As someone who wasn't a Hokie until I started at VT 3 years ago, I only know about this rivalry from you lovely folks. That said, I can't wait for it to start back up, just so I can experience it. Nothing beats a good hate-filled rivalry, especially when it's competitive, as Joe pointed out. I have no idea where our program will be in 8 years, but I know I'll be there in Morgantown to watch them kick ass
The excited part is in reference to winning the Black Diamond Trophy. The scared part is in reference to traveling to Morgantown.
For college football, I recommend going to an NC State game. I went when Tech played them in 2010 and had a great time. Nice stadium, but strange location with respect to campus.
To be biased, go to a Ravens game. I usually get to go to at least one a year and they're awesome and pretty rowdy. Definitely a good time.
2021 will be an interesting schedule with Michigan, WVU, and Richmond on the schedule. Who knows where any of those teams will be at that point.
We have a song, just nobody knows the words. Tech triumph and the vpi victory march are pretty much the only songs a new cadet hears their first week on campus.
I'd recommend a game at the Horseshoe if you can swing it. I have an ex-GF who was an OSU alum and got two tickets to a TBD home game through an alumni program each year. Our first game we went to was when Ohio State played USC a few years ago there. I love Lane, but man that was a crazy experience from the tailgating all the way through the game. When USC scored at the last second for the win, it was also funny watching 100k+ OSU fans collectively shit themselves in rage simultaneously! Lots of screaming at Tressel the rest of the night.
The next season we saw OSU destroy some sister's of the poor team. And they tailgated like they would never get to again for that game too.
I keep meaning to try to get over to Athens for a UGA game since it's less than an hour drive from my house. Haven't made it yet. Maybe this is the season.
I'm not interested in GT unless VT is the opponent.
But Clemson and USCe are also short day trips and I want to make runs to them one day.
Supposedly, Arkansas is cool place to see a game too.
He's even making money on that stuff??? Is this an NCAA violation?
BOOM!!!!!!!!

this is the real winner of this thread.
While I can understand that argument fully, and it's definitely in my top 2, the loss to Harrisonburg-team-that-will-not-be-named left me with a lingering pain in my gut for quite some time. At least against FSU we were the underdog, not the favorite by 5 touchdowns.
And that wasn't my gripe with the piece, I wouldn't have faulted them at all if they had actually even looked at a box score before writing the piece. The fact that we had the lead at the start of the 4th quarter means two things:
(1) We were not blown out
(2) We definitely had a good chance to win
which run counter to the main points in the article.
Haha! Find a good babysitter or use Grandparents like my sister does. They will just cost extra $$ anyways. ;-)

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS "It just made sense."
That was the sentiment of both WVU athletic director Oliver Luck and Virginia Tech football coach Frank Beamer upon announcing the renewal of a football series between the two schools, who will once again battle for the Black Diamond Trophy.
It's going to take some time for the two old rivals to meet again the first game will be played in Morgantown on Sept. 18, 2021 and the return game will be played in Blacksburg, Va., on Sept. 24, 2022 but both representatives are looking forward to renewing the series, which WVU leads 28-22-1.
"It's down the road a little bit, but it's the first time they could squeeze us into their schedule," said Luck, who played in the series four times, splitting those four meetings from 1978 through 1981. "But it becomes more important given the geography of the Big 12. Getting a school like Virginia Tech means a lot.""It's two great universities that have had some great competition," agreed Beamer, who's 12-7 against the Mountaineers. "We've always had great respect for them, and I think they feel the same way about us. Where we're located, it's the right thing to do. We'll take fans to Morgantown, and they'll bring fans to Blacksburg."
The schools played every year from 1973 through 2005, 13 of those meetings as Big East Conference foes from 1991 through 2003, but the series stopped after back-to-back Hokie wins in 2004 and 2005 as Virginia Tech joined the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Just watch, I'll be planning for that trip for the next decade and by time it arrives I'll have kids. The better want to go to Holland!!!
Only 59 days y'all!!!!
WE'VE BEEN INFILTRATED
I've been watching this for the past hour
+1 for Strongbad
yep...44-45....that's quite scary lol
I seem to recall there was one Bammer on that was very respectful and had some great insight...if I have time I'll find the thread and post.
In 2026 I'll be...also old. 44? Sounds right.
i concur, welcome fellas. i wish we had more fans of other schools coming around to chat, as long as they keep it respectful of course. i'm actually surprised no bammers have found their way onto the boards.

I remember Drakeford returning kicks while I was down there, and the talks of his sub 4.3.
Imagine what time he would have turned in if timed similar to the rest of the guys post-Vick...
