better than the martin brothers hall and adibi?! haha its a good front 7 but god damn i loved those guys

and that is why i can not go. just cant afford that for a ticket and a trip down there. just have a kickoff weekend party at my house. closest i can get haha

I am expecting a good to great defense. I'm using the 2011 season as my basis for arguing a great defense in 2013 (essentially the same front 7, and now in 2013 some backfield depth). But you're absolutely right, the turnovers were not there in 2011 or 2012, as compared to years past. For the 2013 defense to be great, Gayle and Nicolas need to be absolute beasts. If they get to the QB, turnovers will happen. I don't know, I guess I just have this gut feeling that Gayle and Nicolas will be great this year.

Wow that's expensive... I wonder how many season-ticket holders just bought some to re-sell...

$300..

I was incorrect on my initial postas there are a few top sections in the corners that are $150+

I say good for him. I think that if Louisville has the talent and schedule to run the table for a MNC game appearance, then the addition of this young man will bring experience and leadership that will keep them focused and working hard. I like stories like this. Thanks for posting!

Dock everybody coming in 2 inches and 25 pounds. Example? If a RB that is committed reports to camp and he's listed at 6'1'' 220 on Rivals or 247 you can rest assured he'll be 5'11'' 195 pounds when he is measured and weighed at VT. Did someone put them in a drier? They all shrink.

That's kind of what I was thinking...it looks like I could sell mine on stubhub for over 300 a piece..

I don't know if anyone else has looked at the marketplace but our side is going for $3-600 and Bama is going for $500 and up.

True, I should have said that we'll really see stuff starting to happen in a big way on the offensive side of the ball in a year or two. It's going to take a while for Grimes to really get the line personnel that he needs for us to be consistently nasty at running the ball, and from that all good things flow. I do think it's good that we're not seeing the usual load of crap about, "Trust us folks, *this year* the offense is going to have it together." I had given up believing anything about the offense, especially the O-line.

Now, the Defense? Bud Foster's credit is always good with me. If Bud Foster tells me he's going to pull up to my house in an aircraft carrier packed full of supermodels at 8 AM tomorrow then I'm packing my swimsuit and clearing my fucking calendar because that shit will be on time, as promised.

One thing to add: we were 40 seconds away from Charlotte last year. There's no reason that it shouldn't be a reasonable goal this year.

Yeah, I agree, if last year's team had played this year's schedule we might have ended up 8-4. Fact: of the teams we're playing this year, we played 7 last year and went 4-3 against them.

Austin Peay is replaced by Western Carolina, and Bowling Green is replaced by Marshall, both of which are downgrades, if anything, so right there are our 6 wins.

3 teams we lost to last year are being replaced on this year's schedule. Clemson is being replaced by Maryland, which should be a W. Cincinatti is replaced by ECU, which should be a W. Pitt became a conference opponent, meaning that FSU is essentially replaced by Bama, which we can't quite count as a win (yet). So, there are 2 L's that would probably have been W's last year.

As for my expectations for this year:

Our defense lost us the game against UNC last year. That doesn't happen again this year, since our defense is essentially a year older and wiser. The Pitt game was an epic failure on all parts except punt returns, which I also think doesn't happen again this year. While I'm not exactly "expecting" a coastal title, I think it is a realistic goal. I am expecting a 10-win season, if not in the regular season then definitely in the bowl game, since any bowl we play in at 9-3 isn't likely to be against a top-tier opponent.

you're being completely unfair to Bud Foster and the defensive players.

Normally, I'd say yes, but our defense hasn't forced turnovers like it used to. Our defense hasn't even scored since 2010. I'm confident in Bud, but our defense needs to become a little more 'clutch' and make BIG plays at BIG times (see Exum against UVA, Roc against GT a few years back, etc.). Using boxing as an analogy, I feel like our defense can force a knock down, but not a knock out. If we want to beat Bama, UNC, Miami and GT (realistically at least two of which we need to beat to win 10 games), we need to get knock outs. We have to stop most 3rd downs, and all 4th downs. We have to prevent teams from making sustained drives. At the bare minimum we need to force field goals, not touchdowns.

10 wins and a coastal title is a perfect goal for this team/program, but I'm not sure it's a fair expectation this year.

With an OK offense and a good defense I expect 8-9 wins. With a fundamentally sound offense and a good defense I expect 9-10 wins. With a fundamentally sound offense and a great defense ('07 quality) I expect 10-11 wins. If our offense and defense both exceed expectations, I expect 11-12 wins.

There's just too much unknown right now, I do think that after #beatbama we'll know exactly how good our team is.

8-4 means that we lose literally all of our tough games this year (Bama, UNC, Miami, and GT). 8-4 should definitely be the minimum expectation.

Amen...DJ Coles is going to knock some LB/DB/Safety out....multiple times. Dude looks huge.

Also, as a fan base I still think we should keep high expectations; it only makes us better. I don't care about last year, I want them to want to play in Charlotte and beyond.

This so much of this. There is a lot of talent on this team. Talent want the issue last year in my opinion. Play calling and effort were much bigger issues. And honestly I get being "realistic" but why not expect the ceiling. Higher expectations are a great thing. And if you get disappointed by a game well that's part of being a real fan. I hate the fan that's always negative going into these big games or seasons. You will never avoid being disappointed at some point as a fan so why not enjoy it more and drink all that koolaid

Well, of course it's bigger in person. It's actual size!

I see what you're saying, but you're being completely unfair to Bud Foster and the defensive players. If that side was overhauled as well, then yes I agree we need to wait. But VT's current front 7 is the best since 2000. Any sort of offense that protects the ball will be sufficient. Also, don't forget that VT's QB was once projected to be the #1 draft pick in 2012 draft. It shouldn't be terribly difficult to get LT3 to elite levels. Enter Loeffler.

VT's biggest questions for 2013 will be getting cohesion on the O-line and finding playmaker's in the skilled positions. Enter Grimes, Coles and Edmunds.

I'm not saying they're going to #BeatBama, but an 8-4 record, (only 2 wins better than 2012 when FSU and Clemson were on the schedule) should be the absolute lowest of expectations. You should expect 9-10 wins and a coastal title.

I've never understood paying for a ticket to a game u weren't gonna remember because you were so drunk. Just doesn't make sense to me. But to each their own

Miami 2011 was the last time it got real bad for me. The end of that game was incredible. Could barely talk the next day

You can make the RFID short range, like the ones on credit cards and the ones you see on cards to get into office buildings. Just set up stands at the gate entrance to register. This could also greatly increase campus security.

I definitely remember living on campus freshman year and not being able to make calls on game days. Additionally, I still only get about 1/10th of my text messages to go through on game days and I have verizon, which I think has the best service in the area.
