Hah... incomplete. I appreciate that pun.
this could start a completely new thread on its own, but if we had some of the advantages that FSU and Clemson enjoy we could have a couple titles by now. I personally believe our best is yet to come as a school, and that we are overachieving, by far, compared to our ACC brethren as of late.
I do agree we got some of our skill player recruiting into a mess (how many freshman were playing?), but in response to that I would say this:
1) I'm grateful that we have yet ANOTHER stud RB and Coach Grimes
2) I believe the new coaches are working, right now, on fixing the other issues but it will take a few years.
One thing you have to remember is that Beamer has been in this business for a long time. He's not going to say anything controversial or give them bulletin board material. It's just not his style. He's always going to compliment the other team, no matter what he might really be thinking.
I came away wishing we had those receivers. You don't go 22/24 unless guys are hanging onto the darn ball.
I'll take intelligent (Ford) with arm concerns over strong armed knucklehead any day- Plenty of those guys on the scrap heap.
Clemson and FSU's offenses are playing lights out, but their defense are suspect.
Right...I knew Caleb was suspended and was moved to RB. That was my point. If he was moved to RB because he couldn't beat out the current WR set, he must have looked really bad in practice at WR.
I'm the biggest fan that I personally know, and even I knew this was true and completely agree with you. Still part of me thought it was possible however unlikely :)
Fire the special teams coach. Get someone younger in there with some new schemes. The time has come.
^THIS. I don't know how anyone could've expected our offense to score five times on a top 5 defense. Not only are we running a completely new system, but we have completely new coaches who haven't had much time to recruit players for their system.
If we had started with a functional offense, and made a few position coach changes, I would have higher expectations. If we had started with a functional offense and an OC left was replaced by someone under him, who is familiar with is system (see Oregon) I would have higher expectations. This wasn't the case.
We should all be frustrated that our we lost b/c of special teams (once a strength of ours). Even worse, in a sport where perception may matter just as much as ability, it sucks that the score appears so lopsided. That being said, most of our mistakes were execution mistakes, which are SIGNIFICANTLY easier to correct than schematic/'cultural' problems.
Some more from CFN:
25.Virginia Tech 0-1
Last Week: L, Alabama, 35-10
Why The Ranking Should Be Higher: Theres absolutely no shame in losing to the Crimson Tide, the top-ranked team and two-time defending national champs. The Hokies did a fantastic job of winning the line of scrimmage on defense, a strength that could lead to an ACC Coastal Division crown this fall.
Why The Ranking Should Be Lower: Okay, so no one looks good against the Bama D, but the Hokies were downright noxious. Plus, if QB Logan Thomas allows this feeble opening effort to linger, the Hokies are going to remain an incomplete and inconsistent program.
and from their bowl projections:
The Florida State-Clemson winner will be the best team in the ACC by far, and it'll be a major shocker if anyone else - other than maybe Virginia Tech - can get to Miami. However, the Tiger/Seminole winner might end up in Pasadena playing for the national title.
Do we have a revised ETA on Exum? GT? UNC? Miami?
It almost feels like we could go to a bit of A-Back, B-Back with Caleb backing up Trey and JCC/Mangus as the smaller back.....replacing Willie Byrn as that pitch man...
On Edmunds TD run, isn't Clinton-Dix coming hard on the pitch man? You can see him moving hard to his left in the "Daylight is Beautiful" blow up. Was that his assignment or residue to the first series with DJC on the pitch?
Without Clinton-Dix taking himself out of position, it looks like that's a 15-yd run and not a 76 yarder.
Good athlete nontheless, but he played QB in HS and RB seems to be a more natural fit for him since he's used to having the ball in his hands almost every play.
Look, it's @ UVA so I bet they hold them at the most 50 points.
His receivers were pretty much wide open all night long just like Danny Coale.
I think Logan gave a fantastic effort. Special teams was unprepared (coach's fault IMO) but I would not say they didn't try. Some of the receivers looked sluggish/afraid/not exerting effort. Hence why they have been receiving the most blame.
UVA will keep it closer than you think. 37-17, Oregon.
Ford's got arm strength concerns. Plenty of good college QB's have succeeded with arm strength concerns, like Dorsey and Leinart, but plenty of kids remain backups because of arm strength concerns.
Personally, I think Ford will play next year. January enrollee and he's the first Loeffler recruit. I expect Leal to be the starter next year with Ford rotating in from the beginning and eventually taking over. But he's not without concerns, he's just the Loeffler recruit of the bunch.
every program in the country wished they had Jameis Winston after that game.
Channelling your inner Corso I see
If Weaver gave them away I would be there. But I am not going to pay $55 to see them play Western Carolina. I only go to 1-2 games a season anyways so my game choices are somewhat picky. But yeah for a free ticket I would fill a seat. Not that that would happen anyways. :)

And which coach exactly would you remove in order to make room for a special teams coach?...
