The performance by Miami against Florida yesterday makes it seem even bleaker. They looked nasty out there.
Film review of it will be up as soon as I can get it completed.
and 15 more than uva
Very true, but Clemson also plays a very exciting brand of football and has an unbelievable game day experience for fans that doesn't seem as heavily regulated as the Lane experience has become.
While I agree, as many have said our offense was extremely vanilla yesterday and we probably didn't crack the surface of the playbook. Granted, the execution of the plays we did run wasn't all that great, but the extra practice on those bread-and-butter type plays will pay dividends later in the season.
I always viewed a student section seat number as hey stand in this general are it really doesn't matter if you're in the exact seat. But every year there is a freshmen or someone who will bitch about it the first game but then realize it doesn't matter as the season goes
Regarding the long ball, I am more than okay with some Dink-n-Dunk offense until we figure out who can go long consistently. D-n-D plus a good running game is the ultimate clock killer, and combined with our defense, could do wonders for us.
That's exactly what our OL guys said about their DL being smaller & quicker than most teams, also the LB were more DB size & quick, tough to block in the open field.
They also said that on a few plays that WCU DL were confused & had not lined up properly & that in turn screwed VTs' blocking assignment call, I thought that was pretty funny.
WCU wasn't an exciting game so I don't blame you. You paid for your ticket. If you are not entertained then leave.
I am not going to challenge how hard you polytech based on leaving one game early.
This year is different and I will tell you why in two words: "Jameis Winston" #HowManyHeismansHasHeWon
I hate games like this, because unless you really blow out the inferior opponent you don't really learn anything about your team. The D definitely did their part in a blow-out. The O? Not so much. They took a quarter to get going, scored 38 points against arguably the worst team in their division, and hardly dominate the LoS. So we'll have to wait til ECU to gauge how good our offense really is.
Actually, Ted Miller (Pac-12 writer) is pretty good. Seems pretty reasonable/unbiased and is a pretty funny writer, pretty similar to Andy Bitter.
Wake always fights F$U tough, too. Gonna be a good season.
Awesome post, hoqiez. We're the only team in there who has played anyone of note except Florida. Miami should have been able to move the ball, but couldn't. I'm not too disappointed in the #4 ranking, but we'll have to lock down Marshall and ECU in yardage to get up higher. I'd also like to see how our defensive PPG numbers turn out after the Alabama game fades for a while. I think I heard somewhere that ST and Pick6 points are still counted against the defense, which disappoints me.
Wisconsin will be up there all season because they don't play anyone out of conference and the Big Ten has few offenses. They play Ohio State and NW'ern, the only two that should be able to put up yardage. AzState will have to play Wisconsin, USCw, Stanford, ND, and Arizona, so they'll tumble. Michigan State gets ND, Michigan, an NW'ern.
Side note, if Marshall has a defense, that'll be 'closer than the experts think'.
I was enjoying every second. Missed a bunch of tackles on a short pass that led to a 49 yard gain, QB kept throwing a little 10 yard hitch route even though the corner had zero respect for any sort of double move and kept jumping it. INT sealed the deal.
NC State has been their and F$Us kryptonite of course Tom Obrien isnt there anymore...Does that mean #NewHoos are now Klempson and F$Us kryptonite?
I just don't get why their ESPN3 games don't have the GameCast IN THE SAME DAMN WINDOW!!! WHY CAN'T I GET THE STATS FOR THE GAME I'M WATCHING FROM THE ACTUAL GAME WINDOW. /rant
Clemson at number 3? NC State up next, a team that barely beat Richmond this week. I feel a Clemsoning coming on...
Every school's fans are "good" when they have a reason to be. The exception to this is, of course, UVA.
Dynasty!!
Vinny Mihota sufferered a broken bone in his foot: http://news.fredericksburg.com/hsfb/2013/09/08/mihota-suffers-broken-bon...
Mihota said if the break is closer to his toes, he will play Friday when the Panthers host Chancellor. He said if it's closer to his ankle, he'll miss as many as four weeks.
"I'm very nervous about it," Mihota said of the X-ray. "I want to be back on the field as soon as I can."
Mihota suffered a broken wrist during a dirt bike accident in the spring, but he said this is the first injury that could cause him to miss games. As a four-year starter, he's never missed a contest in his career.
Mihota has orally committed to Virginia Tech and plans to graduate from Massaponax early so he can enroll in college for the spring semester.
I didn't know he was a 4-year starter, hopefully his streak remains intact.
Although our WR's still need A LOT of work on catching the ball, one thing that I have noticed is much, much better: Blocking. They did a good job all day long. Mangus' score was on a beautiful block from Knowles who tied up his man the entire time. If that was Davis last year it would have been a loss of yardage.
Follow the money...E$PN thought they were interesting enough to have their own channel. Lucrative TV deal = job security.
I think the "fan identity" has evolved over the past decade. It has become commonplace to boo and chastise players on your own team. Common place to leave at half time if the score is well in hand or the weather is adverse. Being a fan is a much more casual thing than what it used to be. It would help to schedule some better opponents, but for now...it is what it is.

We won't be ranked even after ECU and Marshall
