doubt he'll do it, but imagine if Foster decided to design a dime package...
I'm trying to figure out who you have 4th.
Yeah that's what it sounded like to me too. Lindquist had no idea how to react when she said that.
But the question then becomes, why was he out there in the first place? Give him a rest and let someone else kick.
This is the best stats site:
You'd think someone as smart as a UVA grad!!!! could figure out how to design a discussion board that doesn't look like such shit.
Fuck all those douchequeifs!
2007...LSU blowout to start the season, the night that shall not be spoken of happened in October, and we still finished within a gnat's ass in the final points.
Before everyone gets all crazy I am not at all suggesting this will play out similarly, just that it's not impossible.
I kind of agree with part of what you are saying. But I don't think a complete 180 for the offense is possible next year.
If you use our 98 and 99 teams as an example - the 98 offense was pretty bad - although the 98 team had many games where they could move the ball effectively on the ground . Vick's play making ability was largely responsible for most of the turn-around in 99.
I think it would be a little generous to say that Bucky or Ford will bring to the table what Vick brought us as a freshman - Bucky and Ford are more of the "give them a couple of years in the offense and something might click as junior or senior" type QB prospects - think Bryan Randall. If you think of them as anything else, you will be very disappointed.
(Vick was a national top 10 overall recruit). Very few QBs can deliver undefeated type seasons as freshman. You probably can count on one hand the number of freshman national title game QBs in the last 30 years.
You mentioned Manziel. He's a great talent - but a lot of Manziel's early success is the product of playing under Kevin Sumlin. I mean - Sumlin made Casey Keenum look like a Heisman finalist! We won't see an organized offensive machine like Sumlin's around VT anytime soon - or probably ever under Beamer's watch.
For starters, I think Virginia Tech needs to get the running game back to where it was in the 90s and 2000s - where we would out rush all but 1 or 2 of the teams we played all year. If we can get that going again, then I think its possible to take that next step.
Yesterday - VT rushed for 53 yds on 34 carries against East Carolina.
34 for 53yds
VT has a loooong ways to go.
That is beautiful!
Burn
If you think there's a chance that the refs viewed that as a fumble, you dive on it. Terrible job by Wisc
Turkey leg for you sir
Well, that would of made sense if they jumped on the ball right when it was placed on the ground or a second after. There's a good 3 or 4 seconds after the play is whistled dead before anyone goes after the ball.
Stave was probably just trying to expedite the spot of the ball, but it massively backfired.
I just tuned into this thread. No way I'm reading all 849 comments. Let me guess:
1) We can't run
2) We appear to have gained Facysinterceptor machine
3) Funny images of things and stuff.
4) The redeption of Demetri Knowles
5) SAFETY FTW
Accurate?
EDIT: 6) Cody?!
I went to bed before this happened but it just reinforces how awful Pac-12 refs are. I can't believe after almost two years that conference still isn't making them read the rule book.
2) the freshman cornerbacks havent been overwhelmed.
Understatement of the year.
Kicking can be a head game. And while coaches trying to ice the kicker by calling timeouts in a big spot is usually ineffective (and a waste of time), ...
Some coaches even try to ice the kicker twice.
I really like your point, Andy, about ECU trying to force Logan to beat them through the air. I didn't like our run production, but it became pretty clear that ECU was selling out to stop the run since our passing offense didn't appear to be a strength. A few more teams do that and I think Logan will be on track, then Mangus and Edmunds can run wild. I'm also happy to hear that Benedict wasn't happy with the performance, but, again, I think it has a lot to do with ECU's defensive strategy.
In defense of ASU, Stave's attempt to 'down' the ball was peculiar. I've never seen anyone lay it down like he was serving tea before. It's usually just a kneel down. If I were an ASU defender, I'd have jumped on it too. I thought he fumbled it intentionally. It was after the play when Stave went over to the ref and claimed he conceded the play. Weird, wonderful stuff.
Well I wouldn't say those things are mutually exclusive. In fact, when he missed the second of his three, I texted my buddy that Journell needs to stop hitting the bottle so hard. Unfair, probably. But dammit!
