Aaaaand that's why we wait for more than one source to report stuff (or, better yet, official reports from VT, as delayed as they might be), before we freak out. Glad Marshall's hanging around.
I am curious to see how this turns out for him. It worries me when players don't get their share of fame and turn into jealous angry players who go home to mommy. Hopefully this is a maturing experience...you have to earn your playing time--either play harder or leave, but don't come back and act the same way.
Bitter says that Teller actually asked grimes to move last week.
And didn't Corey make the move to DT to actually get playing time, because he was being buried by Dadi and Tyrell at end?
Not Luck....backup QB (unsure of name, heard it this morning, but it didn't stick in my memory banks).
The only way this picture gets better is if you believe just how slutty Kelly was in real life, but then you have to believe the dubious Dustin Diamond.

You have to keep in mind, this was the first full team full contact work the offensive line has had all season. Early, the first group looked a bit shakey. As the scrimmage progressed, they looked much better, so much so that Logan had all the time he wanted on the touchdown throw to Stanford.
Keep in mind, the offense is still in an embryonic stage, where the defense is essentially returning a front six of guys who have started together for two previous years. I expected there to be some challenges, especially when the defense knows that Edmunds is being protected (meaning, if Edmunds is in, it is a pass.) Watching in person, after the initial pressures, the offensive line was very solid in pass protection, especially on the inside where they struggled mightily last season. The footwork of the offensive line looked improved as well, as guys were staying on their blocks and keeping their feet moving. That by itself is an upgrade from last season.
The running game is still a mystery. The #1 O ran the ball pretty well against the #2 D with Chris Mangus, but it certainly did not look like the 96 Cornhuskers out there. But, there were holes that made me think that the running game will be servicable.
He went home, and his mama told him to get right back in that car and drive straight to Blacksburg or she was gonna whup dat ass.
Cannot express how much I'm loving Coach Moorehead. I played receiver and after last year when Sherman basically said nothing, did nothing, proved nothing about Marcus Davis and his style of I'm-not-playing playing, not to mention #allthedroppedballs!! I was calling for him to go mid-season. I could not be more pleased with his replacement.
The number 1 rule of being a receiver is to RECEIVE the football. When the ball is thrown to you, you catch it. That's it. Then you get coached the rest.
My coach had a rule about catching the football. If you can touch it, you can catch it. If your hands get on it, even just a finger, you can catch that ball. (shout out to Danny Coale)
I have it in my mind that Coach Moorehead has very much the same thinking.
The offense is just putting on a good poker face. The offense isn't using the third and Logan card yet. Come out swinging with some designed runs by Logan, and then the receivers will get opportunities to get open that bud isn't allowing with a 4-2-5 scheme.
If ever there was time to Gif,surely this is that time.
Then we can send MORE HOKIES to the Giants!
I second that devotion!
I think it should be required that the first sound check should be BLASTING ENTER SANDMAN!!!!!
Without question. (with Bill Roth's "Touchdown Tech!" as a backup) ~8)
GO HOKIES!!
Must........ resist......... the downvote..............
I agree with this. College football is amateur but it's also the minor leagues for the NFL. If you're a kid who has real talent that can get to NFL level I can imagine it would be excruciatingly frustrating to be asked to switch around so many times. All you want to do is play the position you love and excel at it. The team's deficiencies in other areas are really not your fault. The coaches are at fault. Attrition, bad recruiting, players leaving early. Not things a player controls, so getting told to constantly switch for the team has got to be tough.
What I worry about more is that it affects recruitment of future top rated recruits. Unfortunately we do not pull the never-ending backlog of 5 and 4 star players like Bama. When we get a great recruit we need to promise to play him where he wants and keep that promise until either he realizes he isn't capable enough there or has better skills elsewhere.
I know Teller to OL makes sense and he will undoubtedly be a beast there. But he said so many times he wanted to play defense and only defense during his recruitment, that it really is concerning when he is asked to move so quickly. And before people say he moved on his own, let me say that if you played football or any organized sport at even high school level you know that your "own decision" comes with a huge amount of pressure to help the team and coaches. It's massive peer pressure.
I'm glad Marshall is back and still a Hokie. He should be DE behind Gayle though.
Except E.J. went to Bayside High in Virginia Beach.
Speaking of Bayside High,

Why don't we just play a NY Giants style defensive line with four defensive ends?
I think this article details the issues very well and I, as well, find it hard to believe we will beat Alabama. I think we can, but it will be extremely difficult and unexpected. That being said, in these scrimmages, Loeffler isn't going to throw the kitchen sink at the defense. The best thing we have going for us against Alabama is the element of surprise.
The one thing I find refreshing about this coaching staff is that I don't think they had this scrimmage to show off to the fans, if they wanted to do that I am sure they would have. I think they held this scrimmage to address some of the problem areas and get some film on it. Year in and year out I have seen scrimmages that have me scratching my head, and after years of that I have just decided to take it for what it is worth and wait until game time to see what the team is made of.
Today is the day! I'd love to see some pictures of the board up and running!
I'll be honest, I don't expect to #beatbama...but I don't expect to be #beatendownbybama either. The defense will hold their place and the offense will be shockingly anemic and we'll lose something like 24-3. Maybe we'll get lucky and lose 17-3 or may be the defense scores and it's only a one score game. But this summer's camp has just killed almost all hope that the offense has enough cohesion to put up points against Bama.
But......I expect this team will fade away for a few weeks and get better...week after week. We'll beat GT rather handedly (because of Bud) and actually get to the UNC game feeling pretty good about ourselves. I think this team can get better and better as the OL gels (they will be so much better w/out Newsome...) and Edmunds gets into a rhythm and some of these young receivers get more experience. We need to keep Coles healthy and our CB's healthy and this will be a good year.
But this summer's camp has been some cold water on the fire of Loeffler's offense. I think you illustrated the issues well.
i got a bad feeling on this one sarge
All I can say is that I'm glad he's staying. This team needs unity and this could have hurt moral. He's good enough to start at DE and will be a major contributor at DT (or DE) this year as he was last year. Next year he'll start at DE and who knows, with all the bad luck we've had with injuries, he could find his way into the starting rotation this year. Depth is critical right now (for DT). I like the kids with the "team first" mentality regardless of what position they've been recruited as. Step up and play where you're needed! Not only will this benefit the team, but they as individuals down the road.
"Only three" I'm sorry but that is too many sacks given up. If we give up 3 sacks to Bama we're done. The more pressure that is put on Logan, the worse he does, we saw that last year. I would say we can only give up 2 at the most and still have a chance to win.
Accidental downvote...I feel horrible
I don't see going home on Friday and returning on Sunday, missing a scrimmage, as a "misunderstanding." Sounds like he was annoyed at his depth chart position and was thinking of leaving, then decided he wasn't. Both make sense, I'd be annoyed with my playing time too, he's as good as JR Collins has been in his career but Collins can't play DT as well so Marshall gets less time. But, Marshall was smart to come back because he's a starter next year and likely will get a lot of time this year.

I'd really like to find out what time they are testing it so I can meander into the stadium and check it out
