Success is defined as (in order from most probable to least probable):

  • A win
  • Less than 200 overall yards for WCU
  • Trey Edmunds runs for 100 yards
  • Logan is Sacked 0 times
  • No offensive turnovers
  • No WCU Special teams touchdowns
  • A shutout
  • Logan has a completion percentage > 60%
  • 1 drop or less per receiver
  • Less than 10 paper airplanes thrown (I know 10 is entirely too many, but we have to take baby steps)

You're crazy, man.

But...you're also correct. I remember that as well. Beamer was getting on Moorehead to tell the receivers to go up and get the ball at the highest point. Verbatim.

Surely Moorehead is telling his players this anyway, and Beamer was just being nit-picky old boss guy. (I hope.)

1. Win the game. Duh.
2. Injury Gods fly over without stopping in Blacksburg.
3. Not just the receivers, but tight ends make progress in passing game. Hokies need this.
4. The score is lopsided enough so that 2's and 3's get a lot of work. Especially LB's and O line.
5. The new scoreboard works without a hitch.

I just wanna see shi* that makes sense. No injuries. Shutout. CATCH THE BALL!!!!! We're going to see plenty of younger less experienced players this week. We'll be on pace for a huge 70-0 win by half time but the second half will see a lot of new faces and the scoring will slow down. The final will probably be 48-7 but I would rather see 70-0

Weighing in.

I sincerely think folks are making too big a deal out of ONE game which is an incredibly small sample. Further, the argument about the spring scrimmages and game is small samples as well, when one consider that Loeffler installed less than ten percent of the playbook.

I believe it was Joe who said on Twitter that the new coaches have to "unfuck the 7 years of fucked up coaching." He's right. O'Cain for all of his accolades didn't help Thomas. The confusing offense last season didn't help, the inconsistent running back rotation didn't help, the piss poor interior offensive line play didn't help, and subpar wide receiver play didn't help. Last season was a disaster in every sense of the word.

Loeffler arrived to Auburn tasked with converting a spread offense to pro-style with a quarterback who is now a safety. Malzhan, I believe tried to coach the same Quarteback before leaving for Arkansas State. Loeffler was the wrong hire for Auburn thank to Chizik for being an idiot.

At Virginia Tech where playing smash mouth football was the norm, Loeffler along with Grimes and Moorehead can build a vision an execute it. So far, early returns are positive.

Thomas in my eyes shown improvement over last season. He threw away passes to protect the ball. He slid for a first down, something a good quarterback are taught to do. That ill advised pass for a pick six was on Thomas and Coles both.

Finally, Thomas was never about himself. He did everything the coaches asked him to do. His journey to being a quarterback has been well-documented. The haters can choke on their hate.

We want Ike chants in '06 over Glennon.

I've been watching Fox Sports 1 a lot more but their version of Gameday sadly doesn't hold a candle to ESPN's game day (despite Herbstreit being Herbstreit). I hope it gets better but until it's just not the same sitting in a studio.

Yeah, like I said, he thinks very highly of himself, and I look at him the same way I look at Peter King for his NFL coverage. You're getting the top writer for the sport at (what is probably) the best and longest standing sports publication we've got, they've got the best access and the most experience, you just have wade through the bigheadedness sometimes. I've seen Mandel speak very positively about Virginia Tech (and he never forgets that Beamer is a great coach and university rep). But it's always a mixed bag.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Ducks showed up a quarter late to give UVA a head start on defending their first play.

The only reason I could see doing something like this is that it gets the kid interested in your school at a young age. When I was in middle school, I didn't watch college football - just pro.

But London has no idea how an 8th-grader is going to grow. The kid could just be an early bloomer who stops blooming, for all he knows. I think it's just to build buzz with that kid, and amoungst his peers, which is sorta despicable if the kid plateaus and they never give him a real offer...

Turkey Leg for your WLIIA reference. Aisha Tyler is a good host but the show will never be the same without Drew behind the desk.

I think those fans forget how much Logan did NOT want to play QB. He told VT coaches he didn't want to be QB during recruiting. He was projected as #1 TE and could have been top TE off the board in the draft. Yet here he is getting called to be benched.

He sacrificed and switched for the team. And fans last year and this year keep calling for him to be replaced. Unbelievable. He didn't have to switch. The faults of recruiting and coaching were not his, but he changed to make the team better. Just as Teller is now. What if Teller actually sucks on OL and people start calling for him to be replaced?

This is why VT has a bad name for moving kids around. And why it affects our ability to recruit elite kids. You don't think other recruits don't know that Logan didn't want to be QB and switched for the team? Now they see/hear fans wanting him benched... Stupid. Fans need to respect the sacrifice they make when they do these moves for good or bad. If you want to blame anyone it's Beamer and the coaches for not recruiting well enough, and Beamer specifically for not cutting the cord on O'Cainspring earlier.

Once you go Amish.......

Yep.
I think it's a combination of not understanding their audience and not having staff that understands the game AND that can articulate it.
I could honestly spend the rest of the season reading H. Dininch's (or any ESPN blogger's) columns and not get 1% of the information, breakdown that I get from 1 POST, not even column by TKP staff.
And they are paid 'professionals' ?!
Maybe the majority of the sports consumer wants to see the touchy feelgood stories on game day, but I don't!
I would rather have Gruden breakdown the Tampa 2, or the reads that a QB must make in the Oregon system.

ESPN is in the business of creating false hype and drama and then completely disowning the wreckage they create. (I'm looking at you Craig James and Monti Te'O)

They've jumped the shark like MTV did a decade ago: MTV used to play music, now IMHO they serve to promote some agenda using the vehicle of music. And ESPN........

send me your street address and I'll fax you a VHS.

It will likely be used in the ECU preview so you will get to see it with some French/Mason analysis!

Remember the wink during the interview with Samantha Ponder? Frank was talking about the O-line and winked. Was I the only person to see this? I thought he was flirting with Sam at first.
