Phillips whiffs and doesn't block either. He probably saw both defenders in the hole and couldn't commit so got no one. The right block was the first guy, who was on the right. He makes that blockand I agree JC might have broke it. Just goes to show how any play can turn on one little mistake.
Especially when his line helps win that award for the best RB or QB in VT history. Aim high.

When was the last time fans got this- excited over the offense line?
Yeah true. Ideally, Phillips would somewhat shield that unblocked player by landing the block he was supposed to, but obviously it's impossible to tell now. I really feel like if Phillips hits that defender and is able to drive him towards the other one, JC could have gotten a massive gain on that play since there doesn't seem to be anyone playing center field. But alas, our run blocking was beyond woeful last year. That reminds me, I can't remember a single play last season where we ran in right up the middle and gashed the defense for more than 15 yards. Here's to seeing a little more of that this season!!!
Do those adjustments to prevent blocks make it easier to get good returns? Yeah I want to see that nasty swarming defense again. You can't keep up that tempo though unless your offense can hold on to the ball and eat clock.
