Points system sounds good. For the comments about the larger fan base watching only football and basketball and not other sports. I would think that the attendance numbers at those sports are relatively small in comparison and so those who do attend volleyball, soccer, etc and get additional points should not cause too much issue with those only attending football and basketball.

Some other suggestions:
1) No lines when leaving. Hokie Pass can be like an electronic toll card. just walk through single file and it automatically records the point. Don't even need a gate. OR, EZ Pass swipe card that you just hold up to a scanner as you exit. Again no need for gate, just hold it over the area, wait for the nearly instantaneous beep and proceed.

2) Dedication points. There should be a total point tally available if you were to go to every possible sporting event and function that are point worthy, and top 1,000 students with highest point totals in the year receive some special reward and some bonus "Dedication" points.

3) Tiered Seating Rewards at Big Games. This is mainly, if not exclusively, for football games. If you have busted your ass since being a Freshman and have gone to every football game (or have high dedication points) then in Lottery conditions for big games you will automatically be rewarded with better seat location. The student section seating would be tiered into (for example) 5 zones. Zone A being best seat location at 50 yard line and so on.

those are my suggestions.

It was. Especially when some kids smuggled a keg in their tent and end up streaking around the tent town. Good times.

The way it worked my year was that any one person could have up to 30 athletic cards with them to get a block of seats. That way clubs, fraternities, and other groups could have their one representative get tickets for everyone.

As a post camp system Hokie, I kind of wish I got to experience the camping out thing at least once. Had to be a great sense of pride once you got the ticket in hand and it was probably an overall fun experience (maybe).

This never gets old, thanks for posting! I loved that site. It was really a precursor to the Key Play in a lot of ways. I think those guys just all grew up, had kids, got serious about work, all that suckass stuff we all eventually go through. Because towards the end you could tell they wanted to keep up with the Hokie Update each week, but the magic just wasn't there. But some of those updates in the 2004,2005,2006 time frame were legendary

Hell yea! Fine by me. Can we apply the tkp turkey legs system to alumni season tickets too? If so, I'm golden.

Well then I guess the Hokie Pokie won't include turning yourself around anymore.

I always camped out at War Memorial Gym because the lines were WAY shorter than at Cassell. I never missed a game.

As a former engineer it was hard to take time out to make it to other events. While not impossible, it would favor those who have a lot of free time. That being said, I still like that system more than what we have. Also, just an idea, to prevent ticket resell, the hokie passports have a barcode... Just make the passports the tickets. That way to get in they automatically check you ID and picture and students couldn't sell or use another person's passport. Then that further eliminates the need to print out tickets and save paper.

I was sick during the GT game, screamed as loud as I could, and I couldn't talk for the next week. Completely worth it.

I don't think it would be that big of a problem, just have multiple stations where students can scan their own. Concentrate them mostly at the exits close to the student sections and less at the exits further from the student section. If they haven't done so already, a future option would be to include RFID in the passport cards. Its not a terribly expensive technology. One number I looked at, put the low price at $0.15 per card. At that price it would be less than $4000 to get enough cards for the entire student body. The Faculty/Staff IDs at the college I work at use RFID for access to exterior and some interior doors. When I started we had to order the cards, but now we just have a blank ones on hand so they can be printed immediately.

I'm assuming that this type of system would have to be phased in over 4-5 years so you wouldn't have to immediately replace all 23,700 IDs at once and so Freshmen wouldn't start the first year with the same points as a Senior that has attended multiple games.

you mean A&M wants to be us, were actually the older school lol

Hell maybe we can just switch places, ya know show up to their games, nobody will notice the manziel became 6'6 250lbs and black right?

I like the concept but there are 2 main issues in my mind.

1) I don't really see the necessity in scanning on the way out. I highly doubt that people would be that big of a point whore that they would walk by and scan their ID just to get the point and if they do, more power to them, maybe they will get some exposure to other sports.

2) I think there could be a big percentage of the student body that are huge basketball and football fans but don't care for any other sports. I don't think they should be punished for not wanting to attend those other sporting events.

Obviously there is no perfect system. I liked having to camp out for tickets since you had to want to get them and because of that you rarely wanted to sell them. I get with our weak home schedule and other issues this probably isn't viable anymore, but maybe you give priority to people who wait in line/camp out and then run the lottery for the rest.
